Compare Jimmy Fallon with his fake laugh to Graham Norton, where the guests feel comfortable and have fun. Or with Craig Ferguson on how funny he is flirting with guests.

I know they're there to make money but American hosts became pure propagandists. Just like Hollywood movies; it's not to entertain, but to send a "message", to "educate".

Steve Jobs certainly picked the right person to take the reigns at Apple. Apple’s meteoric rise to a $3T+ company validates that choice. Apple has long been lauded as one of the best managed companies in the world and I’m confident the rumored succession plan to replace Cook will keep it at the top.

Only the right person for the shareholders.
I don't care about the 1% getting even richer, I care about good products that are delightful to use. No much on that front during the reign of Cook.

If that video tried to humanise him to seem more than an empty corporate suit, it completely failed.

He's always been a closed book, but he used to have energy to sort of fake enthusiasm during small talk. But now he seems exhausted and like he's lost a step.

When he was asked what he liked the most to say, "All of it." And then "You can do Genmojis, you can do Image Playgrounds." (PLURAL)

It sounds like someone doing a book report who didn't read the book. Or the way older people say things like "My Google is broken."

The laundry list is like a mattress salesman saying, "The bed's great. It's got springs. It's got fabric. It's got batting."

Except, most don't even know what Image Playgrounds [sic] is, so it's even worse than a laundry list.

It didn't even seem like he was thinking. He used to be, while extremely boring, even somewhat piercing in his ability to carefully answer while not saying much of anything.

Now he just seems sloppy and tired.

I noticed the same thing in an MKBHD interview he did a while back. He didn't seem deft and prepared to navigate the questions.
I think part of this is his personality. We all saw him at the F1 race in Austin a few years ago. He looked like the most bored person in the world doing something which one should be excited for...and if they aren't, then don't freaking wave the flag.

We are also at a point where every CEO doesn't need to be worshipped, which is hard for some people to fully understand.

Is anyone else getting tired of the blind cult-like attitude that has been developing for some time now around this company? And this is coming from an Apple fan.

The fake “reviews”, the very scripted “interviews” from 17 year old “influencers”, the constant gloating over most minuscule details, the vomit inducing virtue signalling, etc.

It all feels like a colossal cesspool of nonsense to me. Maybe I’m just getting old.

It used to be cult-like for different reasons. They've always been very heavy on the marketing and light on reality when the message suited them.

But yes, especially post-Covid when everything is highly scripted and sealed away, it feels much more fake now.

If the attention to detail is still there, a whole bunch of minor improvements that make lots of things more pleasant to use can actually be a selling point.

At least to me, but I guess I’m not quite normal.
I agree with that. I apparently was one of the few people who liked MobileMe. It had the feature where signing into your Mac with your Apple ID transferred your system settings, which was very nice and seemingly not well known.

I think those are types of things that are hard to market. But I still don't like them arbitrarily making them into a suite of AI features, and I think MobileMe showed it's difficult to try to sell a subset of features as a product. Being an iPhone should be enough. They've always had updated features and didn't have to try to shoehorn them into being part of a trend. I feel like people are going to be searching around their phones for Apple Intelligence, wondering where it is (even once it arrives) because they've marketed it so much as if there is one big thing there, when in reality there will be an assortment of feature updates. Or maybe they'll think Siri is Apple Intelligence. To me, Apple Intelligence is really just a marketing phrase (and capitalization on the AI trend) to indicate that their operating system is getting new features, but that's never not been the case. Which I think will make it confusing or disappointing for a lot of consumers (not to mention it hasn't even arrived yet).

No. But you certainly are entitled to your opinion. To keep this slightly on topic, the video was cute.

That’s more about social media than apple. They are just riding the wave.

Maybe and maybe.

I don't know why Apple keeps going for cringe-inducing stuff like this as of late.

Tim Cook isn't a bad guy, but he's not a charismatic person at all. I wish they'd stop trying to make him loveable or inspiring, that's not what I expect from a CEO. He's no Steve Jobs and that's really ok.

Make great products, ship them on time, and keep that awesome Apple experience going. That's already plenty.

I'm old enough to know this has existed for decades. They weren't called influencers back then, but there was no shortage of fawning journalists and publications that spoke no ill of Apple.

Perhaps the cult attitude feels amplified given the reach of social media.

Apple PR knows how the game is played and are reaching out to younger influencers too. And to be fair, these influencers are simply following the money. Positive review = Access to Apple events = more views = more $$.

I'll watch a few videos and then be done with it. Many will have some lame provoking thumbnail to clickbait you, but it's usually a just their opinion which I don't need to hear.

There’s even a video on YouTube showing the behind the scenes, it’s kind of sad to see how fake everything is on TV when you look behind the curtain. One of the cue cards even says “touch face” 😄

Video
It is not a secret that all is fake, but they could at least pretend to be genuine and the producers could try to script a natural conversation.Obviously, Tim is not an actor but Jimmy is, but their performance seems to be on the same level. Artificial and lame. The post-production is also bad. The video that is coming from the iPhone is super shaky and low quality.

I'm curious to know who paid whom. Apple to Jimmy for advertising the new iPhone or Jimmy to Apple to have some new material for the show.

I don't really understand why so many people dislike Jimmy Fallon. Both him and Tim Cook look like they're having a good time here, and the start of the skit was funny to me at least. :p

I like the one man "Apple : stop selling unsafe phones to kids" protestor in the background

Last time I walked into an Apple Store I'm pretty sure there wasn't a line of kids with thousands of dollars lining up to buy the latest iPhone!

How can Apple make great products when you admit he's no Steve Jobs? :p

Sadly, the new awesome Apple experience is buggy software (most recent of which is iPadOS bricking M4 iPads) and delayed OS features

All this is scripted, of course. Now Jimmy gently touches Tim's face 4 to 6 times with his right hand, open palm.
Tim must be both tired and bored to death with this kind of stuff.

So his job should be to improve that, rather than trying to be cool/likeable (with Jimmy Fallon, of all people).

Priorities are all wrong.

You'd think the CEO of Apple would probably NOT want Fallon to treat the Apple Vision Pro like it's a blindfold - do either of them know it has pass-thru video?
