You mean good artists copy, great artists steal?

Gotta admit it was a good time to swoop in with a product like this. I say this as someone opposed to everything he apparently stands for. But the timing was good.
Thank $deity for Elon, I suppose /s

I'm still not done rolling my eyes inwards after hearing the metaverse presentation.

I think you're wrong about that. Twitter is cash-flow negative. It's bleeding out. The only chance it has of surviving is Musk continuing to dump money into it. I doubt that will happen. Meta can keep Threads going as long as Zuck likes.

Problem is the media outlets essentially let themselves become Twitter clients in every sense. And since the company is private we don't actually get to see the financials anymore, and no one can tell him when to stop. I think you're probably right but he seems to be stubbornly hanging in there.

I'm no fan of Elon either, certainly when it comes to Twitter. He seems to be trying hard to break Twitter down, I don't know if he can build it back up. I think the world would be better off without Twitter or Threads or any other Facebook product and most aspects of social media in general.

It's basically twitter but using instagram handles so FB doesn't have to build up a new user base.
It uses Instagram handles to prevent people from signing up for a Threads account and taking the handle of someone who spent a lot of time, energy, and money to build up their following across various social media channels.

Let's use MacRumors as an example. They have multiple social media accounts... Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, etc. If someone was able to freely pick any Threads user name, this person could have taken MacRumors before someone from MacRumors could claim it.

Tying the Threads account to an Instagram account prevents this.

Agreed, but he recently confirmed that they are still cash-flow negative and bleeding advertisers left and right. Reputable brands are done with Twitter. Threads is a safe space for them. Unless you're drunk on the Musk Kool-Aid, it's easy to see that Musk's idea of "free speech" is nothing more than giving ridiculous and often reprehensible ideas a platform. Who wants to be associated with that? No reasonable people want to interact in that sort of environment and no reputable brands want to advertise there. It's done. Eventually he'll get tired of losing money and it'll disappear.

So my take on this is, even though Zuckerberg is definitely the only executive people attach to Facebook, when you go to the site it you wouldn't know it. He runs the show, but he isn't the show. When Musk took over Twitter, he was Twitter. He gamed the algorithm so that he showed up in your feed constantly (from what I read he even force unblocked himself from feeds.) He changed the logo for some time based on one of his inside jokes. He makes sure that he is Twitter.

You can hate Zuckerberg but still forget about him when you use Facebook/Threads/Instagram/WhatsApp. Musk won't let that happen with Twitter.

I don't need to see Zuckerberg in the app to know that he's a scum bag mining my data every possible chance he gets but I get your point.

How would you know? After Elon bought Twitter he took it private and laid off thousands of non-productive people. Surely by now the cash flow has turned positive.

They know because he said so, like last week. You also don’t get away with painting the layoffs as something positive for the company. It breaks every month.

Good for you.

You realize Elon does the same thing, right?

I do. I don't use either of them. I do think it's funny though how some sites promote Threads like its some app to save us all and then they trash twitter and Elon musk because they disagree with how he runs it.

I don't use either so it's not of consequence to me.

I amended my earlier post as I know what you were getting at but I didn't communicate it clearly.

Ok, just making sure. I've seen a lot of people saying that Zuck mines data and Elon would never do such a thing. Free sites are built on selling data. Only reason Facebook gets a target is because people wrote an article about it.

A few have mentioned that both Threads and or Twitter, will not be around for long. Sorry, I disagree.

I feel celebrities and the wanna be celebs/content creators will continue to use one or the other, strongly. After all, some individuals merely want to share ‘everything’, to keep themselves relevant.

Just my opinion…

About politics... no one has to agree with you on everything. You don't have to like everything someone makes/says. Just deal with disagreements and differences and like what you like.

I don't like everything this artist has created, but I like this piece and many others he's made and I can still enjoy the things I like without dwelling on the things I don't like.
