I'll always carry my ID and a credit card regardless if necessary or not. Anything can happen to your phone including it getting stolen or left behind. I put my boarding passes on my device but also print out the boarding pass. I was in a huge TSA line and a couple in front of me had one of there boarding passes not accepted on the scanning device for whatever reason. They tried 4 or 5 times and finally the agent said his wife could go on but he had to go back to the ticket counter or self service boarding terminal at the counter and print out a pass. I never want to be that person.. Technology is a wonderful thing but I like to have a backup when it fails..

We’ll have it in the USA real soon, but just drivers license for now.

Georgia (where I live) and Arizona will be the first with a digital license on the phones. TSA has to accept it too!
Arizona's motor vehicle website states you have to carry your driver license regardless if you have the digital ID. It's not accepted everywhere and not all police departments have the capability yet.

Has it started already? Let me check Georgia’s site.
So I’d still have to carry it maybe, but TSA would have to accept my iPhone digital version I’m guessing.

And this is the digital drivers license for Arizona?

Yes, it's already available in Arizona. Unfortunately I can't get one as I grew a massive beard and the pic on my actual license is me clean shaven so I either have to go have a new picture taken or shave. The process for the digital license includes taking a picture of yourself which is sent to the dmv to identify you along with other info. It fails the setup and when I called they said beard has to go or I need to get a new license with the beard..

If you ditch the physical cards completely, you won’t have a fun time going out for dinner. Only few restaurants allow Apple Pay or any type of electronic payment. Still relying on handing over physical cards to the waiter.

Visiting Lowes could also be a disappointment at the checkout counter
Seriously? Doesn’t everywhere accept contactless and therefore Apple Pay? They certainly do in the UK

I'm actually with you on this one. I'm a stickler about getting paper tickets whenever I take a flight. More than once on Southwest their system has gone down at a layover and people that didn't have paper tickets had to get in a long line to get one. Meanwhile I just breezed on through.

I thought about downsizing to a MagSafe Wallet. Most states in the USA still require you to carry a physical driver's license and I think having one physical card would be a good idea if you go somewhere that doesn't accept Apple Pay. I've been to stores that did but their system was malfunctioning so it didn't work. Having a physical card meant I didn't have to walk away without my items.

Not even close. It's way better than it used to be in the USA but still many holdouts.
I think this is a shock for many people outside the USA. In many countries electronic payment has been going on for years but for some reason the USA is slow to adopt it. I visited China years ago and no one paid cash for anything. I thought I was in some weird future movie LOL

I've been to many places that have the ability to use it but for some reason they don't implement it. I've also been to stores where the cashier says they don't have it but when you put your phone near the terminal it comes up. Pretty funny when it works and they say they didn't even know they had the ability to use it.

For some reason people in the USA are resistant to tech when it comes to this. A good example is here we have a hamburger place called Whataburger. Every time you go through the drive though they say "Welcome to Whataburger are you using the app?". The problem is when you get to the window and try to use the app they act all confused like they didn't know they had an app and those were just meaningless words they memorized LOL.

Here at some gas stations you can pay at the pump with Apple Pay. This eliminates card skimmers so you would think it would catch on but nope.

First time I went to Europe I was so pleased at how many places I could use Apple Pay at. I even used it at the water closet at train stations in Amsterdam while other people were fumbling for coins in their pockets.

This has happened to me many times. I finally just started saying "Can we just try it?" and it works.

Tons of Whataburgers where I'm at (Phoenix)! I haven't been to a fast food place in years so I have no experience with their apps. I usually get gas at Costco or Fry's so not sure if they'll accept Apple Pay but I'll give it a try!

I have often been leaving the house lately with just my iPhone, as it has my c/card, and a few loyalty cards in the Wallet app.

Officially you're meant to carry your driver's license when driving, but in reality if you are pulled over by the police, at least in this state (VIC, AU) you are given a period of grace (24 hrs?) to present your license to a police station, so I was thinking it wasn't a huge issue.

Then I thought the other day... what if I'm due for my 1:15 year fender-bender? How dodgy does it look when you say to the other person - sorry, don't have my license... I'm totally trustworthy though, didn't steal the car! So - I've been carrying it again.

I'm sure in the future even the driver's license will go digital... or more likely eventually biometric.

I’m so surprised that banking in general is still so backwards in the USA. I’ve adopted the wallet less life since  pay was launched in the U.K. and although on the first year a few handful of places didn’t support it but since the advent of contactless rollouts and  Pay support updates on all the card units across Europe I not only never carry cards in the U.K. but also when I’m travelling anywhere in Europe.

My major problem with that is how it's treated. We all know how people treat their phones. My wife is no exception. Where are you if everything is on the phone but you don't have it?

At least my wife takes her ID and everything in her wallet seriously.

Wouldn’t she take the phone seriously as well if everything’s on it?!

I wish Apple Pay was more prevalent/common here. I use it every opportunity I have, but it's still a very small percentage of my overall purchases/transactions.

I think we have a different system here in Europe where if there is a contactless terminal, it’s compatible with Apple Pay. I know it’s more of a challenge these days to find somewhere that doesn’t have card payments than somewhere that does.

Exactly! Including my local chicken shop! And random street side food stalls as well.

She sits on her phone. I've seen it slid off things and she didn't pick it up until she was ready to use it again.

There have been mornings where there was a hunt for her phone because she forgot where she left it. Just last night she had our son go get her phone because she left it in the car when she got home.

It's an over $1000 device and there are times she has no idea where it is. Periodically, I have to call her phone so we can go through the house listening for a ring so she can find it. It's particularly annoying when she's got it on silent.

And this is that she's better with it now than she was in the past.

To be fair, the same can be said about her keys, her glasses and her…wallet - which has her ID.

Perhaps she might treat it more seriously - but I cannot say there won't be a day when she's trying to get out the door and she can't find her phone.

I sometimes get a little independent corner shop that will ask for cash unless it’s over £5 but that’s rare these days. Everything from takeaways to self serve checkouts and

My wife sometimes does weddings fairs with her small part time business and even she has a contactless terminal linked to her phone that accepts Apple Pay lol.
