Is this a joke? Would it be better on your 4s?

----------

I think people need to simmer down a little. It takes time to get these things done. I'm impressed with how quickly my apps are being updated!

Why would that be a joke ? Seriously for now yes apps look better on my 4S than the my 5 because the black bars are non existent

Developer gets an iPhone 5 -----> Start fixing the app in question (1-10 Days coding work) -----> Submit and wait for approval (10-14 days standard wait, but it is probably more like 14 - 20 days right now).
Sounds fair enough, but how have some devs got an update out within a few days of the release of iP5? Temple Run update, for example, was released on 19 September with iP5 screen support.

They took the risk to submit to Apple without first testing it on the actual device, which really isn't a great idea but some people take that risk.

Also, FYI to everyone, it only took 11 days for Apple approval, far less than I anticipated. Hopefully you all will start seeing more updates in the next week.

Tapatalk Just got updated for the iphone 5!! One less app with black bars!! :)

Yup. I've had about 5 more recently. This leaves only games among apps I regularly use that haven't been updated and that I care about.

Glad to see Apple released an update for the
Apple Store app, can't believe it's taken them two weeks to update their own app for the iPhone 5, pathetic.

The black bars on my white phone don't bother me at all but it will be nice once most apps are eventually updated.

This is why I didn't get the white iPhone. The black bars show up horrendously on it.

Also you have 125 apps? How the heck do you navigate through all them. First think about deleting more than half of that crap.

I got the white iPhone 5--the black bars certainly don't 'show up horrendously', LOL...the embellishment 'round these parts is hilarious.

But then again...we are obviously not on the same page...or same book for that matter;). I've got 324 apps, organized on 3 pages in folders. It's an exceptional way to 'organize' your apps...have you not tried folders yet? They work well! Do I use all of those apps? Nah---but between my different hobbies and my job...my son and his games---my insatiable appetite for photography and video gathering/editing...I love having the ability to choose. Most apps drop to 99 cents once in a while...and I typically take advantage of the sales when they do.

It seems that this is the iPhone equivalent of "fragmentation".

I have the same concern. Several of my favorites do suffer that same fate that you speak of. Plus in lieu of an incentive to address the problem, developers won't.

Apples dominant ecosystem is beginning to fail. Breaking apart over the very problem Apple claims to have been the reason why they stubbornly clung to the diminutive 3.5" size for all these years. The problem of inconveniencing the developers to adjust to changes.

LOL---Truly, LOL!!! I love BOTH OS'es...Android and iOS. I have a Galaxy Note and Nexus--and have owned the Xoom and a Nexus phone...as well as each iteration of the iPhone. Our business mandates the use of the GNote for contract signing, photo and video sharing---and taking 'credit cards' at events. It's absolutely perfect for that---BUT...BUT...speaking of fragmentation brother...WoW! The 'Go Store' is just. plain. awful!!!

Yes...there are apps, plenty of good ones too. Many of the day to day Evernotes of the world, Dropbox and Angry Birds are there---BUT, trying to find deeper apps for music production, photography and video manipulation, fun-new-interesting games, et al is an act of futility. For the fun of it...playing with my Note over the weekend...I actually went through the Top 500 Paid, Free, and Grossing apps. Of the top 10 'Paid' apps in the Play Store, 5 are Launchers and Tool Box/ROM manager/Root Explorers. 2 are Widget managers...and only THREE are compatible with Tablets!!! Lol...THIS my friend is fragmentation! As much as I dig this little Nexus 7---I've found maybe a half dozen apps for it! It's ludicrous---as well, more than half the time, my Note qualifies as a tablet and hence can't use the 'phone' apps---even though it shares the same resolution as many of the newer 4.5/4.8" phones.

I take it you've not spent much time in the 'Play' Store. It's miserable. Through the 'Top 500' apps in each section...there is hardly anything of interest past #25. Knock-offs, security apps (for viruses), task killer, memory managers...tons and tons and tons of CRAP no one needs or wants.

Again---I dig Android---I use Android everyday, BUT, when it comes to Eco Systems...nothing, and I repeat none of the manufacturers, carriers, or 'other' OS'es have even a smidgeon of the capability, functionality, and availability of compelling apps---for all walks of life---as iOS and the AppStore.

This is a speed bump. I've got the white iPhone 5. I don't notice the black bars at all---it doesn't bug me in the least bit...especially, considering every day I come home to another half dozen 'updates'! They're working on it. The developers, Apple's App store folk putting their stamp of approval on it....it's being worked on...and in a couple of months, most--if not all of the essential apps will be updated. The 'Big' companies are working on it..>I've got a very good friend that programs for EA. However, as mentioned earlier...it's not as easy a transition as doubling pixels. For intensive graphic games...much code must be manipulated. As well---look for new games coming out that'll take advantage of the new hardware

Madden hasn't been updated to '13' yet--That's the one I'm looking for in 16:9!

Sorry to be so long winded...but it cracks me up to see anyone comparing 'app' stores. Apple and the developers working with iOS are so far and above the Play store or Windows app store, it's ridiculous. Again---with the caveat; we're talking about compelling software. Not just crap apps.

Edit for addition--
iOS developers make REAL money with their application, True, Real, Mortgage paying cash! That's not so much the case in other 'app' stores...hopefully this changes as we move forward. Obviously, competition is good for ALL of us...but to date, it DOES seem that REAL app developers are currently developing for iOS first.

I can't imagine after 5 years of similar resolution (even the pixel doubling for retina), that the developers weren't anticipating this...especially after all the commotion and desire to have a 'bigger' screen. They knew it was coming...maybe not the specifics, but the iOS base continues to grow, iOS users continue to spend real money on software....and they can't make enough phones to keep up with the demand.

Tell me...WHY would this lead to fragmentation for Apple? Those developers are frothing at the mouth right now to sell their app to just 10% of those new iPhone 5 buyers....even in the first weekend, that would amount to 500,000 sales (5 million sold)! Even at 99 cents...that's a take home check of $350k!

Don't worry---everyone should just hang tight. It's going to take some time. We ALL knew this from the keynote...and one can't disagree...an app that HAS been updated to take advantage of all 4 inches looks very, VERY nice:)

Apple didn't exactly set a sterling example when it couldn't be arsed to update it's own Poker app to retina.

Nor did it get out it's own updates in timely fashion when the retina update happened. Remote took months.
