God, I hope TC was joking about this.

"He also pointed out the feature that pings people when they've been sitting for too long, which he sees in use on a daily basis at Apple."

This is a device looking for a problem to fix...#

As an occasional runner, I also find that running with iPhone is hard, especially since now they are much bigger. I'd like to have Applewatch just for running, however, I will have to invest into sport bluetooth headphones.

People (myself among them) gladly paid $399 for an MP3 player in 2001. Why wouldn't they spend less than that for something that does a lot more today?

Not only that be $400 in 2001 would have the value of about $700 today.

No mention if this article is talking about the big or small model.

This article is a rumor, not from apple. Yet, you think Apple will actually put out a watch, any watch, that doesn't make it through the day. You actually stated that this referred to the big watch (so, you're ironically not even following your own argumentation vs the rumor), which by extension would mean the smaller watch (2/3 the volume) wouldn't even be close to lasting the day. That's a complete implausibility. It is more plausible, rumor or not, that the smallest more challenging watch lasts a day and the longest one lasts longer.

Why more challenging? Well, lets see. You're argument is that despite having the best process custom SOC, integrated software and the screen that is the most efficient (OLED), they can't get the biggest watch to match others with less recent off the shelf tech with non integrated software! Perfectly illogical, but that is your line.

More like $500 today, but your point stands (inflation had been pretty low in the last 15 years).

Without a battery life longer than a few days, the only thing it will change is how often you have to run to a power outlet to charge another gadget.

If the reports of hours-long battery life are true, this thing is dead on arrival.

And if you have to charge it overnight, how do you track your sleep, which is an integral part of health tracking?

Tim Cook could at least enlighten us how this is different and better than the rapidly growing number of Android Wear devices, none of which have gotten any traction so far.

Hmmm...all you are doing here is dismissing rumors and replacing them with some rumors of your own.

Revolutionary

Apple is moving away from the pocket watch. They are introducing a new product you can wear on your wrist to tell time. Incredible.

Yes, however, IMO, Tim is starting to believe otherwise. I'm not saying it's bad for Apple. While Tesla and Apple actively poach each other, IMO it's the innovative types Apple is loosing. Tim is frustrated over loosing this type of employee to Musk. Musk is enamored with SJ. Tim feels he needs to prove he can keep this talent at Apple as SJ did.

This is simply my opinion. Apple is in a fluid state. It's core is changing. All companies go through a process from start up onward. Tim is perfect for where Apple is today.

I think loosing tomorrows talent to the likes of Musk gets under his skin in a big way. :apple:

I think a CEO has to keep level headed and make educated decisions. While I don't think Tim will sink Apple, I don't think he can grow Apple to compete against rivals such as Google. So in the long-run he will be bad for Apple, it's just the issues will take years to manifest themselves.

I know folks seem to be split on the necessity and utility of this watch, and personally I am too, but I did like what Tim had to say about it; him referencing all those advancements Apple made to already existent ideas were true and a nice trip down memory lane. The MP3 player was nothing before the iPod and the app stores available on other phones were total crap before Apple's. I believe it'll go the same route with the smart watch. People scoff at the idea of a computer on their wrist because they haven't seen a real reason it could not only be of some use to them, but also that it has no utilitarian attributes. In other words, most people think you just look dumb playing music or texting from your wrist, and they're not wrong. But like I said, this was the exact same mentality of so many other facets of the industry. That is, until Apple came along...

I love my 6+ but I find it too bulky to run with. I can see spending $350+ for the Apple watch if it could track my run without carrying the 6+ along too, but I'm not reading anything about addressing this issue.

^^ agree. I own the Gear S and while it's far from perfect, the main reason I bought it is to not have to carry my phone with me all the time. It does 95% of what I need my Note 3 to do and all on my wrist.

I think Apple is missing the boat from a full home run by not making it a stand alone unit too.

Battery wise, I can get two days out of the Gear S but I still charge it nightly along with my phone. If the iWatch will last one full day 20-24hrs, then I don't think there will be an issue with charging.

if it's a tethered device, you'll still pretty much have to have your phone with you won't you?

everyone thinks that but the real story is not really. I answered a call the other day inside Staples while shopping the guy who saw me talking on what was a very inconspicuous speaker phone asked me if I was using my watch. when I replied yes and showed him, he said "wow that was convenient". Yeah...he made a men in black joke to break the ice but the reality is speaking into or even just tapping out a quick text reply is easy and very handy.

Reading all of these comments about the Apple Watch reminds me how people felt about the iPad when it first was announced.

It's not only you, this is really a de javu...

Remember all the questions regarding the so-called iPad back then? How about battery life? Was that just a glorify iPhone? Was it called iPad or eye-pad? What was it for (or whom was it for)? No one would buy it. I predicted it fail within 1 month. Why Why Why Apple - which then answered perfectly after the product came out, exceeded everyone expectations with a big "oooohhh, I see...."

Note: this not valid for iPad only but for all Apple products.

Picture this: Fat person with borderline diabetes and high blood pressure buys a new Apple Watch. Within 6 months their insurance rates mysteriously skyrocket. Said person says to self: "this smartwatch has really changed my life"

Seriously, I hope to God this new ultra sexy data collecting device isn't a Trojan horse cuz we all should know by now the USA is basically Marxist and the gvt feels it has the right to lie with impunity.

I really want an Apple watch but have serious privacy concerns about it.

TC said you only share your Health information to your choice of Health Provider, not to any government, although whether or not your information will be shared by your Health Provider (including to government) is not any faults of Apple part.

But, we will see when the time comes.

Obviously the Apple Watch is for something else.

Yeah, looking like a big dork when wearing it. Might as well rock the Google Glass while at it. Apple's products have always been about design. But fashion? Not so much.

It's a watch. Granted a "smart" watch. But it might change the way (some) people interact. But "life changing" is a bit much. But as CEO of something under such scrutiny - you really can't expect: him to say any less.

That example of the reminder to stand up though - that's pretty weak.

Just think of the tens of millions of people who sit on their butts for hours at a time and would never even think to stand up unless they had an Apple watch to remind them to do so. Maybe when they stand up they can draw a fish and send someone their heartbeat. :D:D

I will be the first to check back on these comments for a good laugh at everyone who is hilariously wrong about the Apple Watch. It will be a massive success in every way imaginable.

I'm very disappointed that this watch is not 3G, no FaceTime, and the features don't attract me. I Like my Fitbit flex and I think the Fitbit surge can compete with this device with the lower cost. I think I will wait to the 2nd gen to see if they improve it like I'm waiting for a big improvement with the iPad Air.

People are being ridiculous. Human civilization has survived for a long time without an Apple watch, and you will continue to be just fine without one.

If you don't want it, great. I, however, am trying to figure out how to get one after I pay my taxes on the 15th.

Couldn't you really make that argument about any Apple product? In fact really you could use that argument to justify not adopting any technology at all. In fact really, you might as well go Amish. ;)

I don't honestly know whether the Apple Watch will be a huge success or not, but I do know that the one comment about it by Tim Cook is probably the least interesting thing he said in the interview.

FaceTime? More like NoseTime as if you used it as a camera the person on the other end would likely be looking up your nose. Besides, to hold it up in the air on your arm to face time would get tiring. Not to mention look a bit odd.

3G yes because you wouldn't have to hold your wrist up to your face to talk.
