He may be getting paid a ton of dough, but man, that's gotta be a horrible job/life for anyone. I can't imagine anyone willingly wanting to be CEO of Apple.
That's the dumbest thing anyone can say. Tim Cook has that job because he "willingly" wants it; if he didn't he'd step down or quit. Nobodies holding a gun to anyones head here, no feels the responability to step-up against their will. The people in those positions are there because they want to be there.

Why? both companies are making money hand over fist.

Because Privacy will become more and more important to people and tools/regulation will likely be put in place to limit the amount of information companies can collect, thus vastly reducing the data these companies collect and rely on for advertising revenue.

I disagree, you're right regulation will be put in place so these companies are more transparent about telling people what they collect but most people won't care and will continue using the services because they are convenient.

You can take the high ground and say “I’m not OK with what you’re collecting” but most people will say “OK, at least I know now what you’re doing…ermm I’m OK with it”

As long as people know what’s going on they don’t feel cheated.

Google Search remains the best, hands down. I have DuckDuckGo set as the default on my devices, but continue to go to Google when I need trusted results. Sad reality.

Apple (and other browser developers) have done a fine job giving controls to users to protect privacy. Just use a Private/Incognito window. Easy, done. On iOS, the private mode even stays active until you turn it off. Problem solved, while still getting the best search results available.

Tim, PRIVACY! IS WHAT YOUR CUSTOMERS WANT! IT'S MORE IMPORTANT THAN ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD! DON'T FORGET THAT!!!!!!!

Informed users, yes. But the average joe doesn't really care, until it bites them in the behind.

Yeah same for me little hint: add !g to ddg search and it will take you to google results

... and Apple needs to let Google and its billions go away as the default - but we're not there yet. I use DuckDuckGo as my main search engine, but use Google as a backup because DuckDuck gets most things but sometimes its not good enough (and I'm pretty motivated for privacy)...that's not good enough for the regular public at this point.
Why does Apple need to let google and their billions go? Should Apple block access to google? If not people are going there anyway. I don’t see any issue with being paid to hawk something people like and can get to regardless.

Google and Privacy is a bit of an oxymoron. I guess $3 billion is enough to mellow that core value a bit.
So is Apple, the reality is they take your data just as much as Google does, but Google at least tells you they are doing it.

Bold prediction: Apple at some point will get into the advertisement business like Google/Facebook and you will slowly start seeing Apple walk back this 'data privacy' stance they have.

They can only increase the price of their products so much that at some point consumer just turn to something cheaper. There is billions of dollars to be made here and it would easily offset lower sales of their devices.

So again he proves that $$$ is King at Apple. All the rhetoric in the world can't hide this. Like McDonalds sponsoring the Olympics.

Next stop, the $2000 iPhone that is designed with "everyone" in mind.

I'm always amazed that there are people that think Apple as a largest, publicly-held, for-profit company in the world, is about anything but the profit (not directed at you, in general) This isn't the underdog company trying to win the hearts and minds of people, and topple the big, greedy company at the top anymore. This IS THE BIG, GREEDY company at the top.

Why does he assume Silicon Valley has "missed it" on gender just because there are more men than women in tech companies? Is he suggesting to force women to work at companies which they've chosen not to work?

It isn't tech companies' fault that the female enrollment to STEM fields in post-secondary, despite all kinds of resources thrown at it, remains quite low.

But I suppose for those who are of the 'equality of outcome' variant of collectivism... nothing matters but the ends.

And still no one from the press asks him about AirPower and AirPods wireless case. Not that he would disclose anything but he should be pressured to say something about it.

The problem with his interviews is that they are all the same. Nothing revelatory at all in them.

Google is also best for searching on Apple's own Support website. Anyone try searching for things on their Support site? How can Apple's own website search be so terrible? Let me guess... Apple respects Apple's own privacy, therefore they don't give themselves access to their own data on their own website

Not with the business practices they are having today. I would be ashamed of myself.
What business practices? Why to be ashamed?

Its amazing with this many unhappy Apple customers and shoddy business practices they manage quarter after quarter of record breaking revenue. Amazing.

You know private mode only steps other users on the same physical device see what you've looked at? All the website you've visited still know, and heck, if you use Chrome, Google will still know.

just to spark the trolling bot fire:

Apple is unique:
they control all your hardware, software and your cloud.
selling user information is nothing brand new for Apple

Apple is just another 40 year old company on the NASDAQ

Tim Cook and a hundred layers of management below him are MOT your go to peeps for anything.

Distorting truth to suit your argument would seem more of a reality.
Steve did the same thing, but he had the reality distortion field perk. He could tell us the sky is green and the sea is purple, and we would accept it as gospel.
how many Tim Cook related post is not related to political nature's topic... lol, doesn't anyone see sth wrong with it???
Tim Cook 2020. He's got my vote.:D Unless Jony Ives is is running mate. The reason I voted against Pappa Bush in his bid for a 2nd term was because Dan Quayle.

Nothing new. Apple is in the best position moving forward to manage the increasing privacy concerns. Google, Facebook, and the like will need to seriously rethink their business model. I am guessing this is why Google is developing a new OS and focusing on hardware. They see that Apple's model is better for the long term.
I find Apple to be a bit hypocritical. Yes they tout privacy as a feature but, every single app with some more than others collect our data whenever we use those apps. I’m not sure how they square that with their privacy policies.

They leave it up to consumer choice. It’s the only way to do it. As long as they keep their house in order, it ultimately falls to the customer on who they share their data with.

I agree the hypocrisy is in the details. The only data they have to collect is from their own users and their own ecosystem. Arguably, there have been very mixed results from this.

The idea of collecting data is insanely easy on any any app. Just sniff your traffic using Charles and see what's getting sent. The only safe method to have data be secured outside of 1st party software is to simply not use the internet like the old days. People who think DDG is a safehaven search engine or that Apple isn't collecting data are the target audience for this rhetoric.

Shame is a creature almost as old as the garden of Eden, but I'm not at all sure Tim Cook's company should be held up as a model of bad business practices. There's always been a lot of competition for such awards, ever since the Serpent supposedly tempted Eve into tasting the forbidden fruit...
