Apple did not expect so many people to choose the iPhone 7 Plus over the iPhone 7, according to statements made by Apple CEO Tim Cook during today's second quarter earnings call.

"One of the things we didn't get right was the mix between the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus," said Cook. "Demand was much stronger towards the iPhone 7 Plus than we expected." Apple's misestimation of the popularity of the iPhone 7 Plus led to some shortages of the bigger-screened device during the December quarter.

Apple sold the highest number of Plus models in the first half of fiscal 2017 than ever before, higher than the iPhone 6 and 6s lineups. Cook says it took Apple a while to "bring the iPhone 7 Plus into balance," something that occurred early in the second quarter.

According to Cook, Apple learns from its mistakes. "Every time we launch something, we learn something, and we brush up our models and apply everything we learn for next time," he said.

Hmm, who is taking a page out of each other's statements book? Nintendo or Apple? More than anticipated....

True as I didn't get mine until November. Longest I have ever had to wait for an iPhone after launch. Love it though and would never go back to the smaller size!! (That's what she said).

You must be a grower then....lol

I mean when you have device specific features, dual camera, portrait mode, bigger display etc, people will want it..

People will want it if the iPhone fits their lifestyle. There are a lot of iPhone users who do not want a 5.5 inch display and Apple chooses to put all the technology into that specific iPhone model. Some prefer the 4.7 inch iPhone model strictly for the comfortability factor.

I think there are some users who will never want an iPhone that large, no matter what technology is packed into a 5.5 inch display. Some prefer the portability and convenience of a smaller iPhone with out all the other features.

That said, I really enjoy the 7+, but I can see why it's not for everybody.

It took me a month to get hold of an iPhone 7 Plus 32GB Matte Black back in December.

But this time around, I'll make sure to pre order earlier than x-mas time.

But yeah the reason I got the 7 Plus was due to better specs ( 1080p and 3GB of RAM )

Love my 7 plus. Couldn't see myself getting the 7. It's really the only 7 worth getting.

An SE is a far better solution if you need a smaller device. That's why I own both.

This is good, it shows that people want bigger displays. Let's just hope they keep a smaller iPhone in the lineup and remove the bezels so they can put a larger display is a smaller form factor.

Seriously??? Last year you only needed to talk to few people that like iPhones and had the iPhone 6/6s that they would be more than happy to upgrade to a Plus model, how Apple had no idea that almost everyone wanted the Plus model just baffles me.

Port removal, as much as I am in support of pushing future tech, is a ballache to consumers during the transitional period, especially Apple users since we are usually the ones thrust into it first. I know all about it because I went through the whole serial/parallel/SCSI to USB thing and boy did it hurt.

Thing is now we are being pushed through two at the same time. USB to USB-C and jack to Bluetooth.

It's a struggle but the payoff is worth it, trust me. But wow, I really didn't predict so many people to make this transition so soon and so willingly.

It's a good sigh though, more consumer support means a quicker transition. Let's just get it over and done with now, the sooner the better.

Probably because people didn't want to upgrade from a 6 or 6S to just a regular 7 because it's so similar. I doubt many care that much about the dual camera.

I walked got mine immediately on December 23rd at a local store.

Hey Tim, I don't think the demand was all that big for a plus-sized phone. Although, there's definitely a demand for the better camera. So when you pull an annoying move by restricting the nice camera to the plus-sized model only, then of course more people are going to buy that one.... duh. What you should be doing is making the same phone in 2 different sizes. That's what people actually want. I'd love to have the iPhone 7 Plus features in the iPhone 7 size.
