Apple has, what, 90,000 developers writing programs for everything from Mac Pros through MacBooks to iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and iPod Touches. Overwhelmingly they write those apps on Macs using Xcode and Swift. There is no way in hell that Apple is going to abandon their developers, so they will _always_ develop better and faster Macs. Not only for the developers but for all the professionals, writers, artists, designers and everyone else who relies on Macintoshes for their livelihoods. Every Apple device is getting more powerful every year, their graphics and audio get more powerful and the developers need even more powerful devices to develop apps and all the visual and audio data that constitute advanced apps. There is no way Apple is ever going to reduce the power of its Macintosh computers, unless it creates something even more powerful.

Aside from the iPhone and Apple Watch, I can't think of any other hardware release that Apple hasn't been late -- and sometimes very late on.

It makes you wonder what else they are up to that is draining so many resources. I hope they know what they're doing.

Mac Update Changes:
1) No more headphone jack (see 2)
2) Cloud storage only so no more IO ports
3) All peripherals bluetooth (see 2)
4) Improved Emojis
5) Better social media integration
6) Bigger built in speakers (really tiny to tiny)
7) Emphasis on thinner more "oh wow" fashion looks (e.g. polka dot Mac Pro anyone)
8) Completely closed architecture with no serviceable parts/upgrades (like i devices)
9) No more preloaded apps, all apps stored on cloud only
10) Remotely controllable off/on and security bypass (for reasons of national security)
11) Monthly dues for external access (see 2 and 9)
12) Helpful Wizards (male or female!!!)
13) More expensive (somebody has to pay for all the innovation)

Because he’s not a Millennial. That’s how adults were taught to type.

Makes me want to send him a copy of this book.

Of course they care. If they didn't I'd be very surprised. I work in marketing and every agency I go to, including Google, all use Macs. Even if they don't bring huge profits or have the sales volume of iPhone, they are an integral part of dominating the industry.

Apple started as a computer company (I think anyway!) and need to remain close to that core. Mac buyers are probably more loyal, affluent and likely to buy accessories and other Apple products.

Actually, the Mac products bring about the same revenue as the iPad products, even though they seem 2x as many iPads. So, the Macs have good margin and continue to be a profit center for Apple. Even if it was break-even or a slight loss (which it isn't), they would still make them, since they are required to develop applications for iOS devices.

As about a confident as a reply as, "No, not because of you" to a child worried their parents are divorcing.

P.S. Tim should stop with the one-line responses, sounds snarky.

The reality is that the whole PC industry is down. And while Apple seems to be bucking that trend, it still only accounts for just a fraction of their revenue. It would be foolish for any company to put in a disproportionate amount of resources to a part of the business that doesn't bring in revenue. Shareholders would be up in arms. Apple lives off of the iPhone, plain and simple and they (rightly or not) are putting their resources in that. Is the solution then to hire more engineers and designers to work on Mac hardware? Perhaps but then again, that means that Apple is putting in more resources into a segment that doesn't have the biggest returns.

Does this mean the death of the Mac? No. I think we still have about 10-15 years left of macOS and Mac hardware before a paradigm shift happens in the entire industry where a conventional PC is no longer relevant.

It's not ideal, I get it. I'm just pointing out the reality of Apple's situation.

But, who cares how long it’s been? My Late 2013 MBP runs great. Even being a power user, I have no need for a faster CPU or GPU (I don’t game). And looking at Geekbench scores, the entire Mac lineup fares very well against competition. Sure, there are some faster scores, but Windows. Really? Windows. I’m just curious what people are doing where they find the currently available Mac systems inadequate. If you want to argue cost, I concede that’s a valid gripe. 3 year old hardware with no price reductions. However, I’m willing to bet that too will change, based on what we say this week (Apple Watch Series 1 still available, upgraded, at a lower price point, and iPhone 6s/s+, upgraded, at a lower price point). Really, I think people just get off on bitching.

This sums up everything on my mind as well. Thank you.

Hey, is there a brain tumor class action lawsuit in the future over forcing an entire populace into wireless headphones? I mean, what is the danger in having a receiver right at your ear for most of the day, right? Move along, nothing to see here.

And hey, when is that iChip brain implant coming out?

Enquiring minds and all....

Why even ask the question? What did this person expect him to say?

Okay, I don't see the "Tongue in Cheek" tag applied, but I'm pretty sure it's being used.
