But then, I guess countries are quite expensive to run and most of the world's biggest are in lots of debt?

They're only "expensive to run" when they try to do too much. Time to roll back some ridiculous social programs. Not all. But some. And their debt is a result of not being able to look constituents in the eye and say, "We can't afford that."

This is Australia mate. We don't ***** foot around like you lot. Everyone involved in the incident needs to go down to the pub (even the kids) get a few beers in them, say something someone doesn't like, then when it's lock out have a punch up out side. Problem solved, case closed. Australian justice.

This!! 100%

You said what I was going to post better than I would have. Too many videos are out there like this only showing a small part of what happened. How are we to know what the people were doing in the store? I was in a clothing store as a teenager and made a joke about stealing something to my friend and a security guard heard me and kicked us out. Of course, the internet didn't even exist then but there was no outrage or anything. Someone could have recorded that only when the guy was chewing me out and it would have looked bad.
The words in the video were "these guys are worried about your presence. They are just worried you might steal something." That does not sound like they heard anything. And if the kids were messing around (as I remember doing too often myself), they could have asked them to quiet down or leave for disturbing other customers, but these words.... what could have happened to justify these words. I am all for seeing 10 minutes before, but I ask you, what could have happened 10 minutes before that would justify those words? I guess you could argue poor choice of words, but I don't think that would stand up. I worked retail before I kicked out plenty of people for many things, but not once did I say "we just worried that you might steal something so that is why you need to leave."

Something wrong with facts being presented in a discussion? You might try it sometime. I feel for any child that has been raised into violence and war, but do we not all have a choice on how we react? I don't think you can argue it's right to join a gang, robbing from bystanders, retailers, threatening children and creating mayhem in society just because of your circumstances, regardless of skin colour. Since when did the right to break the law overide all other laws?
Well this is a completely different topic than the one I responded to in your comment. Those who grew up in violence, war, and poverty don't have the same opportunities to break out of that lifestyle. It's more than just do the right thing, it's all they know. Gangs, theft, crime is how they learned to survive. You learned to survive the correct way, going to school, learning about society, getting a job, contributing, purchasing things you need, etc. When you haven't had an education or the opportunities and you're living in poverty with bullets flying over your head, your socio-economic background takes a much bigger role in how you're nurtured. As much as its easy to tell a homeless person to "get a job", accomplishing that is pretty difficult when all you know is poverty. I don't excuse it, but that's generally the way humans work.

Also if you want to have a discussion, I will happily oblige. But your need to speak condescendingly and rude to anyone replying to your comments is quite telling.

They may have been acting suspiciously.

We do not know, and probably never will.

Before everyone completely condems this managers actions., open apple maps and search for apple stores in your area. In 90% of cases the store is located in an area of affluance or gentrification. In my case. My closest stores are in manhattan beach (affluence) santa monica (affluence) and the grove (gentrification)

They will never open an apple store in compton, inglewood, or south central for the same reasons grocery stores didnt after the 91 riots

Hell look at apples own leadership. White as the day long, with one token minority in hr
Glad I have such an outstanding neighbor. Cheers!

Excellent point and mostly true. I'll say that I bought my last iPhone in San Francisco (Stonestown) and they had a pretty diverse crowd both in patrons and staff. In fact, they had a few disabled people working there as well, so kudos to them for that.

It doesn't matter where the stores are. Everyone who enters them should be treated equally.

Let say they were. In the retail store I worked security would be called and they would "keep an eye on them." If they took anything, they would arrest them as they left the store. At least in the US you are innocent until proven otherwise. Therefore, you can take action until the actual crime occurs. Maybe the laws are different in melbourne, but acting suspicious is not a good enough reason, at least where I worked. Of course we could get around that if they were also being loud or rude by asking them to leave for disorderly conduct. But here they were not accused of anything other than maybe they would steal something, so just in case, get out. In my book, that is not good..

1. Let's see the records for all previous thefts at that store. (Nice store, BTW.)
2. What could they steal...it's all tied down? I'd call that species profiling.

The Apple Stores do not have an area to put bags...and the security is contracted.
Wrong choice of words in being asked to leave the store for whatever previous behaviour.
That store is the ONLY one in western Melbourne, and typically busy all the time.
The other 4 stores are all in eastern Melbourne.

Kids with backpacks are kicked out of stores every day, so why is this being made an issue of? Oh, because the kids had dark skin. Seriously, people need to get a grip and stop looking for racist overtones just to beat others up with their PC agenda.

Similar to Fat kid attacking little kid... It's called bully.

The guy on the left looks like he wants to steal something. Perhaps also the guy second from the right. A couple of the guys look fine. Based on the photo I might be concerned.

Now I'll have to go see the video. Sounds like I'll see an inappropriate response from the employee(s).

And just what does "looks like" actually mean as used in your post?
