If it were any other point in time rather than now, I might agree with that, but I think the stakes are a lot higher this time around. First it was the mobile industry evolving when Apple said so, but lately it's been evolving around them, and as stubborn as they sometimes seem in their ways, I think even Steve himself knows how important this upgrade is.

He wouldn't put himself out there and say the next will be an A+ update if it wasn't going to be one, especially knowing the rabid apple fan base will cling to that and hold him to it. Every company has "those moments" where they have to make a move and I think everybody in the mobile world knows this is one of those moments for em.

So I'll remain moderately optimistic, at the LEAST.

I've bought each of the three iPhones. However unless the fourth blows the 3GS out of the water, I'll be riding the pine this summer.

It's just getting annoying now, going to MacRumors and not seeing a new iPhone announcement. It needs to happen already. I'm really tired of ****ing waiting.

For all the people saying undecided, does that mean you're not sure if you'll get something else, or does that mean if it's not that great you'll just stick with the phone you have.

Curious to see people's thoughts.

I got my 3g in feb of last year. I'm hoping they let iPhone owners upgrade early like they did with 3gs(after all the complaints, of course). If they don't I won't upgrade till I'm eligable :(

It's called supply and demand. Something comes out, everyone wants it, and it costs more. Later, the demand lessens and the cost goes down. So, even though it happened once, doesn't mean it's not going to happen again. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

But... It hasn't happened for the past two years, why would you expect a price drop this year?

I've been quite happy with my 3Gs so far. It does great at many things, ok at few things and appalling at few things (like the cam). I thought I could live with iPhone's cam, but after using this thing for quite some time, I see that after the first few weeks I just don't take any pics with it, because I know the results will just be poor.

So next phone probably won't be 4gen iPhone. I can't see Apple releasing a phone with decent cam with xenon or atleast led flash. So probably switching to OS that gives you more choice in HW, more customizable UI and is more open. So a race between android or MeeGo.

I'm hoping to upgrade to the new iPhone in a few months time as long as it's a worthwhile update. Now my contract is up on my 3G I'm on a cheap 30 day tariff and upgrading will mean either signing up for a more expensive contract or buying the new iPhone outright and carrying on with my 30 day tariff.

Either way it's going to be expensive and I am expecting a decent update to the iPhone from Apple this time but if it does turn out to be uninspiring I'll probably stick with what I've got for another 12 months.

I'll be selling my 3GS and buying a (64GB??) iPhone if there is. As long as I'll buy the one with more capacity.

I'll likely upgrade as I'm eligible. Unlike some, I actually lived through my contract instead to bitching about the audacity of AT&T when they expected people to actually live out most of their contract.

I'd like more space and a little more speed/memory. I'm very ok with the form factor.

If we get all the changes we half expected with the 3GS I'll upgrade but if it's as disappointing and unimaginative as the iPad I'll either get a 3GS and jailbreak it or just move onto an actual multimedia platform capable of multitasking and has flash(Andriod, HTC, etc) so I dont have to carry my Camera and Satnav with me wherever I go.

I'll be upgrading to whatever iphone comes out this year. I'm ready to upgrade from my 3g.

So, what will your plan of action be if a new model comes out this summer?

Nothing, I just got the 3GS (my first iPhone) in June, and the only reason I got it was because I got $100 discount. Since I got my first cell phone in 1997 I've only owned 6. I have no need to update every year.

I plan on buying it :D

im going to use my moms or dads upgrade since they are off contract to get my new iPhone

its not new but you guys should do this

if you have a line due for an upgrade or not on contract, use their upgrade

(my parents dont care about what phones they get and since i pay the bill, i just go buy them a cheap unlocked phone)

Still have my original iPhone

I'm hoping that the newest iPhone has significant upgrades. I still have my first one since I don't think the last two revisions were really that much different. Now having a forward facing cam, or obviously something else big, would definitely get me to finally upgrade. I think mine is def getting close to looking beat up and operating like the millennium falcon. A good whack and it's working again.

I might sell my 3GS, doubtful cos its been pretty reliable, hardy and i cant particularly fault it to be honest. It does everything i need it to do. HOWEVER. If apple come out with an absolute cracker, then i might sell up n move onto the next model. But i am saving up money for other electronic goods so who knows :)

When they release the new iPhone I will most likely go out and buy it. I will NOT do any complaining, or complaining about the complainers (because they're 2x as annoying)

;)

I held out on getting the 3GS so that I could get the one coming out this summer.

Ditto. I skipped the 3GS update because it didn't offer me much to upgrade from my 3G. So, with the new phone, it'll be a substantial upgrade by comparison.

Usually skip one generation. My 3G has served me well, but I'm ready for a faster and more powerful experience.

Buy an Android device.

Look at your signature. What trolling. Give me a break. Well now that you started. I will finish:D

Im sorry but I wont buy an android device because:

1) the music player looks worse than the Zune (bare minimum). Apple's is far superior.

2) 98% are sub standard quality cash ins, capitaliisng on the whole touchscreen craze. With the exception of the droid and nexus one. And even those have there design flaws (worthless keyboard on the droid, and personally I find the nexus hideous looking.

I'm not trolling.

The question asked was if you have an iPhone, what are you going to do if a new one comes out this year?

Since I currently have an iPhone, the question applies to me. And I will be buying an Android device later on, even if a new iPhone comes out. I answered the question, you just didn't like the answer. The only one who is trolling is you.
