Before everyone completely condems this managers actions., open apple maps and search for apple stores in your area. In 90% of cases the store is located in an area of affluance or gentrification. This is just pure BUSINESS 101 sense. You don't do business in those ghetto places because it's ghetto. Pure and simple. If you run a business you are not in the business to lose money. If you open an apple store in many of the poorest neighborhoods what business sense is that? It's not all full on racism/profiling or whatever PC terms you'd choose here. Money talks everywhere in the world - of course apple isn't racist against any color because as long as it's GREEN, that's what matters most.

This incident in austrailia was caught on camera. Otherwise no one would even care. You argue racism is prevalent in the USA and I agree but look at our country - we have a BLACK president. BLACK. So obviously it's not all racial.

Digressing here...THE ONLY THIEF shown in this video is APPLE. Look at the outrageous prices they charge and the ludicrous margins they make. SMH.

Do we know the full story? Were they acting suspiciously or messing about? Security wouldn't just ask people to leave for no reason. Why were they filming it? Seems to me like they were looking for the publicity.

I'm pretty sure I was once asked to leave the 5th Ave Apple Store, it was around 9PM and I was just browsing around and trying out the new macs when someone came over and was like "excuse me sir I'm going to have to ask you to finish up in about the next 15 minutes".

I had been in the store for about 35 minutes at this point, tried on the watch for the first time and then was on the computers.

I wasn't sure what to make of it so I just left.

There's a reason why no one was fired over this. And it's simply because the staff did nothing wrong. If there was no proof that they needed to be removed from the store then there would be people fired.

I'm sure the full story was laid out in front of Apple and Apple PR.
If Cook issues an apology, he must of felt Apple employees were in the wrong (which is why I jokingly suggested a token iPod Shuffle gift).

Of course he may have just decided to apologize to prevent further damage and giving this story more life.

This reminds me of a Victoria's Secret in my area. The managers are incredibly racist and constantly call security to kick black people out because they think they're going to steal. Like right after they enter they call. It's gotten to the point where the security makes the manager talk to them directly before they kick them out.

I live in the S.F. area.
A friend's daughter, she has money and a credit card, goes into H&M.
From the time she hit the door she was followed throughout the store.

She walked around for a few minutes and then went to the cashier.
She indicated that she had money but would be leaving the store.
They would follow her, but none asked if she needed help with any clothes?
Go figure.

Unless you are black in America, you just wouldn't understand.
For those that want to quote crime statistics, ponder this.

Black kid gets caught with drugs, he's arrested and told to take a plea. That plea ends with a felony on his record and complete elimination from the ability to get any government backed scholarships for college.

This is the problem with Tim Cook; he tries to turn everything into a political issue for his own gain, where there is no issue. It's like his mind-numbing banging on about 'rights', whatever that means. They certainly mean absolutely nothing to Apple, any more than they do to any other company in America. When it comes to employment issues, there are no problems with discrimination in any of the categories that Cook continuously draws attention to. He is, therefore, hoisting his own agenda onto Apple unnecessarily. This is inappropriate for a CEO of any company, let alone Apple.

It is the most reprehensible aspect of Tim's leadership, and represents a deeply hypocritical stance, in view of Apple's highly questionable evasion of tax worldwide and their mercenary use of cheap labour in China. Steve Jobs did well to avoid the political route. I do not think that Tim Cook will be at Apple for much longer, as his insistence on using Apple as a political hobby horse will not be tolerated.

I have never worked in retail, but from what others say who have groups of unruly kids get kicked out of stores all the time.

But are they getting kicked out of stores before they've caused trouble, or because they look like trouble causers? that would be discrimination, otherwise it's not.
