Same here but if that be the case they are making a few too many mistakes (releasing products before they are ready for the market, that iPhone slowing down fiasco and battery issue etc. etc.) and imho catering to the BOD and Shareholders. Greed in my mind is NOT good.

"Sometimes Apple takes the lead, introducing unique features-Face ID, for instance."

Wasn't Windows 10 doing login via face with Windows Hello long before the iPhone X?
Not really. Which Windows machines do you think were doing 3D depth mapping of facial features?

The Xbox 360 with Kinect was doing advanced mapping, that is what has eventually lead to Windows Hello. They have in a way, and more so with Apples tech, shrunk the Microsoft Kinect to make face recognition work.

Haha, I can't stop smiling about that quote xD
What really disappoints me is that they were way better at lying to their loyal customers in the past.

Does Tim not know that he is sounding quite sarcastic here? After all, he just released a half baked product days ago 0_o

So pathetic :/

Wow! I didn’t see that comment by him?

It’s a perfect example of the arrogance portrayed by Apple to its markets and customers now. I’ve never had more bugs in my mobile devices till iOS 11 and Watch OS 4.. it says it all when Leaks suggest Apple will concentrate of all its bugs in iOS 12 instead of new features, which is something it said before about another iOS version..

And as for Siri, not sure how many years it’s been out now and it seems to be just the same now as day one. Way way behind the competition.

Okay, I'm a longtime Apple user (is 1984 early enough?) and own lots of Apple products. However, when Tim Cook answers a question framed on the HomePod by saying,

"What we have that I think is unique is patience. We have patience to wait until something is great before we ship it."

Unfortunately, this tells you only one thing, Tim is completely out of touch with some of Apple's own products.

The HomePod hardware seems nice, but the software and the HomePod services themselves are completely third rate and well behind all of the competition. I say this even though I purchased a HomePod and while it is a nice looking and nice sounding small speaker that is pretty much all that it is after what seems to have been a rushed software release.

Will the software and services get better over the next year? One would certainly hope, but frankly after seeing what Apple has done (or NOT done) after ten years with the AppleTV I'm kind of thinking that the HomePod is yet another "hobby" product from Apple. Actually, that's kind of disservice to the AppleTV, since I think the AppleTV has always been a decent product (although it has never really fulfilled it full potential).

But, certainly the HomePod has potential (thankfully), but I think what Apple really needs is to put more effort into back-to-the-basics software development rather than into yet another image statement from top management.

This is exactly right. Apple’s FaceID is like the Kinect shrunk to a small size.

I don't get the hype on the homepod. Can't you replicate the same thing with an iPhone dock/ speaker system? Heck carry your iPhone around and bluetooth it wirelessly to a good bluetooth speaker.

I get the impression that Apple is good at convincing people to buy new products that do the pretty much the same thing, just a different way.

If you don't understand how the underlying HomePod technology (sophisticated adaptive beamforming signal processing driving a 7 element speaker, and 6 element microphone array, with automatic self-equalization) works and drives outstanding audio quality, then I understand how you believe it's just another speaker.

If you would take the time to dig a little deeper, you might understand the true technological breakthrough HomePod represents, especially for a well-priced piece of consumer gear.

Can you please provide a credible source for both of these statements? I would be interested in reading how you Definitively know this.
In business it’s always about profit. Anything else that is said is strictly PR. Notice how Apple is always preaching about human rights but then has no problem doing business in those places. Always about money.

Are you denying that Apple hasn’t seen massive growth? Let’s see.

HomePod-doesn’t work as we were told it would. No linking 2 together.

Throttling phones on the sly. Got caught. Go into pr mode

iOS 11-buggiest iOS in a long time.

Pulling features at record levels due to them not being ready. But they told us here they are.

Or maybe. Just maybe. Tim is lying. It’s all about profit. Any thing else that he is is pure bs. Apple has been on quite the pr run lately. That says more than any article and interview

Mr. Cook is lying? That's quite an accusation. Step up to the plate and present your proof. If you can't, you're committing libel, assassinating his character and damaging his reputation.

Unless your someone who doesn’t want their music distorted with beam forming.

That little midbass driver isn’t outputting real bass. Eq the hell out of something doesn’t improve the sound unless you speaker is lacking. Even then it probably does more harm than good.

Since you clearly have a HomePod, please speak to the distortion you have experienced.

Do you know how beamforming works and the underlying signal processing that drives it?

Ha ha. See above.

He’s free to sue me if he wants. I’ll be waiting. He has no character. Damaging his reputation, he has done a good job of that by himself.

He does what’s good for business nothing else.

Got it. Accuse someone of being a liar. And present no proof.

Speaking of character, I think that speaks volumes about the accuser who refuses to present proof to support the claim.

Sorry to jump in here but i have had the HomePod since it came out and audio wise it is brilliant, i have not encountered distortion at all when listening to music.

And your tinted glasses show here on a daily basis. When you announce a feature and then can’t deliver. That’s a lie.

Distorting in the fact that your changing the sound of the musicians music

I believe that Tim Cook is experiencing a humongous disconnect. Apple has been rushing software products out the door since Yosemite and due to this fact Apple has more bugs and malfunctions in their software than ever before.

Every year a new macOS, iOS. All developers and reviewers agree that Apple's software which used to "Just Work" now "Just Doesn't Work".

And then Tim Cook states that they don't rush anything and care about quality. That aint even a lie it is a total disconnect in his ability to grasp what is going on. I honestly believe that Tim Cook believes what he states which goes to prove that he doesn't use macOS and only use iOS to browse the news...

WOW !!!

Dear Tim,

I so wish the things you said were true... But as I sat on the plane last week with a lap full of dongles and work-arounds for all of the customer focused decisions your teams have made to ruin my experience with my new X, I know it's just not the case.

There is always hope.

Then why buy the products? So you chose to buy the device and then you chose to use dongles when you don't have to. There are wireless options for everything. Sounds like a personal problem to me.

In your opinion. Mine and others is he’s lying.

I wouldn't say that he's lying, i would say that they had the intention of releasing those features which is why the HomePod was delayed but then maybe hit problems and needed to delay again better that than release without it being ready. Those features for the HomePod will come at a later date so it wasn't a lie.

And...FCC certification took longer than expected, accounting for the release delay into February. Also, AirPlay 2 was not ready for prime time, thus the delay of stereo and multi-room capability.

Imagine the uproar and outrage if those features were released when not ready and people encountered problems using them. That would have been worthy of a 500 post thread on MR.
