Meanwhile, I've happily been on Mastodon for months. They don't take any of my personal information. There's no algorithm so I see only who I follow, and people are genuinely nice and seem to want to talk to you.

Not yet. But you can certainly delete the app and ignore posts.
Hardly. All apps have the same means of gathering data, subject to the permissions given. If you’re referring to their “privacy label”, that’s just a text provided by the company. It doesn’t have any technical meaning as far as what data can be gathered or not.

After the latest updates of Threads and Instagram both apps stopped working with certain VPN providers. Additionally, with or without a VPN, Threads still doesn't work in the EU for the most part.
To me it’s the energy Meta invest to keep certain people out of their Apps is incredibly. We are not talking about simply DNS blocking. As far as I can tell they are using a very advanced combination of IP, VPN, DNS blocking combined with some sort of geofencing and signals from their vast ad network to identify the location of users.
This energy should be used to make a better product for everyone instead of excluding a few for purely political reasons. We already have a billionaire social network operator who thinks only of himself and we don't need another one.
Overall, I don't think the current development says much good about the viability of threads or the intentions of its operator

Threads is here to stay, clearly. It’s being seperated from insta soon so you can deactivate it without deactivating insta. Twitter also isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either. Everyone here is hilarious.
Sure, if Elon wants to just keep Twitter going as his personal echo chamber of ridiculous and reprehensible ideas, er, sorry, free speech, he can do that. But it'll never make money. He's poisoned it at this point. Meta might have lost billions, but they're a hugely successful company. Their products are used by 1/3 or more of the world's population. They have all the time in the world to make Threads a success.

Zuck has the board/shareholders to answer to. Elon has plenty of more shares to sell. Elon has all of the time in the world to make Twitter cashflow positive (which seems to be this year or the next).

Not at all. Meta crashed and they bounced back relatively unscathed. What's your point? I don't care for Zuck or Meta, but he's running Meta well and his board and shareholders are happy.
