I would say apple is focused on how to aligned their products with people's needs. Because if they really cared about people the would be paying all their taxes which go to fighter fighters, police departments, street maintenance, etc. you know things people need and use.

They pay something around $16 Billion in federal taxes, the highest out of any corporate entity in the United States. But don't let facts get in the way of your logical fallacy.

They did have a problem with releasing Maps half-baked — Forestall got fired, they apologized to you and everyone else for doing so, and then vastly improved on it for years until it became as great as it is today.

LOL. Great? Not really. They new maps sucked and released it anyway. What’s the excuse for Siri?

Dear Tim,

I so wish the things you said were true... But as I sat on the plane last week with a lap full of dongles and work-arounds for all of the customer focused decisions your teams have made to ruin my experience with my new X, I know it's just not the case.

There is always hope.

What on earth are you doing with "a lap full of dongles" on a plane with your phone?

Yes, right after yet another record-breaking holiday quarter. hahaha

So record profits make Apple cool? Funny at one time hard core Apple fans would have considered that the establishment and wanted no part of it. Remember IBM and Microsoft?

Maps works GREAT for me, I use it all the time nowadays. If you have problems with it, that's your issue but by any reasonable metric, it's far and above what it started off as.

I don't have a lot of problems with Siri. I use it for what I know works well with it, on a regular basis, and hence don't have many complaints. I also know this technology is in its infancy across the board, and there's a lot of room for growth. I expect that Apple is fully aware of deficiencies in this space and are actively working on it.

I don't have any good reason to complain about things that happened 6 years ago. YMMV.

It means they're selling a metric crapton of iPhones, iPads, Watches, Macs, so forth. You think those kinds of sales would happen if they were largely NOT perceived as "cool"? What kind of metric do you look at outside of the cast of whiners in these forums?

I said Apple has released half baked products before and gave two big examples. You feel the need to defend.

This is Grade A bologna! Tim Cook doesn’t care about users, or the products, he only cares about profits. Case in point...iOS 11 and the iPhone X. I’ve had every iPhone since the iPhone 4, and the iPhone X brings nothing exceptional or innovative to the table. The only thing it has going for it IMO is it’s form factor, and Apple should’ve made the near bezel-less display happen 2+ years ago. iOS 11 is garbage, point blank. I’ve never had an iPhone perform so closely to an Android in my life. It’s a disgrace and yet another reason Jobs is rolling in his grave...again.

Weird, my iPhone X running iOS 11 is by far the best experience I've ever had in ten years of iPhones. ¯\(°_o)/¯

Yes, the obvious demise of the most successful company in the world at its highest point.

Maybe so.

A rocket will still climb after cutting the fuel... Once it starts coming down, though, it's very difficult to start back up again.

Apple have cut the fuel lately and are riding largely on momentum from prior success. I hope they fire it back up and get their act together.

Like? We LOVE Apple - that’s why we’re in so much pain watching its obvious demise. You either can’t see it, don’t actually care about it like we do, or you just don’t understand.
I mostly agree with your sentiment. Though I think they're not even close to any form of demise. They've been flailing around a lot, but at least I see them attempting to make necessary adjustments. Those of us who are using products from the competition know the competition isn't that much farther ahead in all ways and is often a few steps behind by some measures.

Yeah, same here. Absolutely zero issues, it's fast, plays well with other Apple devices, and I enjoy using it everyday.

I realize stating that on this particular forum will instantly sink my "forum cred" index down into negative numbers.

Maybe saying something bad about TC will at least get me back up into positive territory?

And what metric are you using to determine that they've "cut the fuel"? That seems specious.

I would have preferred to own a Mac in the 90s but needed a PC for compatibility. What was great in the 80s was that there was such a variety of computers available. Not just Apple and IBM but also Atari, Commodore, TI, Sinclair, etc. But by the time the 90s came it seemed like everything had shifted to Wintel.
True.

Between MS kick ass marketing of Windows 95, and the pre-Jobs mishandling of Apple, the Macintosh almost when the way of the other computers you mentioned.

Lying Tim Cook states in the interview

" A person who is just looking at the company's revenues and profits, says Cook, might think that Apple "is good at making money." But he says "that's not who we are. In Cook's view, Apple is:We're a group of people who are trying to change the world for the better, that's who we are. For us, technology is a background thing.

I wish Macrumors would be a bit more independent. For some reason it just doesn't report items that might put Tim Cook in a negative light. Almost like fox news for Trump! Yes admins, it has become the fox news of Apple!

funny how Macrumors isn't running a story on reports coming from Nikkei Asian Review. That Samsung is most likely reducing production because Iphone X demand is down but Tim Cook has still been able to achieve increasing revenue. He made the the call that if they he can increase net income by selling fewer phones but jacking up the unit price. It's like he is testing how high he can raise it while he laughs at all of us. Does that sound like changing the world?

And Apple Watch, there is a reason there is such a premium on it and positioned it as a fashion product. Tim Cook didn't position it as a health product or to give connivance to Iphone users, it was positioned as a high end fashion accessory to play to people's emotion and to position it as a status symbol. If you can't afford it, go to andriod. 10k Gold Apple watch ring able to denailists?

And what metric are you using to determine that they've "cut the fuel"? That seems specious.

The endless quality control issues and seeming lack of effort they're putting into their products.

They can't be bothered to update half their products in a timely manner (Mac Mini going on 4 years now and 4 generation-old hardware, no USB-C/TB3, etc), questionable software changes riddled with bugs, the CPU throttling fiasco, etc.

It's to the point where many of the most adamant Apple users question their future with Apple. Most people just buy it because it's what they are familiar with, they're tied into the ecosystem, or it's what they're friends/family use. If people start moving away from Apple, it will happen like a domino effect.

I'm from the UK and do agree that they should pay any taxes that they owe, my overall point here is that Tim Cook often gets a lot of negative comments from people on not only this forum but in general and i personally think he's doing a great job, it's easy to sit here and be a keyboard warrior but actually being the CEO and doing the daily work that Cook does isn't easy far from it, i do believe that Apple have the consumer in mind and that they love what they do, no one would work all those hours and put in that much effort if they didn't.

That's not to say tho that Apple don't make mistakes of course they do, software mistakes have been made lately but that doesn't mean "Apple is doomed" or "Tim Cook should be fired" Apple is on top of it's game and i only see it being so for a VERY long time especially under Tim Cook.
I don’t think people are saying Apple is doomed or that Tim Cook should be fired (well, maybe some are calling for his head), but many of his public statements are absurd. Apple is very much in it for the profits, which is why they have like a 30% margin on most products. And if they really cared about enriching people’s lives (and other gobbledygook), their devices would be more affordable (i.e., they’d forego some of that profit margin) so they’d get into the hands of as many possible people.

I love and am a loyal Apple customer and think Cook has brought in a bunch of money and done some good things; I just think he is full of a word that rhymes with spit and a virtue signaler on all things.

Holy Smokes! Why wait? And why on Earth haven't you switched with such a large laundry list of issues?

Simply switch to another manufacturer who you believe doesn't have an endless list of quality control issues, manufactures better hardware with more timely updates, does not have questionable software changes with bugs, etc. And find happiness. Vote with your wallet.

Easy.

Yeah easy, except there's really only one alternative and it's a data company. ;)

Why can't we just hold Apple to reasonable standards? The same standards it used to hold itself to. That's what made us rather loyal customers in the first place.

My MacBook Pro won't be replaced by an Apple laptop, though, and my desktop isn't Apple. It's only the phone I don't really know what to do with. I just wish Apple would fix iOS and make it run well again but they can't seem to be bothered to. My old iPhone 4S runs way better than my 6. No intention of getting an iPad or Apple Watch/TV.

So how's that been working for ya? And how many more years are you willing to wait?

If I had such a huge list of issues and complaints I would have switched years ago. Why stay loyal to a company willingly opening your wallet and giving them your dollars (or other currency), that's not meeting your needs?

Life is short. Take action.

It's not like I've put any more money into it. Haven't purchased an Apple product since my iPhone 6 a couple years ago.

It was great when I bought it. I can't afford to run out and buy a new phone just because Apple permanently ruined it. It's still a great form factor, and the hardware is fine... it's just the software that's now abysmally slow -- even typing can be laggy. And that's on iOS 10... 11 brought it to a halt. If I were on that, I'd have to replace it, which is sad because it's still a perfectly fine device if you don't cripple it with poor software.

I run Windows and Linux on my MBP 17", which both run beautifully on it... sometimes I use El Capitan when I need to prolong the battery life but it runs poorly so mostly for reading reference material.

Hmm that last comment quoted in this story is bogus, if Apple was so clever and started work in things years in advance, it wouldn’t be buying all these other companies t ch and ideas it uses in products.

And no Cook, the iPhone want the first ‘modern’ device. Not sure about Apple Watch but again I believe it wasn’t the first ‘modern’ one..

And if Apple wasn’t in it for the shareholders... it wouldn’t be deliberately avoiding paying the majority of tax it owes on earnings outside the US, laundering money through fictional offices in Ireland paying 0.005% is about as big an example of ‘doing it for the money and shareholders’ as you can get, I mean pleople on here defend Apples tax dodging by proclaiming its first responsibility is to the shareholders.
