Someone may have already posted an answer to this, but I had the same problem. When you have the widget bar open, scroll to the next page of them and then back to page 1 - the new widgets should appear then.

Spotlight keeps missing things for me.

Is there a way of reindexing or is a bug that it fails to find address names in Contacts etc?

Does anyone here know if Spotlight knows how to index the metadata inside MIDI files? Spotlight isn't seeing it for me, and I can't find a plugin anywhere.

I have a bunch of MIDIs on my computer that I use as ringtones...how can I see what's in the metadata so I can test to see if Spotlight sees it, for you?

Open it in QuickTime Player then do a search on the title you see there. That's the way I tested.

I just found another bug, but I don't know if it's already been noted/reported:

Spotlight saved searches often can't be edited. It refuses to let you type anything in the text box (all you get is beeping). This happened when I tried to modify the name contains portion of a name and kind query.

Okay, the MIDI spotlighting doesn't work for me either. :(

On the second point, I have actually noticed this kind of an issue in a few different places in Tiger...it has happened occasionally in Mail and in some of the DB widgets. I am kind of ignoring it at the moment because the system still seems to be stabilizing out (I had some excessive crashing when I'd first installed Tiger -- on my first batch of test photos with my Rebel, Image Capture Architecture crashed six times downloading 14 photos!). But oddly, since that time, things have been very stable.... So I'm kinda letting it sort out. Probably ought to do another round of system maintenance and reboot this coming weekend, and then see if I have these issues.

When I have the beeping, refuse-to-let-me-type issue, if I change windows back and forth a couple of times, it often goes away. Same for you, or no?

I haven't tried that yet. I think I'll try switching windows several times and see if that helps the next time I need to edit one of my smart folders.

itunes widget
try using the repeat or shuffle buttons and you get aapplication unexpectedly quit message

anyone else get this?

spotlight doesnt find anything on the desktop. does anyone know why?
also, automator doesnt work if i save a workflow as an application then double click on it to execute the workflow. it only works if i open automator and run the workflow from the automator application.

and another thing....smart folders...it only shows the items assigned to the smart folder if i click on the smart folder in the finder....but if i try and click on that same smart folder in the finder window "Panel" (the sidebar to the left of any finder window) it shows NO results.

There is a significant bug in Tiger's iChat. You cannot make voice calls to machines running Panther.

Tiger-Tiger iChat voice calls work, Tiger-Panther do not. The person making the call gets the error message, "There is insufficient bandwith to maintain conference." and the recipient a "There was a network timeout starting the conference.".

I tried again on another machine, which was running Panther 10.3.9, and the chat worked perfectly.

I don't know if this applies to Video chats as well or not.

Voice chat Tiger to Panther works fine here.

Not a Tiger issue; some reported it in Panther as well.

Thanks - I presume it got confused after an upgrade?

anyhow
paste this into terminal

/System/Library/Frameworks/ApplicationServices.framework/\Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain local -domain system -domain user

column view preview...

On the column view in Finder - select an app and see it's preview - the application doesn't expand and fade out when you launch it like it used to.

Still does in the icon view

You should save the attachment as a gif file. The filesize would be smaller and less artifacty.

The original png was 132 KB, and not possible to attach... and the jpeg options with it's target size has gone missing from Preview 3, so I just saved it as a low quality jpeg to be sure to get under 100 KB... but I see now a gif would have been a better choice... Thanks, I'll change it right away... ;)

Edit: Or maybe not... the gif, altough small, was butt ugly...

Spotlight

Spotlight doesn't work for me. I tried reindexing my harddrive and now I can at least search 1/2 my harddrive (much better than 1/4 of my harddrive before i reindexed my harddrive). In fact, there is a whole folder that spotlight cannot be seen under spotlight. I've tried adding the folder to Spotlight's Privacy list.. and then removing it. Still Spotlight does not recognize that folder.

I did a clean installation of Tiger (my second time in 4 days). The first time, my widgets, as well as, spotlight weren't working. So I figure that some of my system files could have been corrupted. Installing Tiger again fixed my widget issue but the Spotlight problem is still there.

I'm also having the mounting issues with Toast when I'm trying to create disk images. The new version of Desktop manager seems to be working fine as long as you don't use any special effects to change desktop. I'm also experiencing some problem with iTunes. Half of my menus is in another language.

Other than that, Tiger is awsome (mainly because Dashboard is so handy). Mail seems to be working fine for me. iCal returns to Jul 17 after you close it, but it's not bothering me as I always have it on. As for shutting down the computer, I'm having that problem too. I just avoid shutting down or rebooting my computer now. Boot up is amazingly quick thou. I've also noticed improved networking with a PC.

Tiger also fixed the issue w/ Finder taking 90% of my CPU usage.

With that said, there's a lot to be hoped for in 10.4.1.

After upgrading 3 of my 4 Macs I've come to the horrible realization that Tiger has completely deleted all my email and email accounts. (I have back ups, thank God.) Not only that but after setting up my accounts all over again, I can only send mail. I won't get new mail. It won't even show the main window at start up, I have to go in manually and have it show. To quit I have to force quit the app.

I had this problem: I disabled Application Enhancer and threw away the folder "bundles" in /Mail/Library and restarted, and it imported all my mail and started getting mail. I think it was Application Enhancer that did it, though, which means this is probably going to be a big problem for a lot of people. (I'm told you can reinstall after Mail is working.)

I had this the first time I installed on my woefully underspecced work machine, and it turned out that I simply didn't have enough spare hard drive space for all my message to update. Cleared some space, tried to run mail again and the conversion was fine. One bit of Tiger working, at least...

It's a problem if you have httpmail (hotmail plug in) installed. The developer is working on an update now.

As much as I like the fact that screengrab now generates PNGs that I can drop directly into photobucket, I find the absence of this feature frustrating. :(

Widgets automatically installing.

I was impressed by the notion of clicking on a zipped widget on a website and having it automatically download, unzip and place itself in your Widgets folder.

This doesnt work though. In fact no compressed files seem to extract automatically like in Panther, which is a shame. I can still do it manually, but part of the reason I got a Mac was because I'm lazy!
