I've got a $6 necklace from Hot Topic...it's like, you know the chain on fans? like one of those but with bigger spheres... anyhow, I've been wearing it for something like 6 years now. The shiny plated exterior is worn away to reveal the cheap gray metal underneath it's all silver metal, probably tin, and it's quite rusted in between the balls where it doesn't touch my neck, so the rust stays on. It stains white shirts too...

I've had it for 6 years. I've taken it 130' deep and 3200' from the entrance in a cave system, and to other countries. I only take it off when I feel nauseous cause I don't like things touching my throat when i feel sick. It used to be somewhat tight, but I lost some weight so I can pull it out and fit three fingers between it and my neck now... my girlfriend tells me not to stop wearing it, cause I'll look odd to her with out it. Same thing with my goatee, she's never seen me without it so she doesn't want me to get rid of it, and I've had the necklace for 2 years more than the goatee :D

You like it?

Why not....doesn't harm anyone!

One of my best friends wears a gold chain with some type of hindu symbol on it, comes off good. A few others wear a cross(as does my father)

Really, it about what you like

Ever since I heard someone refer to a single gold necklace on a man as a "Mr T starter set" a necklace like OP describes just makes me giggle ... ;)

For what it's worth (not much apparently with everyone here being majorly against it) my friend told me she liked my gold chain. But I agree with whoever said do what you like. If it means something to you, all the better, but if your just doing it to impress a girl, well stay away...thats "naff" :p. (did i use that correctly??).

And also, what's wrong with the pinky rings? I love wearing rings!

I wear a silver cross my mom bought me on my birthday, and a wooden cross that I got when I was confirmed.

I'm 16.

Really? Well I certainly don't want to reduce my chances of hooking up with Bonnie Hunt. :(

You know what I mean. And they were in Italy. Hot chicks abound over there...

...and this is going back to when she was the Cool & Funny Bonnie Hunt, not the Passé Post-Menopausal Housemarm Bonnie Hunt.

Was there ever a pre-menopausal Bonnie Hunt? I figured she hit her stride coming out of the birth canal, and she has been bitter ever since that little adventure.

Yah dude, you should probably get a pooka shell one. All the cool dudes have them.

"Dude, look how chilled I am. I'm wearing shells. I'm obviously chilled and relaxed. See the shells? See them? **** yeah."

Very rarely do I see a guy with a necklace on and think it looks good. Usually it comes across (to me) completely tacky.
Hemp is a different story. I don't mind that so much as it is hardly blingy.
Wear what you like though, this is just my opinion. :)

Thank you! This was the whole gist of my aforementioned BH quote.. Just to clarify. Anyhoo.

First it's the chain, next it's the pinky ring and then before you know it, you're either wearing an Armani and putting out a hit on a guy or wearing polyester and trying to impress women with the expensive used car it's otherwise your job to sell.

The dude in a polyester track suit is the image I got.

My personal opinion is that younger men should stay away from any type of jewelry other than a watch or a wedding ring (younger men should probably stay away from that one even more).

That said, I think things like puca shells and hemp are alright in a laid back atmosphere, but definitely no gold chains.

I wear one of those puka shell necklaces. Have worn it for years and would feel naked without it. Dunno what it is about it... just feels right.

I wear a stainless steel chain that is plain all the way around.

Do I care what others think? No.

I will special case a ring to some extent. Instead of the traditional shockingly hideous high school class ring, I opted for a simple, tastefully understated gold signet, which, unlike the craggy semiprecious abominations ordered by my classmates, didn't go into a drawer as soon as I hit college for fear of advertising myself as a freshman.

(I let the fact I looked twelve do that work instead.)

Puka shells I will grant provisionally, the provision being you'd better be prepared to have a surfboard under your arm all the time, or at least maintain a credible surfer build at all times. Otherwise it grants more poser points than style points.
