This product isn't for the masses and won't be for many years. I never said never. One day more people will be able to afford a Vision Pro, whether that is because the price comes down slowly over time and/or more models are introduced. I don't expect that we'll see anything but Vision Pro for the next five years and I don't expect the price to drop much in that time. It's a cutting-edge device. There's no quick avenue for making a "cheap" version. One day it will use fewer cameras. Screens will be less expensive. Etc. But these innovations take multiple generations.
Yeah, as an Apple engineer friend of mine said, the less expensive option will be to buy used or get a hand-me-down when someone upgrades to the next version. Apple devices tend to be in use longer than products from most other competing hardware companies.

So my take on this is, even though Zuckerberg is definitely the only executive people attach to Facebook, when you go to the site it you wouldn't know it. He runs the show, but he isn't the show. When Musk took over Twitter, he was Twitter. He gamed the algorithm so that he showed up in your feed constantly (from what I read he even force unblocked himself from feeds.) He changed the logo for some time based on one of his inside jokes. He makes sure that he is Twitter.

You can hate Zuckerberg but still forget about him when you use Facebook/Threads/Instagram/WhatsApp. Musk won't let that happen with Twitter.

My use of Twitter has stayed high since Elon Musk purchased the company. I don’t follow him and he has only shown up in my feed when someone I follow RTs him.

The Twitter you knew might be. But the Twitter it’s evolving into, will be just fine. Hate it or love it, it’s not going anywhere.

Let’s meet here next year and see who’s crystal ball needs batteries. 🫠
That’s a fair assessment. It’ll be like Tumblr after they banned certain content a few years back.

They really went all the way to ban it in the EU 😭 doesn’t even work with VPN anymore. I wonder how they block it?
To be clear, it was never released in the EU.
On the question of how Meta can tell you’re trying to access it from the EU even if you’re on VPN? Lots of ways. Connecting to the internet via VPN doesn’t mean your not sharing your location data, especially on mobile.

Since this topic seems to have gone off the rails Im just going to kinda get it back on track and drop this here.

It's not short, AKA less than 5 minutes, but worth a watch. It's a pretty spot on legal analysis.

I HIGHLY recommend this YouTube channel, not just because of the above link, but because the guy can break it all down in layman’s terms.

This is what Twitter has become now thanks to Musk, it was always there, but this kind of garbage is now boosted, promoted, and trending all day long.

Most normal people don’t want to see stuff like this forced down their throats, this is not “freedom of speech”, read about the paradox of tolerance.

Vile.
Lol I was waiting to see if anyone would respond to that. I couldn’t have done it better. BRAVO!

I made the mistake of downloading this useless app. I don't use it but I can't delete it without deleting Instagram. I will wait until we are given the choice to safely delete

Threads is here to stay, clearly. It’s being seperated from insta soon so you can deactivate it without deactivating insta. Twitter also isn’t going anywhere anytime soon either. Everyone here is hilarious.
If it becomes possible to delete a Threads account without the associated Insta account it will be interesting to watch the numbers. They go down or up?

Brings a new meaning to, "Sorry, I can't come out today - I've got my threads."

False... Threads will die well before twitter does.
I am not convinced of that judging by the rate Threads popularity has grown, and just how many accounts are generating traffic daily. I've noticed quite a decline on Twitter and convinced it was taken over to wind down. When you consider Threads is much like Twitter, I think it will coexist and perhaps become its replacement eventually, just like Facebook did to MySpace.

This thing will die in a couple weeks.
It is highly unlikely it'll die in a couple of weeks. What is more likely is that new features will be added along with ActivityPub support and during that time the people who left Twitter for Threads in the belief they could run away from the problems on Twitter will soon realise that those same problems will follow them to the new platform. What is the source of the problem? an algorithm that amplifies the worst the platform has to offer and create peverse incentives that encourage users to embrace the worst aspect of human nature to increase engagement and amplified by the algorithm. Twitter is a toxic cesspit but it is highly likely that Threads will eventually be, in the long term, only marginally better than Twitter.
