I answered the difference above in my edited post. There is a big difference in user experience between the previous pinch project and Apple's.

iPhone 3G is definitely less laggy than the Android at that time. The original iPhone may be even faster.

Apple has evolved their touch technique further. In the last WWDC, they could detect multiple overlapping gestures now.

No, you haven't answered anything.

The patent does not cover any technical implementation of the gesture detection system. It does not explain how to prevent lags - in fact, it does not cover anything that relates to lags.

So may I repeat my question once more, what's the actual innovation that the patent protects?

Any naysaysers, watch a comparison video of touchwiz to stock android and tell me android doesnt purposely emulate iOS.

That said, I don't think samsungs actual phones look anything like the iPhone, other than the ace and galaxy S. But even those are a stretch.

I'm sure there are other companies that can make the parts but there are other aspects to it. Do they have the infrastructure in place to supply the numbers now not in 6 months and can they maintain a level of quality. There probably a good reason apple have used Samsung all these years

They can't raise price in 6 months. I think many of the contracts are till 2014. Also, they are in a different Samsung division, not the mobiles one. Afaik, they all work independently and target their own profit.

Bezetos, why are you so worked up? At the end of the day does this is ruling really impact your life in any way? I somehow doubt it.

Apple has become the corporate giant they so loathed in the early days, doing what large corporations do. They have become the IBM that Steve Jobs hated.

Unfortunately, the arrogance of Apple hurts them. Its a huge turnoff to people thinking about going Apple. I am a huge Apple fan and own nothing but Apple where I can, but these lawsuits hurt them and their image.

This is very good overall and shows the major flaw of all Asian culture -- no creativity! They just try to copy, treat their citizens as serfs and overwhelm competition in volumes. Japan lost when we invented a weapon they could never imagine and we nuked them.

This time it did not come to military action and only civil. I hope Apple buys Samsung outright, fire their exec board and have a few Korean American ex-patriots runs the show over there.

The level of idiocy know no bounds. This is when the whack jobs crawl out of the woodwork and apply their own misguided thoughts to the world. Clearly we can see this ingrate and his ideology are not alone.

No wonder countries all over the world hate 'team USA' with comments as vulgar and immoral as this. Stretching legal patent victory to connect tangentially to world war is nothing short of psychotic and insane. Patriotism at its worst and yet I can't help thinking the jury was consisted of several people such as your wonderful self. More concerned with the weekends golf and team USA than anything else.

I'm not suggesting price rises, people keep suggesting apple should just find some else to make the parts.
I'm saying it's not that simple not even taking contracts out of the equation. A new supplier needs to be able to produce the quantity and quality

I'm on an Apple forum because I use Apple products and want to express my opinion about them. I don't have to be an Apple fan in order to be here.

Agree with you on this , the notion that you have to love a company to post on a website is just ridiculous. I come here and to many other websites as I have an interest in tech, not bothered who makes the tech just about what's new how it works what it can do for me.
I find blind love of any multi national out for profit company to be very odd.

The fact you have 11 votes is testimony to the level of intelligence the average American has including yourself.

Military action? Racism? Nuclear war.

You touch on a number of stereotypes but only seem to prove the American Stereo type to be true. - Stupid, uneducated and ignorant.

You do realise that the technology that makes the iPhone actually work is British (ARM) Screens are LG and Samsung and Sharp all Asian, the CPU was fab'd by Samsung and Nand is Toshiba and Samsung & put together in China.

The fact they let you out of the asylum astounds me.

By the way the US didnt invent the Atom Bomb either it was joint effort by US Canada and Britain. US were the first to use it. Go back to school.

Good for Apple, maybe a somewhat less arrogant statement may have been better but overall i am happy they won.

Bezetos, i recommend laying off redbull for a while..

Yes, it may be a problem down the line, then again, I'm sure big companies like Samsung or apple take steps against these bumps. Apple is already looking around, isn't it? Though the yields are reportedly poor.

That's my point to the people who just say "find another supplier" I appreciate youve not said that. It's more pointing out to some people on here who make wild ridiculous statements like that.

Well said Timmy. Well said.

For those who wish to read Samsung's statement.

"Today’s verdict should not be viewed as a win for Apple, but as a loss for the American consumer. It will lead to fewer choices, less innovation, and potentially higher prices. It is unfortunate that patent law can be manipulated to give one company a monopoly over rectangles with rounded corners, or technology that is being improved every day by Samsung and other companies. Consumers have the right to choices, and they know what they are buying when they purchase Samsung products. This is not the final word in this case or in battles being waged in courts and tribunals around the world, some of which have already rejected many of Apple’s claims. Samsung will continue to innovate and offer choices for the consumer."

Taken from WSJ.

Posted for completeness purposes.

Yes Samsung, instead of doing more of your own R&D, spend all your money on appealing this case, that will help you invent products consumers want.

As Jim Cramerwould say - SELL SELL SELL

.

A great PR-led announcement to rile the Apple troops in Cupertino.

But this trial is most definitely about the patents and money. Not what they won or what they asked for - but because of how Samsung poses a threat to Apple's market share.

I'm sure some of the anger is over the feeling being copied - that's why Apple has trade dress and why they sued. So to say it wasn't about patents is not really true. If they want to say this is only about the morality of copying/stealing then they're a bit hypocritical. A bit. I'm not saying more or less than Samsung or other manufactures. But it's a slippery slope if you want to poise your company as the ethical and righteous ones because it just encourages the media and other companies to point out how much you aren't.

At the moment - big win for Apple. It will be interesting to see what happens with injunctions and appeals.

I'm not sure I get the arrogance comments?

I don't blame them for pushing that legal button. Innovation costs money, lost of money. this is why it's a major risk for any business. no business wants to innovate unless they are forced too. apple took the risk and are now forcing samsung to have to do the same.

Is a google lawsuit coming? who knows how far apple wants to take this, but my guess is a shot at the major hardware maker that uses android is a shot at android. So in a round about way this was probably to deal with google as well.

The reality is that people watch TV or read the newspaper, they see the news that Samsung was convicted for copying Apple, and ordered to pay a billion dollar, and unless they have a deep emotional involvement with their Samsung phone, it is obvious that Samsung is the bad guy. Only in the bizarro Samsung fan world does Apple winning a lawsuit for Samsung copying hurt Apple's image.

It would not change tomorrow, but that it would make future negotiations more difficult would be a very real scenario. Apple in the end can opt for an higher price for components from a different manufacturer and increase the price at the stores.

The consumer always loses in these matters ...

So that justifies theft? That argu
Ent has been used to pacify consumers and workers for decades. It doesn't wash, even if people like you believe it.
