This is why I have to smile when I see some people here coming out with statements along the lines of Apple won't be updating the watch.

It will be years before they change it :)

And just what do these people think other brands would be doing during this "multiple years" of Apple not updating anything?

I look forward to seeing the Watch Apple is working on today for next year as I'm sure they are, and probably even have a few concept thoughts about the one after that.

Oh totally! At an age where we can see new technology coming every other day, at an age where a phone launched today can label inferior the phone launched just a month ago, it is hard to believe Apple not upgrading/refreshing its collection at least once every year.

It is only a matter of time when someone will start manufacturing a better alternative to watches compatible with both iOS and Android. Apple cannot afford that competition.

Apple is already the richest company in the world. It can afford ANYTHING.

I expect one new watch each year.
We really only get one new iPhone every other year as it is.

Exactly. Apple likes to say 'Early', 'Mid' and 'Late'

Giving you Jan-April, May-August, Sept-Dec

'In the Fall' is particularly misleading though, as it means Sept 21-Dec 21
Making 'In the Fall' almost exactly the same as 'Late', or even 'by the end of the year' or 'this year'

So in review,

Early = Jan 1 - April 30
Mid = May 1 - August 31
Late = Sept 1 - Dec 31

'In the Fall' = Sept 21 - Dec 21 (almost the same as 'Late')
'By the end of the year' = until Dec 31
'This year' = until Dec 31

All of these are usually uttered late in the year so almost all mean Late Oct early Nov so that they can be in time for Christmas.

Yeah, I don't mind the 4-month window much. However why give such a time frame at all when you're certainly not going to launch it for the first 3 months & 3 weeks of that window anyway? Why just not say April-May 2015 or Late April or Early May?

Cook: "Early as first four months, mid is middle four months and late is final four months."

so for them, up till the end of April is early 2015.

Which is also how they label their Mac models (early 2014 MBA, mid 2009 MBP, late 2013 iMac, etc.).

Yeah thats what I meant by my post. I was rather implying that Apple most certainly will release a new Watch every year and thus agreeing with the quoted poster how he find the statement "It will be years before they change it" laughable.

I'll have to disagree there. No company, may it be the richest company or the oldest company or the sole company, can afford competition.

On schedule ?? April is not begin of 2015 anymore

They never said the beginning of 2015, they said early 2015. You can have 'early', 'middle', and 'late'. April is within the first third of 2015, so I'd say that falls within the 'early' bucket.

Tim Cook said:
My expectations are very high on it. I'm using it every day and love it and can't live without it.

As if Cook would come out and say he hated it.

Oh dear Zod. Is everyone really debating what constitutes early 2015.

Who cares. Go out. Meet Girls/Boys. I am looking forward to getting mine, perhaps even 2. 1 for exercising. But it's just a thing.

Already Exists - its a Nano with a Wristband

Doesn't this already exists, it's a Nano with a Wristband. :rolleyes:

Yes of course. Thank you voice of reason. Yet still, this is a website devoted to Mac and by extension Apple rumors. Yet here you are chastising people for discussing rumors and dates of release when you yourself should be out meeting boys/girls.

You could have at least used a more appropriate alternative activity, like "go tend your clash of clans village."

I've always loved this assertion that people that put up a post or two about an inane topic have no lives, no physical social experiences, and are frothing-at-the-mouth obsessed.

I helped define 'early' up above. And yet I've raised five children into healthy adults, own my beautiful home, have a successful career, happy family, lots of 'real life' experiences and, yes, enjoy collecting 'things' too. :cool:

The conference call today included formal definitions which can be used to interpret future Apple statements. From Tim Cook himself-

early: Jan-Apr (ie. 30 Apr)
mid: May-Aug (ie. 31 Aug)
late: Sept-Dec (ie. sometime before Christmas)

According to these now official definitions there is no delay.

April ... just gives me another month to save money.
Maybe I can "upgrade" to stainless by then. :)

you should wait for one with actual acceptable battery life... then you might actually be able to save enough for the 3000 dollars version. ;)

stop with the fighting kids.

let's the honest, the ONLY way Apple said "early 2015" is so they can push it to the last second before releasing it. Don't kid yourself, Apple did not have everything figured out when they announced it, I still believe they do now
