Tim Cook Says Apple is 'Very Committed' to the Mac and to 'Stay Tuned'

I hope they don't get rid of the headphone jacks in all new macs, cuz you know, they have courage.

I literally laughed out loud when I read that. Needed the laugh, thanks!

But the "stay tuned" in Tim Cook's message does have me worried. In the past 20 years I've gone from eagerly awaiting announcements about software updates and new hardware, to being concerned and wondering what they're going to get rid of or make less user-friendly next?

He may say stay tuned, but it is odd that Apple are so slow at updating the Mac lineup. It's not like they are some small scale company that can't afford to have 1000's of people working on each product. It's like they treat the Mac line up as a bit of a fashion item like the iPhone and Watch. They forget there are people that use it for productivity and work and could do with updated specs. A lot of buyers aren't really bothered about a fancy casing that has some nine point anodization and polishing process!!

I mean, duh? They JUST announced a bunch of iWork improvements - of course they're not pulling away from the Mac. Computers just aren't on the same upgrade schedule as phones and tablets.
iWorks! Yeah, that's pure computing excitement, front page news on the New York Times!

Apple should at least bring out new computers more frequently than the IRS depreciation schedule.

It's the same after every iDevice event. Because Apple makes seperate events for each category, people think that they have abandonned the other category if they don't talk about it. " What , no mac announced ?? that's it, they're abandonning the mac !!!"

Tim should just remind everyone, at the beginning of every event and say something like :
"Today's event is all about iDevices, we'll have more announcements about the Mac in a forthcoming event".
"Today's event is all about the Mac, we'll have more announcements about iDevices in a forthcoming event"

I have a tough time imagining this is real. What kind of moron would ask this question in the first place? Or rather, who would expect anything different in that reply?

You really think Tim would respond personally to a message he didn't think was real? He knew other eyes would see this email.

Come on, I want to sell my MacBook Air and buy a new Pro when they come out. If they came out already I would have ordered one.

But winter is coming and tires for my truck cost more than a new MacBook Pro 13" :D

But, who cares how long it’s been? My Late 2013 MBP runs great. Even being a power user, I have no need for a faster CPU or GPU (I don’t game). And looking at Geekbench scores, the entire Mac lineup fares very well against competition. Sure, there are some faster scores, but Windows. Really? Windows. I’m just curious what people are doing where they find the currently available Mac systems inadequate.

If you want to argue cost, I concede that’s a valid gripe. 3 year old hardware with no price reductions. However, I’m willing to bet that too will change, based on what we say this week (Apple Watch Series 1 still available, upgraded, at a lower price point, and iPhone 6s/s+, upgraded, at a lower price point).

Really, I think people just get off on bitching.

To be fair, the blame can be placed at Intel's feet. IIRC, macs still run on Haswells? Broadwell was badly fumbled, and Skylake was released last year. Which really isn't the new hotness anymore, since Kaby Lake is now rolling out. Intel also took their time getting TB3 out the door, which didn't happen until very recently.

You're underestimating the huge R&D needs for watchbands.
