It's kind of funny that a Chinese company is using America's constitution to defend itself, a defence that wouldn't fly in their home country.
trump is doing the right thing !

It's ironic that the U.S. criticizes China for things they do, but then the U.S. wants or tries to do those same things.

If the U.S. has to become like China to oppose them, then what's the point?

If you consider banning access to particular apps in the US is akin to becoming "like China", perhaps a read-up on Chinese law and how its government treats its citizens will be of help.

Really? How? How has he violated the constitution?
List each thing.

Here are a couple...

1) Blocking people on Twitter:

2) Preventing people from peacefully protesting (1st Amendment violation) at Lafayette Square when he ordered his soldiers to tear gas and attack them to clear them out so he could get in a photo op at St. John's Church.

Why Trump is going after TikTok, which was an app that didnt even exist a few months ago, instead of going after other Chinese companies producing and importing electronic products and services in the US for years now? Obviously, he has quite a decen intel on TikTok suggesting that it is full of spyware but they obviously cant reveal how this app stills data because at the end of the day, it would reveal how the US intelligence service collect their intel. Even if you absoletly hate Trump, you should agree that China, a country that reports only 4,6k coronavirus deaths, is not trustworthy in any way or form. Suprisengly or not, the European Union hasnt said a thing and TikTok is widespread in Europe.

I hope you are realising that if Apple has to remove these apps from the app store globally that they will incur a huge loss of income. And a huge a loss of income will result in less R&D money and new products.
No it wont. Apple has more money than it can spend on R&D. Secondly I think TikTok should be banned from the US just like how various US companies are banned in China.

You forgot to mention that St. John's Church was set on fire by these peaceful protestors. Trump then ordered to clear the plaza to protect this historic monument/temple and then finally, he decided decides to go to this churh and make a declaration from there. This is the order in which the situation development. So no, he did not prevent people from peacefully protesting nor he used force in order to take a phone. The photo is just a culmination of a seria of event.

Tik Tok did exist a few months ago. You are just late.

And why do you think that the ban only affects iOS and not Android and their google store?

Yeah, ban every app that can be sniffed out by any secret service regardless of location. That will be interesting.
Hmm... those lovable chaps over at the NSA... wonder what they're up to these days? Never hear of them...

At least you are able to recognise it as a dictatorship and don't confuse it for communism. Communism with money, social inequality, and central authoritarian leadership..... I hope to see a rich nation taking up socialism and communism in the future, let everyone enjoy the nations wealth.

Right, because xyz "just hasn't done communism right", right? EVERY communist state has FAILED spectacularly. But they just didn't do it right. You can ask my neighbor that escaped Fidel's Cuba about the joys and utopia of communism. But again, it will be probably dismissed. I prefer to reap my own rewards, work for what I have, rather than a "government" providing for me.

The only reason Trump is doing this, is to shift attention from his horrible popularity ratings and his failure to address the COVID pandemic. And guess what? It’s working.

Always talking about freedom, but in the end Americans want a government that decides for them what apps they can install.
He's readying the playing field for his inevitable defeat in November. Create a crisis, divert attention, declare a National Emergency, invoke special powers, suspend the election result and basically remain as President despite having lost. One thing that One-Term-Trump doesn't like, and that's being a Loser.

Might be the first time I am rooting for Trump... get that chinese spyware out of here!

Then get rid of Facebook and Google as well amongst many others.

I don't get these comments, really, Tiktok is right to sue.

Look at your own NSA, and what is that other nasty one...let me think, can't recall, if I know I will edit this post.

Edit: Acxiom

There has never been a communist state. Lenin's Russia was working towards it and then it was quickly corrupted into a dictatorship. Communism likely could not work in a poor country like that, it needs a rich nation that can pump more money into automation so the people can work towards bettering everyone. If there is no democracy then there is no communism. The closest and most likely candidates we have just now is Western Europe where we have strong social nets and are looking to things like having your minimum income provided by the government then you work the job you want to pay for the more lavish things you'd want to buy. Free university to improve the nations wealth and free medical care are also required and he currently have these in Scotland.

I know it is scary that someone might be able to have the same as you, and being able to afford the same holidays as you and same schools as your children. But it'll come eventually and people will stop giving a monkeys about someone they deem poorer/lesser being able to afford the same stuff as them.

There's more, of course:

Violating the Emoluments clause:

Violated the Constitution by taking money from the Pentagon to pay for his border wall (I thought Mexico was supposed to pay for that?)

Violates Constitutions "Separation of Powers" - three times in one week

Believes a clause in the Constitution to by "Phony" so he need not abide by it.

And more... so much more.

To anyone who has said this will affect Apple and Chinese users buying iPhones... the answer is no. As someone else alluded to in their post, there are regional App Stores. I have used an iPhone purchased from China and signed in to my Canadian iTunes account, and I could still download apps like YouTube and Twitter despite them being banned in China. So TikTok being banned in the US does nothing to Chinese users who can just make a secondary iTunes account if they're in the US and using a US account, and isn't even on the radar of Mainland Chinese.

tiktok is banned in China
Not completely true. TikTok is known by another name in China, I believe the name is "Dou Yin," and it is stupidly popular over here. I can't count how many people I've heard on the metro/subway using the app because they have their phone volume on full blast and are not using headphones... UGH...

I believe in equality of opportunity. Not necessarily of outcome. You can’t just expect things to be given to you for merely existing. Hard work is something that I will always hold in high esteem. Sloth and entitlement are not values I personally subscribe to. But good luck.

You think you get a free ride in a communist and socialist society? Are you daft? You work like everyone else and put in even more work to better yourself and everyone in society. If you collect the bins that is just as important a job as maintaining law or performing surgery. People will still do what they love, perhaps even more so as the barrier to entry is lowered and your worth is based of your contribution not your bank account.

That you think hard work should only be done for a bigger paycheque is a sad reflection on your society. Why on Earth would you not want to better yourself and your society?

So you are all dying in corona… and Trump goes after dancing girls in a stupid app??

Hm, let's see. 92% of Chinese said in a poll that they would change phones if the Apple Appstore didn't provide Wechat. That amounts to a 30% drop in world wide sales. Seriously good move! The world stands in awe of the American wisdom and leadership!

I don't think a lot of posters in this thread realise how big Tencent and WeChat is around the world. TikTok is a nothing, it's entertainment with no risk to national security anywhere, other than being used to mock Trump.

If Trump bans WeChat from iOS, then I'm not sure Apple will be happy to sit back and accept a 30% hit in worldwide sales, and 100% hit on sales in China because of the foot stomping of the man child in the White House.
