Yeah.
Watching games on TV is a waste of time.
What do I care what team wins what game?
What am I getting out of it sitting like a bump on a log eating Doritos and drinking beer.
I'd rather not waste my time on the couch like a slouch.
I go out and play the sport with friends and family.
Sound about right?:D

Well I was just trying to make a point, if you enjoy watching a game on TV then it's not a waste IMO, just like waiting in line to get a phone.

Why are you bringing America into it at all then? You are deliberately bringing up a topic to slander America for no reason. I don't care that you won't find these lines in New Zealand or Australia. It has nothing to do with the topic at hand.
KA is just trolling.

These people are the equivalent of youtube commenters that type “first!”
Lol, funniest comment I've read

Yeah at least in Thailand usually the launch is delayed. You can find grey market imports for insane prices until the official launch.

On Black Friday people don't wait in line they stampede each other to death.
Holy crap we annexed Singapore??!!?? And gave them statehood so their citizens are American now? I know some people in Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands that are going to be so salty. Colonizin' like a boss.:p:D
Lol, sshhh, don't tell the people of Singapore this.

I'll wait for the smoke to clear, there will be more coming in stock.

all that waiting and suffering in line just to get a phone a day or two sooner? I guess you gotta do something with your time while you're on welfare

Get real.
It's a line.
Not a death march.
It's curious you automatically jump to the welfare scenario and instead of reasoning that maybe they have jobs schedules that allow them to be out there, like police officer, corrections officer, fireman, or just a regular 9 to 5 with days off.
Nice try though.

If you need a phone NOW, you get what is available, otherwise a little delay should not matter.
Get off your soap box.
The world doesn't revolve about what you think should be.
If they want it now, its their right to stand in line and get it now.
Has nothing to do with you and ain't affecting you in anyway unless you have a serious jealousy problem.

Not true most shootings take place at work or at schools.

Its just appalling that shootings in schools are seen as somehow the new normal in the US. It should be the last place that happens.

As for the queues, its a phone. They aren't limited edition and they aren't going away in a hurry. Just don't get the fascination in being first on a device that will sell in the millions and be in so many peoples pockets within weeks. Nothing exclusive about them, so you don't even get bragging rights if you are that kind of person.

Just pointless.

From this thread I got to know:
- there are a lot of people around the world with huge amount of disposable income and time
- the said people enjoy waiting in the queue and find it a way to socialize.
- they find it a part of the experience of having an outrageously expensive iPhone
- they’d rather take a day or two off work to have the latest and the greatest gadget as soon as possible instead of using that time to go on vacation.

Maybe these people already have both the time to line up as well as time to go on vacation.

I don't care about iPhones. I care about a sick world.

I'm guessing your really upset that other people might not be impressed with your material things.

Judgmental much?
Judgemental? Yes he is. He is also right. Both can coexist.

Ooops...
Sydney:

"In Australia, where Apple Sydney is about to open its doors, the line wraps around the building's corner. Local reports say the queue started to fill up this morning, as not many fans were inclined to brave the weather last night. :"

You were saying?

There is a higher quota of narcissism in that queue I would hazard a guess. Probably a PhD in it.

I used to stand in line back in the day for the new iPhone or iPad. That was before the whole pre-order thing. It was kind of fun. It was usually me and a couple friends and we always met pretty cool people in line. And that feeling when you finally got up there and the Apple person got your new iPhone out for you was exciting. Now days I just wait at home for my pre-order--as I will be doing tomorrow--but I (just a little bit) kind of miss the line experience.

No it’s not. I wouldn’t do it, but it’s not sad. It’s what they want to do, with their free time, and they will use their money for it. Some people stay in line for hours to watch a football game (which may be even on TV) or a concert, and some people will even pay otrageous amounts for it.
Right? So much bitching, moaning and complaning about what other people do with their time.

Why bother guessing?
Does something about the line bug you?

What material things?
I never mentioned any material things I may have to be impressed with.
Maybe you should stop reaching.

And maybe you should stop guessing so much and come up with something factual.

My very good opinion of Singapore as seen on "Crazy Rich Asians" just sank into the Indian Ocean! Nuts to stand in a queue in such heat.

Those people are paid by Crazy Rich Asians to queue.

Joke aside, many are tourists from neighbouring countries buying back to their countries as many of those countries aren't in the first wave of launch.

They're hyped. Good for them. I've done this for game consoles, so I get the urge to lineup, interact and await the store's opening.

Me, tonight? I'm on my couch, sipping a Jack and Coke, surfing the web on my MacBook and watching Thursday night football, knowing my iPhone Xs will be delivered sometime tomorrow (my 1st ever launch iPhone purchase). I, too, am enjoying myself.

Ya'll do you. No reason to judge. I'm hoping you're all enjoying yourselves as much as I am.

Consumerist sickness.

Still on the soap box.
This ain't the place to worry about a sick world.

No, he/she is correct. You see how much more good they can do for the world's "consumerist sickness" by hanging out and posting on some random forum about one of the most consumeristic companies in the history of the world. I feel comfortable knowing that they already eschewed the trappings of consumerism when they threw away all their Apple products and other material belongings, they must be posting this from the library computer at the Shaolin monastery. I can already feel the world is a better place.
