Big question?

Do you think they are producing 2 different versions of iPad2? One for CDMA/Verizon and the other GSM? Or will they use the new dual-radio chip by Qualcom that can be used on both?

If iOS 4.3 will work on a CDMA iPad2 I'm sure it can be jailbroken to work on a CDMA iPhone4... Or am I missing something?

I really hope the new iPad2 can work on both (USA) cell providers!!

I didnt see any slot for the SIM card either...

I'm guessing that the CDMA iPhones will get the features shortly after March 11. Given that 4.2.6 just launched on Feb 10, the crew likely didn't have enough time to make 4.3 universal for both. I suspect it'll come out shortly.

The biggest disappointment is the fact that the screen for the iPad is exactly the same on in the original. No upgrade there at all. So unless you need the extra horsepower, I'm not sure I see the incentive to upgrade. The software will have all the goodies.

Here is your answer. Verizon has a very long internal QA of any firmware update. This is mostly done to discover any back doors that may be placed in ROM updates by third party contractors employed by the device manufacturer. Yes, it has happened. It also checks for anything else that can alter network traffic issues such as odd, heavy data bursts.

Verizon iPhone users, learn to live with this, when you see an iOS upgrade, the release for Version phones sometimes goes out as long as six months.

This makes a lot of sense as to why 4.3 wont work on Verizon iPhone4

I've been looking as well, I can't find it. It's certainly not on Apple's site, either.

It seems the same as the iPhone 4, but I'm not sure. They said the rear camera can do 720p video and has 5x zoom and the front facing is just VGA.

One site I saw speculates it's the same as the iPod touch, meaning 960x720 which would suck. At these price points, the rear camera should have at least 5 megapixels. Slight disappointment it doesn't have the LED flash either, since they're pimping it as a great video solution.

Looks like 3G is already EOL'd

I think the 3G was already EOL'd when the iOS 4.0 came out with its super laggy performance.

It is going on 4 years old now, it's old arm11 processor can't really keep up anymore.

What? No further updates for Verizon's brand new iPhone? I guess you have to upgrade to Verizon iPhone V2.0 in order to get newer versions of iOS. Cha-Ching! :D :D :D

that the ipad can't run iMovie. It's only 8 months old and apple are declaring it functionally obsolete regards one of their two new flagship apps.

I appreciate the marketing strategy Apple use, but am really annoyed at the expectation we are to upgrade to use something so fundamental as iMovie on a large screen device which was screaming out for that functionality.

I expected the ipad to remain fully functional for at least two years like the iphone did.

Very annoyed...

Its about ram...the Ipad 2 has at least 512MB of ram...maybe even 1GB...Oh wait the Current gen Itouch has 256mb of ram....so it must be the cameras...

Hmmm

This hurts my hope that UVC support would make it into iOS. Webcam support with the same stipulations as audio interface support would have been the bees knees.

HA @tripjammer - my statement was timely.

Maybe the iPad 1 can run iMovie, but Apple doesn't want to advertise that. I wonder what will happen on 3/11 if you install iMovie onto an original iPad? Or will :apple: block iTunes from allowing it to install?

So much for the cocksure morons screaming at me for suggesting that top notch would be for a microphone.

Not buying this. Apple is driving the bus here ... I can't see them bowing to Verizon on this as it directly affects the brand image. More likely is this is an internal Apple thing.

I'm sure they would love for iMovie to support the original iPad, but iMovie 2.0 very likely needs the extra RAM in the iPad 2. The iPhone 4 has 2x the Ram as the iPad, it may very well be true that this was added specifically to allow iMovie for the iPhone.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ipod_touch

4th gen iPod touch has 256MB. As well as the A4 and PowerVR SGX GPU. It's specs are identical to the original iPad, and it can run iMovie.

Really pleased about Garageband running on the iPad 1, if that is true. Not fussed about iMovie, sucks for those who are.

ipad has a bigger screen which needs more ram.

Why? Isn't that the job of the GPU? Does the model in the iPad not have its own amount of video RAM?

How RAM much until everything works smoothly? I only ask because you seem to be quite knowledgeable enough to throw out such a well researched comment.
