You can’t fix stupid. Our founding fathers understood the importance of having three co-equal branches of government that serve as a check and balance against each other. When President Obama was elected and my right wing family members went nuts offering up such non-sense as “he’ll crown himself king and never leave” I had to explained to them the basic history and design of our Constitution. I had to have the exact same conversation with my left wing family members when President Trump was elected.

Anybody who thinks we won’t make it through whoever the sitting President is and that it’s “never been worse” clearly hasn’t studied the history of the United States of America nor World History. It’s been worse, much worse, and we’ve survived and prospered. Our history is very much that of two steps forward followed by one step back but the arc of justice, freedom and prosperity is long and it trends upward. “It’s never been worse” isn’t a partisan issue it’s an educational issue. Too many of my fellow Americans are simply ignorant of American history and believe too much of what they read on the Internet or see on their partisan cable news channel of choice.

As much as I hate Trump and think he's a disaster, I can't say you're wrong. I personally am someone who is extremely troubled by this particular president for too many reasons to mention here.

But I'll admit, there were plenty of people I know who seemed equally aghast at Obama and thought he was 'ruining' the country, and I would tell them they were being overly dramatic and silly, for the very reasons you highlighted.

But here we are now and I feel the same way about Trump. So intellectually I totally get what you're saying, but on another level, I still think Trump is one of the worst blotches on the institution of the presidency that this country has ever experienced. So I have a hard time reconciling the two feelings.

Sorry, just wanted to point out that the world is rather free where I live and he ain’t leading anyone over here.
I don't know where you live, but wherever it is, you probably don't have the kind of freedom of expression found in the US, not that it's perfect here either (in rare cases it gets hairy if you talk about Israel). Some places maybe do. I know Europe and the UK do not. Same goes with various other freedoms.

Quite sure I am freer(is it even a word? lol) over here than there in US :D

Lived there 3 years, loved it, but saying you are free there and there is less freedom everywhere else is a "Fake News".

P.S. I am in Europe :D

I hear you. There's some of us Americans who act like we invented freedom. The fact is, most people who say that probably haven't studied a lot of history or been to some of the other great countries around the world.

On a related note, I'm always a little tweaked when people talk about how 'proud' they are to be an American. I can see being proud of your child, or a job you did, since you personally took part in it, but to be an American, all you did was have the cosmic luck to be born in this location. I would say I'm very much GRATEFUL to be and American, but 'proud'? That word just doesn't work for me.

Well I respect the love for a country, I love mine despite the issue we have here, and believe me we have many, I had the luck of traveling and LIVING (not just as a vacation) in many different parts of the world, and as you suggest, it is ignorance (in the good sense of the word) that makes people believing they are the "best".

(Oh and we believe too much in what we read online)

Each country has something to learn from others, but before criticizing a country people should live in it, not just go on what they feel it is like to live there.

Also I think it is higly subjective, we have problems here, but I would not trade "My Country" with anyone else, this is not because other countries are worse, but they are "worse to me" or I should say I prefere to deal with the issue we have here.

America is a great country, and I owe them my College education, will always have a special place in my heart, but would not live there, as a matter of fact I moved back as soon as I finished my studies!

Tim Apple. Just another left-coast robber-baron like Jeff Amazon and Larry Oracle.

Please. Obama made plenty of mistakes of this kind, including thinking that he was in 2008 when it was indeed 2011, that the US had 57 states, that Austrian is a language, that St. Louis is in Kansas, and that a tornado killed ten thousand people (it was 12).
It just happens.

Lad...the 57 states thing was a joke about 57 Islamic states, as there were accusations of him being Muslim at the time. So not a mistake.

Trump comes out with bangers like “local milk people” and “nuclear weapons and other things and some of those things are bad things” like every other week.

Yes all politicians lie to an extent and make mistakes. It’s the quantity and consistency from Trump on their fronts is an order of magnitude higher than any US president in the last 100 years. A bit mad to say “oh they all do it”.

Cook is a clown.
Trump made a genuine mistake what is Cook trying to achieve here.
Put some effort into making good products again that’s what you’re paid for.

Please provide links to videos or other evidence that supports these claims.

I'm not American so I haven't got a dog in this hunt BUT "Please provide links to videos or other evidence that supports these claims." Jesus man,do YOUR OWN Research; then if it's true or not true THEN comment on it. Don't be the whinney bitch saying "no you prove the evidence, I can't be bothered"

Technically he’s right. Forum rules say that when asked sources should be provided. Although I already did, I complied again.

I’d argue that it depends on how you define freedom. For example, here cops can’t stop you without a good reason. In general, in Europe they can. Also, here freedom of speech is certainly broader; we can have stuff like the nazi party which in many if not all European countries is illegal. Libel laws are also way more relaxed here compared to Europe.

To be fair, cops here can stop you as much as they do in US, ( and if they are doing a check onoyou they are onlyodoing what theytare paid for) I can't speak for other countries in EU.
Also we had a beach that was spreading fascist info and was " for fascist only" .... So really do not understand how we are limited ...

But I would be all for limiting fascist / Nazi stuff! And would not consider that as a limiting my freedom.

Edit: I would actually argue we have too much freedom....

As I said, perspectives :)
My opinion is that a pint of beer makes all of us friends in freedom :)

Actually, thinking that this is 'harmless' is the reason the US is a laughing stock these days (and most other english-speaking developed countries...). Politics needs an overhaul, as do the people who run for office and all the people who don't vote, yet complain.

My jest is in reference to the response, of course. Regarding the original flub; I totally agree with you.

I could go for a big order of "Utica Greens" right now. ;)

Too funny - hey, any time you're in the area! :D

Everybody here is laughing, but we're overlooking the fact that Bill Microsoft wasn't invited to this advisory board, and I think that's a real shame.
He is retired and doing meaningful things with Gates Foundation.

That's pretty funny. Good on Tim for taking things so lighthearted. Hopefully our president can have an equal sense of humor about it. It's a screw up, not a big deal. back to work everyone.
We know trump is a screwup, he doesn’t like it being mentioned. Sheeeesh quiet, our fearless orange headed leader is quite sensitive.
[doublepost=1552064512][/doublepost]
Never said you did, but to the ones that call him stupid, you don't get to where he is by being "stupid".
Took more than stupid to get him there. Took lies, bloviating, Putin’s help and 49% stupid electorate in just the right districts.
[doublepost=1552064650][/doublepost]
Name any politician you like, and I can link you something dumb they have said. I'm sure you have misspoken before.

no... everyone just loves to call attention to his mistakes. it's very easy to paint a picture in what you choose to highlight, and ignore.
Exactly, ignore over 9,000 lies in last two years. If only it had just been the Tim Apple thing.

There are some things we can say definitively "have never been worse". Like the size of the national debt, the scale of indiscriminate surveillance by government and corporations, and the surge in the number of illegal aliens in the country.

Having 3 branches of government isn't stopping the enslavement of future generations with debt.

No citizen ever had their communication and location tracked the way it is now.

No country has ever survived population replacement and been the same, either.

Gosh, how did I know that all the examples would be from the blaze or the daily caller...
And yes, calling "Franco" "Flacco" is a flub. But as I said in my original post which I'm assuming you read because you quoted it, he didn't call him James Actor or James 27 Hours or Mr. Buffalo.
