It goes to the event for me...

I can get iCal to find events if I'm searching from within iCal. But if iCal is closed and I'm opening the event from Spotlight, it just opens iCal to today's date. I'm curious; which method were you using?

Even if iCal is open, it doesn't go to the right date for me. But, of course, searching from within iCal is fine. Just not from the global Spotlight box.

Two more things for the list...

1) Has anyone noticed that in Address Book, when you are entering data into a field such as Company, it no longer autofills? For instance, I have a "company" called "Friends & Fams" to keep all my friends together, in addition to actual companies for my working colleagues. Actually, I don't really use the distinction as much in Address Book as I did in Outlook, where I had an organize-by-company view, but... Anyway, it used to be that when I typed "Fr" and waited a moment, it would autocomplete.

2) Anyone using Dasher? Does your computer go to sleep based on energy saver settings, when plugged in? Mine doesn't. I have to try uninstalling dasher and seeing if that's really the reason. I really like Dasher. Truth be told, I don't really need my computer to sleep automatically when plugged in, but I want to know why it does not. Sleep by request (i.e. the lid) works fine.

Hmmm..this *does* work for me. If I spotlight a cal entry with iCal closed, iCal will open, and will momentarily default to today as it starts, but switch to the date of the selected event when it has finished starting up.

I do a search for an event using Spotlight, scroll down to the relevant bit under 'Events & To Do's, click and it'll take me straight to the day in iCal, with the info window open. This is regardless of whether I have iCal running or not

I always thought the default icon for iCal showed the date "Jul 17" because it was the date Apple was founded, or it was someone's birthday or something. If anyone knows the significance of the date, if any, I would be interested.

I thought I'd read somewhere that July 17 happened to be the date that iCal was first shown at a Keynote... but can't recall where (obviously not on my Mac since Spotlight didn't know the answer either! ;) )

Yeah it was MacWorld July 17 2002 :)

*looks at his iCal dock icon in Panther*

Nope it says JUL 17th for me

I think what he means is that in Panther, if you run iCal, and then quit it, *after you quit*, the icon stays on today's date for the rest of the day. Which it did, for me, too....

Grrr! Stop posting these messages! For god's sake people! YOU ONLY HAVE ONE FINDER ITEM SELECTED! Select all the photos in the file then press slideshow.

Sorry i'm only mad because you haven't read the previous messages.

It seems like nobody who replied actually read my post properly actually. :)

(Maybe it was unclear though, so I'll elucidate.)

I know you have to select the photos you want in a slideshow. And it's this that I take issue with. When do you ever want a slideshow of one image? There should be a simple way to invoke a slideshow for all images in the folder that doesn't involve highlighting all the images in the folder. If you've got used to Windows XP's double click one then press F11, it's difficult to rationalise the Mac way.

It would be better to keep the selection idea if you highlight more than one - there are situations where this is useful. But if only one is highlighted, the entire folder should be available via the index sheet and the left/right buttons.

I just got finished installing Tiger, mine was one of the boxes to be held up in the Middletown fiasco. First impressions, very positive. However trying to install classic has led to a similiar problem:

When I first installed Tiger. I first did a full format of the drive then did an install.. Install went smooth took like 10 minutes

booted into Tiger and I wanted to install classic. cause i still run quark 5
I put in my restore cd that came with my Powermac 1.6 G5 and for some reason. theres a quirk that wont let it install it keeps asking for the disk thats in the drive. and wont let it go.

I was on the phone with apple support and they couldnt figure it out.
there advice was to format the drive again install 10.2.7 then classic then upgrade to tiger, this worked for me.

its a work around but it worked
hopefully 10.4.1 will fix many issues

Wishing I had seen this before calling.

I've been on the phone with Apple support for about an hour now (now I'm waiting to be transferred to a "product specialist" trying to get this exact issue resolved. I've stuck it out this long, I'm going to see if they tell me something else.

I have taken the time to reinstall most of my applications (I did an erase and install) so I don't want to revert back to 10.2.x and then upgrade to Tiger again. Here's hoping 10.4.1 solves this and other issues.

I found a Finder bug the first day I used Tiger:

I was copying a whole bunch of files off a backup DVD to my new Tiger installation. I had 5 different copy operations going, which is enough to prompt the Finder to add a scroll bar to the copy dialog. I then resized the copy window to make it tall enough to get rid of the scroll bar - the little X button you click to stop the copy got scrolled halfway off the side of the window, and the progress bar grew a little.

After I close iCal, the date shown in the dock icon always reverts back to July 17th.

My wireless reception, however, is remarkable.

I had that exact same problem all through panther..

Still having problems installing widgets

I am still having problems installing Widgets  For some reason I have to restart the Dock before they appear on the Dashboard tray, I have to restart the Dock using Terminal or the Activity Monitor.

Not that big of a deal but it is just annoying.

Second I went to burna disc this morning and I got a message "the disc media is not recognized by this drive" or some crap like that. Up until I installed tiger I had burned dozens of those things.

Can anyone help with these issues.

Go into system prefrences, International, and Edit the list. Add another language and take it off and you should be able to burn disks.

Attempt to move widgets to ~/Library/Widgets and see if you can load them. Note that there's usually a Page 2 on your widget bar.

Moving them does not help either  I guess I will just have to play around with it. However, I do have another question, is there a way to change the order of the Widget icons on the Dashboard Tray? I'd rather have the Widgets I use more frequently on the first page rather than the second.

thanks.

p.s. has anyone elso noticed the Translator Widget to be a bit buggy? It take like two mins. just to translate "hello" from English to Frenc.

In Safari, on secure pages, I'm constantly getting errors about not being able to open a page, when I click a link. I then have to use the back-button, and retry, sometimes several times, before it works. It happens on a wide-array of sites. What is Safari's problem? They need to get this sorted.

i cant seem to paste (apple+V) anything into stickies

can anyone confirm?

is there a url where we can submit problems to apple?

the input menu keyboard shortcut and spotlight short cut are both command space by default.. so that needs to be changed by the end user

Kyle, I just tried it, and I am able. Did you make sure that the cursor is active inside the sticky first? Oddly, C/P from Safari to a sticky causes the result to be in the default font of the sticky but the color of the copied text.

PowerBooks broken by Tiger

Here's copy of the Feedback I sent to Apple regarding damage Tiger did to my Powerbook:

I did a clean install of Tiger on my PowerBook G4 (1 Ghz, 768 RAM, Giga-ethernet Titanium) and it resulted in the following bugs:

The F1 and F2 keys no longer function to control Brightness Up/Down.

In Display Preferences, only one resolution is available: 1280 x 854. Furthermore, there is no brightness slider to control monitor brightness.

In iTunes, full-screen visualization does not work.

Other PowerBook owners have reported identical problems in the Support Forums:
http://discussions.info.apple.com/webx?128@940.tPYFapKBQqr.8@.68adc304

Finally, this feedback form does not have 10.4 under 'Select OS Version'

P.S. I should mention that I have done the following in an attempt to remedy this:

a) Repaired Permissions
b) Booted into single-user command line and did 'fsck -yf'
c) Reset the PMU
d) Reset the PRAM
e) Reset the NVRAM
f) Deleted the com.apple.displays plist
g) Created a new user account and logged in from there.
f) Did a second clean install. The problem remains.

A user in the forums reported that when he booted into Panther, his keys and resolution returned to normal functionality. This is most definitely a Tiger problem.

anyone else having problems with Excel v. 2004 trying to open as a classic application??

Tiger is the first OS X I have known to have "pauses." By which I mean you are working away, and suddenly the system will freeze for a split second, as if it is very busy. This is common in Windows, but I have never known it on a Mac. I have dual 2.0 G5 with clean install, so I don't think it is some annoying 3rd party app, maybe it is something they changed in the kernel.

Airport autoconnect

When I boot up or come back from sleep the airport connection doesn't autoconnect to my wireless network like it did in Panther. Very annoying. Airport reception is a lot better though.
