"Our stores and our hearts are open to people from all walks of life, regardless of race or religion, gender or sexual orientation, age, disability, income, language or point of view."

Hmmmm... Not sure that one point is always true...

Well done response over all though.

Have you seen the video? There isn't a lot of room for interpretation. Please see the video first and then tell comment. I am not part of a lynch mob. I often time think everyone gets the short into a bunch for all the wrong reasons and the race card gets pull too quickly. But this seems to be pretty clear to me after watching the video.

Yes I saw the video, and there's plenty of room for interpretation. PLENTY.

For example:

1.) What was going on in the store prior to this discussion?

Yep, that's it. It's not even slightly clear to me. I really hope I never end up in court accused of something with some people from this thread on the jury. That's about as one-sided a video as you're going to get.

THAT said, no matter if something fishy was OR wasn't going on in the store, an apology had to be made to save face. It's the nature of business politics.

Yes, be diligent but preemptively taking steps when you truly do not know is systemically what's wrong here. Walking, driving, shopping while black is NOT a crime and without any sliver of evidence that a crime is being committed, they have no right to treat them as such.

The part we didn't see nor did the media see:

"Here...sign this waiver saying you won't sue us....thanks. Here are your new iPad Pros and Macbooks. Now smile for the camera and look happy."

I don't know what happened and looks like the Apple employees were wrong - however these types of videos only show what happens at a certain time point. Often a few more minutes in either direction really changes the perspective. I also haven't seen the video and don't condone the behavior so if I am full of it I apologize. But too often we get an edited clip that makes someone's bad but understandable decision seem crazy or reasonable.

It's 2015, why is skin color still and issue?

Much of this is because some, and I stress SOME black people keep making it into on.
I recall in the UK a few years ago, it was a statistical fact more black youths committed crimes on the street, and a high ranking police officer said this and was slaughtered for being racist and suggesting black people are criminals, when he was only relaying the facts.

I don't care what nationality, colour, sex etc you are. There are good and bad people in every single culture and country in this world, everyone is an individual, but even I'm sick or some black people twisting things into being racist every time they don't like something.

He could have at least gave each of the kids their choice of iPod Shuffles.
Cheap bastards. :)

I see you are one of those that thinks stuff should be handed over to others for whatever reason.
"Come off of your stuff...give us your stuff...give it to us....for whatever reason, just give us stuff"

Personally I liked the internal memo better and think that should have gone to the media instead of the "We've looked into the details of the situation and we apologize to the customers involved."

not justifying it but there are many countries that simply dont have many black people so the only "experience" they have is coming from hollywood movies and lets be honest it sheds a bad light on black people most of the time so prejudices i am not surprised about

A very heart felt message from Apple and Tim Cook, and the upmost respect from me for acknowledging this incident and sending out a clear message that what that employee said in no way represents Apple's values.

However there is one part that does bug me, the part where Tim mentions Apple Stores benefitting the community around them. I'm pretty sure Apple is just one of many corporate giants who continually avoid paying proper taxes in the countries in which they do their business - taxes which go on to benefit the people of that country. Apple should be at the forefront of what is right and ensure they are paying all correct taxes, in their full amount and declared in the right country. It's not a lot to ask from a company who basically have all the money in the world. Apple have the power to set a good example and set off a chain reaction.

Upmost vs. utmost
When you need an adjective meaning (1) of the highest or greatest degree or (2) most extreme, the word is utmost. When you need an adjective meaning situated at the top, highest, or most upward position, the word you’re looking for is upmost. The latter is an old, almost archaic word that now mostly appears where writers obviously mean utmost.

I thought the video that I just watched an Apple employee was involved. An employee should represent the company and that should be part of their training. I don't know about the law in Australia but obviously the store ("Apple" Store) team and management handled the situation inappropriately. You don't even want to know how did you got your iToys and so Apple is not always innocent.

I suggest that you re-read what you think that you've read.

Typical Australians... satisfied with an apology instead of organizing mass demonstrations and retreating to their "safe spaces". You have a lot to learn, Australia. You blew it on this one.

I will be very honest, I have noticed multiple times at AppleStore, retail reps rushing to help/woo white customers (greater odds of having a higher disposable income) while all the other ethnic groups roam around the store asking for someone to help them. Its sad to see that at Apple but I guess its all about sales.
Except that the employees don't get paid commission.

It's not. This has been blown out of proportion because these kids had dark skin. I can tell you for a fact that it is common practice in almost every retain store, to either ask students with backpacks to leave them out front, at the counter or even allow only one student in at a time. Theft is rife in retail and this kind of policing happens every day all over the world, only it becomes an issue when someone has an agenda to push and a video camera. Where's the video of white kids being kicked out of stores, which also happens every day?

The guy on the left looks like he wants to steal something. Perhaps also the guy second from the right. A couple of the guys look fine. Based on the photo I might be concerned.

Now I'll have to go see the video. Sounds like I'll see an inappropriate response from the employee(s).
Ok, I just watched the video from 2 sites, and it's truly sickening the way the online media handles this. It is SO manipulative!

In this case I can make NO FIRM CONCLUSION either way. 20 seconds of video tells me almost nothing. I probably would have felt VERY uncomfortable if I were one of the boys. But at least the employee was honest, and he was polite sounding (as much as one can be when ejecting a customer who's obviously been challenging his request for a little while).

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME on the media for not caring whether their portrayal is accurate or truthful. We are not even given the chance to observe and decide what happened for ourselves. And even MORE SHAME on we who put up with this - let alone go along with it!

This may well have been an inappropriate response, but the media hasn't even shown us the dignity and respect to decide for ourselves! The injustice shown to us may be even greater than anything the boys might have experienced.

Actually, I think you may have written the second paragraph to the wrong place. You'd probably want to send that to the various legislators in the various countries. You would want to tell them to change the laws so that the perfectly legal measures that Apple and many other corporations take to protect their assets from overreaching taxation be made illegal.

And while you're at it you may want to tell them that their tax laws are burdensome and immoral.

Yes, it's some black people.

Wow, sorry. Don't have a massive go at me. /s

I will amend the original post.

I don't know why that should make you happy. The Australians handled it to the satisfaction of all parties, with a magnanimousness that makes the modern American head spin. Tim Cook then had to piss all over that accomplishment by trying to gin up American-style racial animus over what had happily been a non-event moments earlier.
