For fitness apps, it's important to get some data from the wrist. But the touch-screen is a design flaw.

If you want to attract "real" watch aficionados, the watch needs a classic watch face that everyone can see from all angles with Apple sensors and bands attached. If you wanted to target the fitness market, it needed to be a self-contained LED watch with the same sensors with a battery that lasts weeks if not months.

Apple is selling it as a real watch but it has two major flaws: no face for others to see and daily battery drain. If this doesn't bother you, Apple will have successfully distracted you.

The problem with Apple watch is that its trying to be everything, yet it isnt anything.

It should have had an always on screen like the Kindle paperwhite and a battery life of a month plus to be taken seriously.

I have such a watch and although its not a smart watch the always on screen has lasted about THREE YEARS so far.

A day is a joke.

Why can't they just create a power saver mode? I'll be satisfied if the smart watch part lasts for a day, if the watch can continue to tell me the time for a week or so.

Well considering you walk round with the screen off, I'd call that power-saving.

The watch concept Is flawed, period.

Well, if I use my phone A LOT it also will only last a day. The point of the article is the usefullness of the watch. If its barely used, it would surely last 3 days, and so what!

Phones also lasted a week before the Iphone came in and we know how that turned out.

'Barely used.'...

Isn't that the point of purchasing one though? To use it? If you're not going to use it, why buy it at all?

And nobody asked him about the mess he made with the macmini
Mac Mini profit margin sucks anyway. It's the one they will kill sometimes soon or just make it like a basic home use machine which doesn't need to have killer spec.

This is really going to kill the user-experience aspect of it, if you have to recharge it all the time.

I wouldn't say that, like so many gadgets before it it will evolve and get better. There were touch screen smart phones before the iPhone and tablets before the iPad just like mp3 players before the iPod.

Maybe the Apple watch will kick start things and before long we'll have better battery life along with built in GPS and phone in future watches?

Make it replaceable!

That wont be an issue if users have to charge but allowing user replaceable with simple mechanisms (like popping sim card out or similar technique) allows users to use two batterirs to handle the situation.

Hope the watch is more accurate than Time Machine

"Time Machine keeps:
  • Hourly backups for the last 24 hours
"

"27/10/2014 18:32:12.755 com.apple.backupd[1223]: Deleted /Volumes/Time Machine Backup/Backups.backupdb/.../2014-10-26-200616 (254 KB)"

So 8:06pm to 6:32pm the following day is more than 24 hours?

"wind up charging it daily"

Could this mean that the digital crown has the ability to charge the battery?

Would this even be possible?

Laws of physics guarantees that it won't be possible (unless you are talking about seconds of extra battery life).

Either that, or you don't belong to the extremely small group called "watch aficionados".

One can only hope. Apple needs to flop at something for a change to get their lazy ass up from their comfortable zone of making everything just thinner

Sure, because making devices extremely thin is just such an unbelievably simple task! People who do that are soooooo lazy!

So you have to charge it daily like any Apple iPhone (apart from the plus). No biggie, especially if the charging cable can be plugged into any USB port.

Plus, I work in IT so the movement sensors will have little work to do.:D
