I'm not gonna read through 300 comments, just felt interested for which glasses company is Mr. Cook doing ads these days?

Dave you are not wrong and I agree with all you say.

However, it would be good if Apple were to be far less evasive when it comes to not paying their fair share of taxes.

Here in the EU, they are active in Ireland and Luxembourg and avoiding (legally I am sure!) their fair share of tax - that impacts everyone and stops us having money for our public services.

Ordinary folk over here cannot get away with what Apple gets away with and clearly that has an impact on their top and bottom lines.

Yet Apple is the largest taxpayer in the world, providing more tax revenue to governments than any company in the world. And, can you name a specific example where Apple doesn't pay the tax revenue it owes in a country it operates in?

And, like most people you ignore the billions that are paid to local and national governments in the form of sales tax revenue by purchases. And the billions that are poured into countries economies by the direct and indirect employment of millions of people throughout the world. But again, please site a country where Apple does something different than every other company, i.e., pays the taxes it owes.

Free healthcare care? Not sure where you live but it’s not the United States.

My meds are dirt cheap as is my insurance because I have great benefits and Seattle has some of the best public transit in the country so I’ll keep enjoying it though

Another thing that you are missing, affordable education.

Most of the industrialised world has free or affordable healthcare.

By the way because of your social education of "all i care about is me" you dont get things like free/affordable healthcare or education. Which is funny too because you seem to think you are a corporation. Its the only way I would understand defending corporations which do absolutely nothing for you or your society.

Any who, I would like to apologise. Its not my right to force my "views" or rational views for that matter on to you. You are free to live and think how you like. My advice would be to think a little bit more about others than your self. It feels good inside too.

Unless your someone who doesn’t want their music distorted with beam forming.

That little midbass driver isn’t outputting real bass. Eq the hell out of something doesn’t improve the sound unless you speaker is lacking. Even then it probably does more harm than good.

I wholeheartedly agree but your barking up the wrong tree if you think you will change the minds of those who already purchased this overhyped so called smart speaker. Critique sometimes offends so it's best to let people enjoy what they already own. No harm done but also take heed to what Albert Camus believed...."The need to be right is the sign of a Vulgar Mind". Just sayin. :)

i hate to be one of the "if steve was here..." guy, and i believe apple have launched a lot of pretty good products in the recent years, but i just can't stand this guy repeating the same bs over and over again in every interview.

Steve or any other more straight forward person would've explained why stock price is important for a publicly traded company (cuz its true). And argued how a higher stock price helped the company to deliver better products. Or how the two goals doesn't have to go against each other. Instead of this phony crap "ya i don't care about the stock price i care about our users".

I remember jack ma of alibaba said something along the lines when people buy their stock, it means people believed he can spend the money better than they (individual shareholders) could, so that's a lot of responsibilities for him and the company to deliver good products and services.

Now that's inspiring. Again, not any of this phony bs.

As always, Cook says nothing.

If their priority would be products, they would not have had that many failed products (Mac Pro, latest Macbook Pro). You only started working on a new Mac PRo after many Pro users complained so much that Schiller had to come out and do an interview saying that Apple "still care" about their Pro users.

If their priority would be products, they would not have waited that long to upgrade the Mac mini, and the Mac Pro and the iMac.

If their priority would be people they would not have done what they did to the iPhone and cheated with the battery performance.

The only thing you care is not about innovation, products and users, but about making money with the iphones...

Sad...
The days of innovation at apple are long past. Now they are nothing but a lead from behind me-too product company. Rolling out a gimped-out Mono bluetooth speaker in 2018 is like selling excrement and calling it chocolate ice cream.

This video is a good example of why Cook should be ashamed of proclaiming everything they do is for the user. It was made by MacRumors.

Just watch how Siri utterly fails compared to the others, then remind yourself just how long it’s been now since Siri first launched, and how much money and how many resources Apple has available to improve Siri but hasn’t..

If the HomePod is excrement, then what does that make the other smart speakers like the amazon echo?

He is correct. Peter drucker 101. Customers first and profits follow.

another fluff article for Apple.

The Echo is less than 1/3 of the price of the homepod.

Wow, that video is painful to watch, in the year 2018 the fact Siri is so caveman, it's too shameful. It's so obvious it's a rushed product trying to catch up to the competition.

Yes utterly shameful. And don’t forget the Apple speaker costs double the Sonos, so you could have two Sonos speakers for stereo sound and Alexa.. It’s been pretty clear Apple has not really made much effort to improve Siri.

It makes the others actual ‘smart speakers’ and devices like the Echo years ahead, their is no point in a good sounding speaker with a poor AI system that costs a premium. Watch the video I posted.

Really Tim? Is that why we've gotten like 10 rushed updates of iOS 11 to fix horrible issues? I've never seen iOS so buggy in my life, it's AMAZING!
[doublepost=1519354641][/doublepost]
This is Grade A bologna! Tim Cook doesn’t care about users, or the products, he only cares about profits. Case in point...iOS 11 and the iPhone X. I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 4, and the iPhone X brings nothing exceptional or innovative to the table. The only thing it has going for it IMO is it’s form factor, and Apple should’ve made the near bezel-less display happen 2+ years ago. iOS 11 is garbage, point blank. I’ve never had an iPhone perform so closely to an Android in my life. It’s a disgrace and yet another reason Jobs is rolling in his grave...again. If they don’t get it together I might have to buy an Android this fall, which is my worst nightmare. The unchanged in 3+ years Mac Pro that Apple NEVER lowered their price on and was a rip off to begin with. Oh, and let’s not forget Jony “The Coat-tail Riding Hack” Ive and his “unapologetically plastic” iPhone. Apple has been on the same downward spiral that it was on from the 80’s to the late 90’s...only Jobs isn’t coming back this time ;) It’s just going to take longer for them to fail this time around. The profits you keep seeing are because they continue to charge more for less, simple really.

Just another data point. My iPhone 6S got nearly 2-day battery life initially in Sep-Oct 2015. By later that year I was down to 6 hours/day at best. Now I often get 75-80% drain after 3 hours of moderate usage, and that's after the battery replacement! iOS starting with 9.2 to 11.2.5 is a garbage fire.
[doublepost=1519354766][/doublepost]
I mostly agree with your sentiment. Though I think they're not even close to any form of demise. They've been flailing around a lot, but at least I see them attempting to make necessary adjustments. Those of us who are using products from the competition know the competition isn't that much farther ahead in all ways and is often a few steps behind by some measures.

Look, if Microsoft is kicking it at $706 billion market cap and record revenues after dying a 100 deaths, Apple's demise can't be too painful.

Agreed. Steve was more "real" and down-to-earth. Words cannot describe how much I miss him. He was freaking awesome. Apple is not that same without him. They just seem to limp along with no soul...

Has it occurred to anyone here that maybe, just maybe the things that reviewers and techy people complain about the HomePod sucking at are things that most users don’t care about anyways?

And the point that music playback is the most popular use of smart speakers shows that Apple did their homework before releasing the HomePod. They knew that this was the most common use case, and made that the standout feature of the HomePod.

Apple isn’t perfect, but they’re not stupid either.

Tim went a little over the top in this interview.
......
All one has to do is look at the increasingly visible position Angela Ahrendts is taking in the company. Her sole reason for being hired from fashion retailer Burberry was to push Apple as far into the luxury goods market as possible. Steve Jobs was always about the intersection of liberal arts and technology. Apple seems to be heading in a different direction now and the pursuit of maximum revenue has taken over from innovative product design.
Their commercial power is insane.
Every time I see her, I think "there goes my kidney..."

So your making an excuse that people who spend that much on a speaker advertised as being smart, this is from Apples page for it::

HomePod is a powerful speaker that sounds amazing and adapts to wherever it’s playing. It’s the ultimate music authority, bringing together Apple Music and Siri to learn your taste in music. It’s also an intelligent home assistant, capable of handling everyday tasks — and controlling your smart home

http://www.apple.com/uk/homepod/

Is that it’s users do not actually want an actual smart speaker??.... well people on here claim to have bought them and returned them and unless you are able to ask every single owner, that is nothing but an excuse for it’s poor Siri performance that you’ve made up.
I don’t use Siri since getting my Echo Dot because Alexa is years ahead of Siri, it actually understands everything I say and doesn’t just show some webpage links... it’s an actual assistant.

To claim Siri is doing all that people actually want it to do is to ignore it’s purpose in the first place, and ignore all of its competition in its market.

Some visions seem limited by own perspective, indeed.
Like the survey with 31% of 520 people that had a Home Speaker, 3% of which had an HomePod, that scored 89 % customer satisfaction (over all 5 of them). Surveyed over the internet, to ensure that they had the internet-savvy population. Commercially sponsored imbecility at best.

I am simply saying that not everything which can be measured matters, just as not everything which matters can be measured.

Time and time again, this forum sees people criticising Apple products for supposedly lagging behind in this area or that. Then sales go on to explode, proving that those complaints do not accurately reflect buyer sentiment as a whole. Either the gravity of the situation was grossly overstated, or it was never really an issue to begin with.

As a general rule of thumb, Apple products can be released at any time, as long as that ‘one’ headline feature is ready. For example, the iPod didn’t need that huge capacity of other models, it needed the touchwheel; iPhone didn’t need 3G, it needed that multitouch screen; HomePod doesn’t need a better Siri, it needs outstanding sound (which it does have).

Because Apple products are often about that headline feature, buyers are willing to either wait or completely forego anything else.

One thing is clear to me though - this device is the new Apple Watch. It’s going to be the tech media’s whipping boy for the next year or two while software is tweaked and functionality is broadened. Then suddenly there will be write-ups praising the HomePod for all the things it got criticized for on day one.

Like I said, constructive criticism is one thing. Wanting something you disagree with to be different is understandable. But a lot of what we see here is much more than that. A lot of what we see here is outright anger. Once it gets to that point I don’t see how it’s beneficial to that user to stick around. You’re just wallowing in your anger at that point (and bringing others down in the process at the same time) over something where all of the anger in the world from you is not going to change a thing about whatever is upsetting you.

There comes a point for someone who is really upset like that where they just need to move on to something else in life.
Have you heard how some apple fans respond on here? I can see how it goes both ways, some people can't take views that go against their own and apple can do no wrong.

The critics do seem to be having the worse track record overall though. Hard to take their words seriously when their criticism simply isn’t squaring up with reality.

Apple could stand to improve Siri. But I would buy the HomePod due to its integration with Apple Music. I don’t care if Alexa is “better”, HomePod imo is better than Sonos as a whole and to me worth the price.

To me, it really boils down to your streaming music of choice. If you are using Spotify, go with sonos. If you are using Apple Music, then the HomePod it is. Anything else is sheer icing on the cake.
