Microsoft said the same thing about Windows 8 and look what a fiasco that is! I'll believe the new iOS is good when I see it's good.

Have to agree, big changes like this always make me a little nervous as it can go either way. Hopefully it will be less Windows8 and more OSX Tiger.

I'm glad they're revamping both os's at the same time. Maybe they'll continue this theme of paired releases. It's definitely a good way to prevent inconsistencies between the two.

Nothing against Ives, but if he delivered the keynote, it probably would take 3 hours long at the pace he speaks.

I absolutely loved it though when he got on stage to introduce the new unibody enclosure for the MacBook Pros.

I am with you! I believe Jobs chose the right guy to run the company!

I enjoy it when Tim Cook gives interviews. They're always insightful and interesting. Knowing the people on this site, however, I'm probably in the minority. :/

should we really believe this guy ?

I want to see OS X without depressing greyness all over Finder... and have it change the name to the more descriptive "Mac OS".

The name "Mac OS" is already taken. It's the name of the ancient operating system that Apple used from 1984 to early 2001 or so, and which was replaced with OS X.

I think we need a bigger picture of Jony for the article.

LMAO!!! :D I am on the floor laughing, I have a 23" screen and as soon as I clicked the article had life-size picture of Ivy's mug...

Best comment! :D

What do you suppose Tim meant by 'Post PC era'? My understanding is the Windows still dominates the computer market, so it presumably isn't a software related comment?

There are high numbers of sales, mostly by default because the second largest laptop/desktop OS isn't sold to OEMs, and the third largest laptop/desktop OS doesn't have any sales force selling it actively to OEMs, but it isn't "dominating" anymore. If you look at what devices home users use for their computing needs, it isn't actually that strong anymore.

It's an uncommon surname?

Some think the name is Johnny Ives
Admittedly when someone writes "Ives" at least we know it wasn't a misspelling of "I've".

The first thing I do is remove launch pad & mission control from my dock. I'm not really into the iOS-ization of OS X. I don't mind it as long as I can remove it, or customize the OS to how I want to use it.

As for iOS, we need more advanced options and control. The simple interface was nice, but it's not cutting it anymore. We need to be able to put widgets on a home screen. They also need to include something to see what apps are using data.

I'm afraid Apple is going to not do some of this. They'll add a few new features, but lock us down even more.

FCPX is awesome. If you want FCP 8.0 use Premiere.

I can't see myself using my macbook pro without mission control and launchpad. I too take them off of my dock, but only because I use the trackpad gestures to get to them. I think both iOS and OSX can borrow things from one another, although I would rather iOS borrow from OSX.

I wonder if this is a hint into Apple's future vision - phasing out of desktops (except the iMac, which is effectively a desk-bound laptop anyway)

No, not really. The only thing "laptop-ish" about the iMac is the GPU and Ram it uses. It still uses a desktop class CPU and HDD. At the least the one I use certainly does.

Yes and no. The "Mac OS" moniker (while ending in 2001, because up till then people just called it Mac OS) was used in system 8, 9 and X. It wasn't until Mountain Lion that it was replaced with just "OS X". :)

I'd prefer Leopard or Snow Leopard than Tiger to be honest.

I really just hopes it includes custom repeat for calendar entries. It's really annoying to need to wait until I return home and fire up my Mac just to enter a "repeat every second Tuesday" event in calendar.

Does Sir Jony ever age? Like ever? Or is He (the Chosen Padawan of SJ) destined to look like a 29-year old for the rest of his life?

I mean... take Jobs for example. The dude aged like 26 years between 2004 and 2011. Meanwhile, Tim Cook has accumulated a lot of grey hair since the time he took the role of CEO.

My theory is that midichlorians are responsible.

Very interesting development in the las 7 months, all heads/fathers of mayor OS were lost: iOS, Android, Windows.

Looking forward to the world ahead of us.

And I don't know how a 100% hardware non programer but a master of design can do to iOS. My thinking about this is that Ive will hear his team and will use his design power to choose which way to go. I would love Forstall to be still in Apple, but I have to trust Cook in this. I'm afraid yes, but hei, Android and Windows lost their fathers too. They can not go worst than their 2D GUI design.

really interested in seeing the changes

why is there no WWDC countdown at the top of every page?!?

Hopefully they'll let me answer my phone when I'm eating bbq chicken!

All jokes aside, can't wait. IOS needs a revamp and I'm sure it's going to be great.

The new ios...

I personally like and use both Launchpad and Mission Control but they are by no means perfect yet and I still think there is plenty of room for improvement.

I wish Apple would focus on quality and less social networking integration. How much more do we need in our devices? I'd rather engineers would bring OS X back to the stable, advanced system it used to be and scrap all the Facebook and Twitter focus. iWork and iLife have received little focus aside from iOS updates to their suites. Finder needs an overhaul, multiple display support is lacking, OpenGL Core is really lacking (people shouldn't have to boot into Windows to play games on their Mac's, or for heavy design work), pro-Apps updates, and improved hardware. The LED LCD's have been hit or miss for many, myself included. After 3 years of numerous repairs and replacements on my 2 24" LED LCD's, Apple just replaced them with 2 27" LED LCD's. One thing I will always love Apple for is their customer service, at least for me I've been fortunate in that department ;).
