The reality for me is that if I cant plug my memory card into it and download my pictures, then retouch them in a FULL version of photoshop, I have no need for anything other than a macbook. Also cannot connect hard drives (no, cloud backups are not a realistic solution for TBs of data) nor printers and scanners (few prints support air print anyway)

iPads outsell Macs when they're 1/3 the price. If Macbook Airs were priced in the range $270 at the low-end and maxed out at $830, I highly doubt iPads would outsell Macs as much.

It doesn't matter about price. The point is still the same. The iPad in whatever variations and configurations people choose is more than enough for most people's computing needs.

You can connect hard drives, you can connect flash cards from digital camera, you can connect printers (even non-AirPrint).

It's not the mouse that makes the desktop or laptop. It's the capability of the hardware and the available software. The point is, for "many" people, the iPad is already there. (Not everyone is as stuck on the mouse as you apparently are.)
My post had quite a few thumbs up - so maybe I'm not alone.

Tim Cook is an advertiser, not an innovator. He understands ads, not people's needs. That's why OS X has 2.5 star rating for a while now. It will not replace anything. It gives apple engineers another device to support for many years.

In related news: iPad Pro Will Not Replace Notebooks and Desktops for 'Many, Many People' until it runs full OS X.
And if it did you'd complain that it is as bad as Windows 8 or Windows 10, because it would be, except it has less software available for it.

Apple should continue to improve iOS. Add features to it, rather than try to cram OS X onto an iPad with an ARM processor.

You see, Tim Crook. You're just a salesman...telling people that everything is good. You failed.

Do they seriously think iPad pro can replace full-fledged computers? At least now I get why it with a keyboard is as expensive as a 11" macbook air.

Are your needs everybody's needs? no

Nope, but guess what? A lot of people need MS Office, the Adobe Suite, and IDEs to do their jobs. Unless someone's job is to sit around and listen to front facing speakers, draw with the Apple Pencil, and type gibberish on the Keyboard Cover, then this iPad "Pro" won't do the job for anyone.

Unfortunately, Cook's dream world dictate what products consumers can even buy. This should be a sure sign that he wants the Mac Pro dead, as if the lack of attention wasn't an indicator already.

A lot != many or most

Has he tried replacing a desktop/laptop computer with an iPad? A bigger screen is nice but it doesn't fix the iPad's biggest problem as a productivity tool which is the software.

I love my iPad but iOS is just too limited for a lot of work.

Im a web designer, I write lots of code. This thing will not replace my iMac.

Compare this to the 12" MacBook, though. There is a lot of potential overlap between those customer bases. If all you do is email, browsing, basic word processing, presentation or even simple spreadsheets, this could be appealing, particularly since it is designed for touch input and the pencil upfront.

Ads? I don't think you understand what Tim Cook's claim to fame is. It's operations and supply chain management not ads. He is largely responsible for Apple's success since the iPod days. Steve Jobs didn't just hand select Tim out of nowhere. It's the guy Steve trusted the most to lead the company forward. Timmy is doing a fine job.

Cant replace any Mac Desktop Computers, they don't make any. :/

It has a file system and peripherals. The mouse is pointless on it. The OS had zero need for a mouse

I should of be more specific. I want to play desktop like games that require s mouse, and use full fledge excel that is more user friendly and quicker with a mouse.

Tim never said the iPad Pro would do the job for everyone.

He says that's what he travels with. This is geared toward creative types and executives.

I agree Apple needs to beef up iOS but the iPad Pro has the hardware to be a notebook replacement. Let's see how iOS develops now that they are on the third generation of 64-bit chips.

You can tell by the hate here that Apple's competitors are nervous!

I don't think Apple's competitors believe that the iPad Pro is better than their product. The sheer marketing and brand loyalty are what worries them. Loads of people I know will buy Apple products just for the logo, even if another device would do what they needed better. (Not saying that this is everyone, but just an observation)
