Well, I suppose that I will go acquire his music illegally now since the 6-7 songs that I had in my library are now gone. Good move, Jay.

I dunno. Tidal was a really good service, IMHO

I gave them a solid go for a couple months back when Beats Music was yet-to-be-acquired and that was my service of choice. At the time, I went running back to Beats because Tidal's user interface sucked and there were huge gaps in their catalog if your tastes lean on the obscure side. The HQ was cool, but not worth $20/month for the shortcomings I mentioned previously.

I signed up for a trial with a different email when Kanye's latest was exclusive for a month or so last year. It didn't change that opinion, but to be fair I haven't used it in a year.

I think a few more people should chime in and let us know how much they don't like rap or haven't heard of Jay-Z. It adds so much depth to the topic at hand.

Indeed!

Talented man, and although rap isn't my favorite genre Jay-Z is one of its greats.

Seems like a move to try to bolster Tidal, which would make sense, but without knowing more it's impossible to say for sure.

As a fan of Jay-Z, I find it sad that I even want to go back to pirating his collection. I was so happy to finally be able to pay $9.99 a month to get his music (and others) legitimately through streaming. I'm hoping he does cave and come back. At one point I was subscribed to the big three to get exclusives. Apple Music wins me with the shows.

To me personally, this guy is THE most overrated rapper in hip hop. He first album Reasonable Doubt is an absolute masterpiece but everything that has come after is complete trash with only a handful of semi-decent tracks. Sick of narcissistic crybabies pulling power plays like this--it only hurts the consumer in the long run. Good luck with Tidal.

S dot Carter, You Must Try Harder,
Competition is NADA!
I'd say Hova's competition is certainly far better these days as guys like Kdot and J Cole are so much more original and creative, and redefining the genre with much better beats and flow. (Money can't buy everything except for a record label, solid production and a wannabe streaming service, right?)

I'm still old school and buy my albums including a lot of rap albums.

I can see why's he's doing it, but unless he can convince a high majority of hiphop artists and labels to follow suit and be 100% tidall, i Don't believe this will have the effect intended.

He needs to try and find a way to play on the music business dislike of Apple's control over music.

We know the film industry rebuffed Apple as they did not want to end up slaves to Apple like the music business.

He might be trying to make some money back from his failed venture by trying to lure Apple, Spotify or another competitor to purchase the company. Companies just need to wait it out until they flounder.

He has so much money, and is married to one of the most powerful women on the planet. He doesn't need to be relevant.

I'm sorry, his wife is Beyoncé, a singer. She's neither a world leader nor a Fortune 500 CEO. She's certainly not "one of the most powerful women on the planet."

That first statement is WIDELY up for debate

And just because I don't know someone personally doesn't mean I can't hold an opinion of him/her. public figures (and more specifically celebrities, though they are still people of course) open themselves up to the opinions of the public, both positive and negative.

Small price for being "fabulously wealthy" and married to Beyoncé.

I don't care for someone devoted to the illuminati. All the minute details
Fall by the wayside for me when that reality sinks in

1. I agree, it IS widely up for debate. It is music after all, and a matter of taste. However, even reputable sources like Billboard Magazine put him in at #2:

http://www.billboard.com/photos/6723017/the-10-best-rappers-of-all-time

Also, having sold 100 million albums and earned 21 Grammys speaks strongly towards that assertion.

2. I did say you're entitled to your opinion, so no debate there.

3. All that said, to automatically assume that Apple isn't even partly responsible for this fallout seems a bit disingenuous.

The man is a highly successful businessman and thus should be given the benefit of the doubt here, is all I'm saying.

Everything else is somewhat irrelevant from the issue at hand.
