She sits on her phone. I've seen it slid off things and she didn't pick it up until she was ready to use it again.

There have been mornings where there was a hunt for her phone because she forgot where she left it. Just last night she had our son go get her phone because she left it in the car when she got home.

It's an over $1000 device and there are times she has no idea where it is. Periodically, I have to call her phone so we can go through the house listening for a ring so she can find it. It's particularly annoying when she's got it on silent.

And this is that she's better with it now than she was in the past.

To be fair, the same can be said about her keys, her glasses and her…wallet - which has her ID.

Perhaps she might treat it more seriously - but I cannot say there won't be a day when she's trying to get out the door and she can't find her phone.

For all you know she’s purposefully forgetting to let you find it for her.

I smell a hidden agenda here.

I sometimes get a little independent corner shop that will ask for cash unless it’s over £5 but that’s rare these days. Everything from takeaways to self serve checkouts and

My wife sometimes does weddings fairs with her small part time business and even she has a contactless terminal linked to her phone that accepts Apple Pay lol.

Mate, I’ve had experience with homeless people carrying contactless readers for some donations. I was like damn!

Well…she's only hurting herself. LOL.

This morning she left without her work tote. I asked her going out the door, "Do you need to take that?" She said no.

Shortly before clocking in for work I get a call. "Can you get my folder out of that tote, take a picture of today's work schedule and send it to me?"

I mean…I only asked her if she needed the tote…!!!!!

I’m telling you, there’s a deeper conspiracy here. You need a private detective

I would love to be able to just carry my phone with me without the need for a wallet. I only have two cards with me at all times (driver's license and debit card). All the other cards are left in my car (Shell Gas Station Fuel Rewards card, library card, and Barnes & Noble membership card). Since I don't need too many cards, my wallet is the Ezra Arthur No. 2 Leather Card Case. However, a lot of places around where I work don't support Apple Pay yet, so I have to have a physical debit card with me.

My major problem with that is how it's treated. We all know how people treat their phones. My wife is no exception. Where are you if everything is on the phone but you don't have it?

At least my wife takes her ID and everything in her wallet seriously.

This is so true! It shocks me how people treat their phones, leaving them all over the place, not setting up security to get into them or setting up poor passwords. I literally saw a colleague yesterday entering her Passcode (she was showing me something on her phone) and I nearly fainted when I saw the first three digits before looking away (you know that initial “oh crap, I shouldn’t be seeing this” moment) and this was a PA for an executive

Completely get you and I think this becomes a broader conversation around how seriously people need to take their phones in this day and age before putting something like ID, Medical card, bank card etc… on it.

I think there is not enough care taken around what a smartphone is these days, a lot of folks treat these things like they are still what they were back in the year 2000.

Exactly! Including my local chicken shop! And random street side food stalls as well.
Actually small shops were where I had the best luck using Apple Pay in the USA when it wasn't as prevalent. It's the big chains such as WalMart that won't support it that frustrate things.

On some restaurants where they know us, they let us pay cash for 10% discount, instead of paying for the tax. Same for 2 auto repairs.

Seeing this in a pet store yesterday made me smile!

Another UK user here. Ditched my wallet years ago. I don’t know of a single place that doesn’t accept contactless, so I use Apple Pay on my iPhone / Apple Watch daily.

No need to carry ID on me so I keep that at home.

I have my Tesco Clubcard in the wallet app.

I haven’t paid with cash in over a year, but on the odd occasion I need cash, I can draw out cash from any NatWest / RBS / Tesco ATM using the NatWest banking app.

I would like to leave the house with just my iPhone, and use the Apple Wallet to make purchases, and maybe keep photographs on the phone of my car insurance, health card, and maybe just take my driver's license with me. I do not think a photograph will work just yet for my California ID. Wondering if anyone has done this, and what your thoughts are on ditching your physical wallet.

Thanks

Once Hyundai enables their support for Apple CarKey, and my state finally joins the digital ID crowd, I’ll be ditching. Everything except a small wallet with 1 debit card linked to an emergency bank account, 1 emergency credit card, my backup key card for my vehicle, and my health insurance card because apparently hospitals can’t verify information with GroupID and other identifying information, they still need to scan an easily duplicated plastic card with the same info.

Aka I’m for it, or at least for trying it out and getting rid of my current, bulkier wallet.

I bought a MagSafe wallet to attach to my 13 since I usually only carry my primary CC, drivers license and health insurance card. Plus, I have my debit and credit card added to Apple Pay. The only time I do bring my actual wallet with me is when I travel.

Though it will be nice when I'll eventually just need my iPhone -- no MagSafe wallet or actual wallet needed.

Nope, not until I have something that can hold a decent amount of cash, two cards, a key, and still allow some form of wireless charging (likely never).

I did manage to ditch carrying a keyring as a separate item, so I'm down to phone and wallet.

Haven’t carried a regular wallet in years, used an iPhone case with cardholder previously and now have just the MagSafe wallet with two credit cards and my drivers license. I have checking at three banks with cardless ATM so can get cash if I had to in almost any city.

If you ditch the physical cards completely, you won’t have a fun time going out for dinner. Only few restaurants allow Apple Pay or any type of electronic payment. Still relying on handing over physical cards to the waiter.

Visiting Lowes could also be a disappointment at the checkout counter
Here in Canada literally doesn't exist a single place without card payments, and all card payments are compatible with Apple Pay.
Last time I used a card was 2 years ago, last time I used cash was 4 years ago.

I need to carry more cards and stuff for work and whatnot that can typically fit in a wallet phone case, so I still carry a traditional wallet. The wallet almost never has physical cash in it, though.

The same question should be heavily thought in rebuttal.

Why is anyone carrying their ID with them wherever they go? Hopefully not the SSC as that isn’t needed until for employment or for taxes or the bank right? They major worry is loosing the physical cards and having to spend along with excruciating inconvenience and time to get them all reprocessed and replaced.

In many European countries (and elsewhere), you are legally obliged to have an ID with you anywhere you go. I'd be the first one to leave it at home (and carry a digital version if possible) but I can't for legal reasons and I've already been ID'd by the police at random in the street on a few occasions.

I would love to ditch my wallet. Unfortunately, many places still only take physical cards.

I made the decision to ditch the same leather wallet I had for 18 years and went straight Apple Pay with no cash and just keep my medical card and license under my case hoping to incorporate them into my wallet app as soon as possible

My only gripe is with petrol stations. How do you deal with those?

I've almost done that, but have been caught out a couple of times when contactless services like Apple Pay have failed. Some banks also have a limit on the number of times and/or cash limit you can use contactless in a day but generally don't tell you until you phone them up to find out why your card has just been declined!

If I'm going anywhere which isn't really close to the house I'll always take a card with me just in case.

I just ordered a case for an incoming Pixel 6, it has one of those little card-storage compartments on the back, with a sliding hatch...enough for ID and a backup CC in addition to the phone pay. Will see how that goes, it'll be pretty thick but I'm hoping the convenience outweighs the ugliness! I also have an inbound magsafe card holder for my 12 but I'm a bit less enthralled with that option.
