I agree. I still have the first gen... I didn't need to upgrade to the 3G when it came out, because I am on T-mobile, and I wouldn't get 3G speeds anyway... I don't see myself upgrading this year either... I am happy with my phone, and don't really see the point in buying a new one.

Apparently I'm already eligible for an upgrade despite having purchased the 3GS on launch day (at the subsidized price), so I will be unlocking the 3GS and selling it as soon as my new iPhone is clutched in my sweaty little fist.

Interesting fact:

This is in fact the second time that I've made this topic. The first time I made it, it was deleted for off-topic posting. I wish I could see the look on that mod's face right now.

Assuming they hit stores the same time as last year (early July), I'll get one ASAP.

I got the 3G on Day 2, just after my birthday, and I plan on grabbing the new one when my 2 year contract runs out, or when the new one is released (whichever comes later).

Looking forward to seeing what new things they can do with it.

Sticking with my 2g for another year (year 4!)

Just blew my cash on an ipad.

2g works perfectly on T-mobile. Love this beast.

I got a 3g on launch day, the contract expires 2 weeks after WWDC. Lines up nicely for me

I bet their face looks a little like this:

Not sure the point of your post as I'm sure you're not sure the point of my reply.

What I would love to see happen is that people understand their 24-month contract is a 24-month contract even if a new phone comes out every 12 months.

iphone too expensive.

shipping my 3gs to buymytronics.com

im buying a samsung impression.. cutting my phone bill in half

If the new iphone has upgraded hardware (new screen, camera, speakers, LED light for missed calls/new emails, etc..) I will consider upgrading. I don't think anything apple releases software wise will compete with my jailbroken 3G iphone so it's all about what new hardware is being upgraded on the phone. Then I will wait until it's jailbroken and would definitely buy for sure after that. But until then, my jailbroken 3G is PERFECT (for me).

Weren't you aware of the cost-of-ownership for having an iPhone before you bought it?

That being said, my friend has an impression

I guess it's fine for a feature phone, but going from an iPhone to a feature phone is quite the downgrade. Why don't you just buy an unlocked smartphone or something?

I just got my 3GS last December, so I will probably stick with that. I like it much better than the 3G it replaced.

OTOH, if there is some new feature I just can't live without, then I might use another family member's upgrade to get the new one. But I doubt that will happen. I honestly can't imagine a new feature that is on the horizon that would get me to upgrade - maybe a higher resolution display that is easier to read?

As long as its not a iPhone 3.5 as the 3GS was, I will buy it

3GS was not worth the upgrade.

I was in the same thought structure as you at first, but just found someone on CL who wanted to get trade his 32GB 3GS for a 16GB 3G (plus a little cash). I was more than willing to jump on that, and I've been loving it ever since:)

I will wait until the Dev Team has a tested, untethered jailbreak before I consider buying.

Exactly what I'm doing

1 hundo twenty.

Considering I originally purchased the 3G for $100 (net), I made out pretty nicely. Granted, I wasted a lot of time scouring the for sale section waiting to pounce on the perfect calling, so I should probably add opportunity cost to my factors:)

i understand and agree somewhat with the desire for better specs. BUT lets not forget the iphone is still by some margin the best phone you can buy at the moment.

the software and the speed of use is great and far superior to any other phone I have used. I recently upgraded to the 3GS ( I have been a user since day 1) and didnt think that it would be a big update but it was.

I would imagine that when my contract is up I will buy whichever iphone is out, not because I am a mad fanboy but because I still continue to believe that the iphone serves my needs (almost) perfectly and frankly a lack of oled, mutlicore processors etc will not change ^^

I'll be eligible for an upgrade right around the time the iPhone should be released. If it's not a worth it upgrade, I'll probably weigh my options and decide if I should even get another iPhone or move over to Android... heck, I may even wait until December and get a Windows Phone!

I have a 3G.

My 3G recently (yesterday) bricked itself and cannot be fixed. I bought a refurbished/unlocked BlackBerry (off contract) for the interim period, and right around the time that I'm eligible to upgrade (24 months into my Rogers contract) the new iPhone should be hitting shelves in Canada. Obviously I'll be upgrading at that point.
