as someone who has experienced the data throttle, att unlimited is worthless. the data does not slow down, it stops. speeds like .02 on speedtest, 5 mins to download email, webpages that won't even load.

i used to say i would stay as long as i had unlimited, but in reality they have already taken it away so i am paying my etf and heading to verizon for LTE. i would rather pay for extra data than need my phone and not be able to use it at all.

I've had no trouble with ATT after many years of service. I see no reason to move. I'll preorder the new iPhone and stay w/ ATT.

They will do what they been doing for years.
Tell you that you got 12 months left on your contract with them and an ETF of $230 remaining. What you decide to do is up to you but your high sense of entitlement tells a lot about your character...

Oh give me a break. I have no loyalty to either carrier. Its just a bad business decision. Maybe if AT&T's service wasn't so terrible here in NYC it would be worht it for me to stay, but the current situation, as it applies to me, means I will be leaving.

You seriously don't think its a bad business decision for every AT&T customer with a 4s to have it cheaper to pay the ETF and buy the phone at verizon than to buy it straight from AT&T?

You dont have to be loyal to honor your signature and the contract you agreed upon. Its call integrity.
Instead you expect them to not follow the rules that you both agreed to and keep giving you freebies?

Its not a bad business decision cause those headsets are expensive and cost lots of money to carriers. So you pay over $200 to get out of your contract and another $200 plus tax to get the next iphone on another provider so you're not really saving anything when switching instead of taking the available early upgrade if you think about it.
But if the service is better then that's a valid reason. But not to act entitled and like a baby because AT&T is not giving you a full upgrade any more.

Who's not honoring their contract? I'm buying it out.

My ETF per line is $215 and the phone is $199. If I stay at AT&T it's a total of $449 per phone with the $250 charge (in my case $898 total). If I pay the ETF and switch its $414 per phone (in my case $828 total). That's a $70 difference, or approximately 18% of the subsidized price of the phone. Why would I effectively pay that difference to AT&T, especially considering their terribad service?

You are buying it out but for some reason you feel entitled to a new iphone upgrade every year still.
You're also forgetting the prorated charges on the new acccount and whatever charges remain on the last month from AT&T and the verizon $36 per phone activation fee. So in reality you're not really saving $70 but spending more.

I got the dreaded text from AT&T today saying I exceeded 3 gigs this month and they will be throttling me next month if I keep this up. This is the first time I've used 3 gigs in my 4 years on their "unlimited" plan. What's the point of paying extra for bandwidth that isn't really there for you to use when you need it?

On top of that, there are too many low signal areas in SF and Oakland. You'd think they would nail down coverage in Apple's backyard, but no... I find more consistent signal in every city I travel to except the one I live in.

The new iPhone can't come soon enough.

How much data do you think I will use on LTE if I use around 3gb on ATT 3g?

I heard that they would increase the throttle limit to 5GB, still any truth to that? I've been wanting to jump ship a while, only thing holding me back is Unlimited but I never even hit the limit, so what's the point...

I'm keeping AT&T because I have perfect signal, and Verizon is pretty much nonexistent here.

If I had the option, I probably would jump ship to Verizon. Most people I know are pleased with their service, and I'm not exactly pleased with AT&T.

I'm staying with AT&T. With LTE we have 5GB to play with before we get throttled. Plus I get a bigger discount on my bill with AT&T. I only pay 74 and some change a month. No way I get that price or anything cheaper with Verizon

How do we know this? I keep hearing people talk about it but NO ONE seems to actually be posting their data history or pointing to any kind of press release. I honestly don't trust reps at company owned stores because they don't know anything more then the public half the time when it comes to policy. Can anyone post any hard proof that it's 5Gig on LTE now instead of 3Gig before being slowed? Has anyone been throttled? Is it more useable? 200 to 300kbits would be much more useable past that limit instead of like 20kbps.

staying with ATT, talk and use my unlimited data at the same time is huge to me

plus I have a 27% percent discount on my ATT bill

Have you even looked at the Verizon single line plans?

http://www.verizonwireless.com/b2c/explore/?page=choosing-a-plan

They only have shared plans, so if you used to have a single line on AT&T and want to have a single line on Verizon, you'll be paying $100+

This is the deciding factor on me not switching from AT&T to Verizon.... I don't care about unlimited data anymore, as other have said... it's throttled and completely worthless.

I get 23% discount through AT&T, and the Wife and I are both grandfathered into unlimited data. For both of us the bill comes to roughly ~$120 after taxes and fees for minimum amount of minutes and unlimited text/data. $60 a line isn't too shabby.

At verizon it's currently $130 +taxes/fees for their new "share" plan for both of us to share 1GB:confused: of data... So as much as I would love to hop over to verizon, it's just not feasible.

Realistically we both use anywhere from 4-6gb per month, so verizon is out of the question at nearly ~$200 a month

I voted stay with AT&T, but not just for unlimited data, although that is certainly a factor. I have great coverage, LTE in my home location, and the customer service has always been great for me. For example, I called today for an unlock on daughter's iphone 4 (because apparently I keyed the IMEI number wrong on the website) and within 5 minutes, it was unlocked. The person was helpful, efficient and very pleasant.

When I had Verizon service for my home line and for internet, every damn phone call was an exercise in frustration. I dumped them for both and have never looked back.

After doing a load of research, I decided to stick with AT&T for now, but buy this coming iPhone at full price and just finish out the year I have left on contract. After that I'll decide on either staying, or moving to T-Mobile (or maybe even Verizon if the unlock supports CDMA this time around). I'm grandfathered in from the 3GS days, but I might end up sacrificing unlimited data for 4GB + tethering anyway. I don't use all that much data in a month, plus can (hopefully) use the Onavo app to compress any data I do use, either way.

Aside from Verizon's (much better) upload speeds, it's basically neck-and-neck with AT&T's price, coverage, and speeds where I am in the New York area. I ultimately don't have enough incentive to jump ship.

Jumping ship. The unlimited plan means nothing anymore as feature keep being disabled or made useless with the throttling. So it really has no value to me. Plus for a comparble plan with Verizon Ill actually save money per month with my discount.

It's 5gb on LTE unlimited data. When you get an LTE phone, they move you to the LTE Unlimited plan. No throttling until after 5gb.

Good to know. I would switch to Sprint since they have unlimited LTE without throttling, but there's no real estimated date as to when LTE will be available here in Las Vegas. And I get a 23% discount through my company with AT&T. I can live with 5GB before throttling over not having LTE at all.

Pretty much same here. I have a 28% discount for either carrier, but 5gb is enough to keep me happy for now I think. Especially with the price difference between unlimited and the new plan. Most of the data I use currently anyway is jailbroken tethered to other devices. I don't plan on tethering my iPhone 5 anytime soon anyway.

I voted Other. There is no AT&T LTE in my area yet, AT&T needs to be able to give me an accurate, specific date of when I will get LTE. If they are unable to do that, I will be getting Verizon.

If they do have a date for me, and it's within 3-6 months, and I can keep my unlimited data, I will probably stay with AT&T.

My 4S speeds keep up with VZW well so no need for me to switch.

Why are you such a corporate apologist? I feel entitled to an upgrade because they have been giving me one, every year, for the past 5 years. The time has now come that they are not going to give me one. Shouldn't I include that in my decision making process? Or should I continue at AT&T because of how much they love me?

AT&T's service is bad here in New York. In the past, I have stayed because the cost of leaving was WAY higher than the cost of staying every time a new phone came out. Now it isn't. So bye, AT&T. What kind of person in my situation would make a different decision? A sucker maybe. AT&T doesn't make their business decisions with my best interests in mind. Why should I make my decisions with their best interests in mind?
