I dont like; no mini-jack, the new usb and touch display ect.

Im going to buy the current model when it goes on sale in the local store, when the new models are released :)

2017 will be very interesting for me. I bought the 2013 27" iMac literally when it came out. My plan is to have it for 4 years(fall 2017) and then decide whether I will buy a new iMac. If MS can blow me away with their upcoming 27" Surface AIO that may change my purchase decision next fall.

Thing is I run W10 Pro in a Parallels VM and it's good. I do like having access to OS X because I use iPhone and I can use Carbon Copy cloner, iMessage and Facetime for calls. So it's like the best of both worlds.

Also why is this site called MacRumors? Surely it should be renamed to Apple Rumors considering iPhone/iPad represents far more revenue than Macs...

I'm all about the best of both worlds. I'm betting that come next fall, the best of both worlds will still be the best option.

Our own Mac Buyer's Guide shows that it has been 479 days since the MacBook Pro was last updated, while the MacBook Air has not been refreshed in 550 days. Similarly, the Mac mini has not been refreshed in 694 days, while the Mac Pro is five days shy of 1000 days since its last update. iMacs stand at 332 days.

It's worth mentioning that the 13" MBP is 540 days old. For people like me who like to click back and read the old refreshes of products on the Buyer's Guide, I think it's also significant/interesting that the 13" was introduced in October 2012 and only went 113 days before its update along with the 15" in February of 2013.

Hopefully it's not another staggered release this year which would mess up the numbers even more!

This is where MS blowing it on mobile really costs them. I didn't buy the iMac in 2013 to use OS X. But because I got the iPhone in 2015 suddenly OS X became important because of Continuity. That's how forward-thinking Apple is and I'm not sure that a Surface desktop will make any difference because Windows Mobile is nowhere.

These days it's about unification between mobile + desktop and Apple has it covered. Google is also nowhere because Chrome OS is not a real desktop OS and MS doesn't have mobile at all.

Yet the most expensive Mac, Mac Pro, is getting the least amount of love.

The Mac Pro was never going to be a mainstream computer so it was never going to sell in huge numbers to begin with. However, if they can make a Luxury class iMac in colors then they have something to sell to those who buy the high end watches and laptops they make. It wont matter that it wont sell as well as the current high end (which would become the midrange). They will be able to say the iMac can do this and that and how fast it is without mentioning that you must pay a huge sum to own one. Their macbooks are turning into luxury brands just as much as the iPhone has (on the high end). They will probably go in this direction with any new iMac redesign.

Fair enough, but I have the nMB and an adapter that allows me to do just that. It seems like a lot of handwringing because someone wants ports in the machine versus on a dongle.

When I last looked at this it was something like only the second nMB could do 4k @60hz but the OS needed patched, or maybe it was something to do being the right gen of USB-C. Then for the dongles I think its possible to use HDMI and power with a certain combination, but no way to get power and display port (which is needed for 4k). Sorry its been ages since I looked into this so probably not clear on the details, anyway the result was I totally skipped that model.

I really hope that Apple doesn't ditch the user-upgradable RAM. I was able to upgrade from 16 to 32GB in literally minutes. If you are forced to take it to an Apple store to get RAM upgraded or even worse iMacs are designed with RAM literally soldered to the logic board like iOS devices.... Don't get me started.

At this point it has been so long that I'd just rather them wait for Cannonlake, at least for the iMac. But hopefully they at least have Kaby Lake. And in my dreams they have a 8-16 core A-series Fusion processors running at higher clocks, manufactured by Intel with their new ARM fab process with a special Intel instruction set for easy emulation of x86 apps. In this fantasy, macOS would be able to run iPhone apps as little widgets and full-blown professional apps can get universal binaries between the Mac and iPad Pro with UIs that adjust to the input method on each platform.

Right - all the software houses will just rewrite all of they code to run on an ARM.

I remember the days before Intel - not going back to that.

I mean, duh? They JUST announced a bunch of iWork improvements - of course they're not pulling away from the Mac. Computers just aren't on the same upgrade schedule as phones and tablets.
For Apple. But way more often for companies that are trying to be bleeding edge.

iWork is not a difference maker considering what a smash hit Office 2016 for Mac is right now. Even Apple fans tell me how much they love Office 2016.

I hope they don't get rid of the headphone jacks in all new macs, cuz you know, they have courage.

They are removing the keyboard in order to make it thinner. You will still have access to the touchpad (now with a taptic engine) and Siri. What more do you need?

Regardless of whether or not you think it's mainstream, professionals/power users need current hardware in their workstations with room to expand/upgrade, and they're willing to spend a lot of money to get it. Posts like this completely miss the reason there is a Mac Pro to begin with.

The 5K iMac is a great Mac and excellent value with the 5K display built-in, I love mine. But an updated Mac Pro + Apple 5K display would be an absolutely killer combo.

The real question, will the new macs come with a lightning port? Or do I need an adapter for my lightning headphones?

I'm calling bull. Just because you put an OLED touch sensor above the keyboard doesn't mean you're innovating. Give me that 17" retina POWERHOUSE to crush video renders on client-sites and in the middle of places I can't drag external monitors and the trashcans. When you do that, THEN I'll "stay tuned". "Can't innovate my ass" was a one-line joke, but it's turned into a reality.

I wonder if they will revamp the stand-alone Apple keyboard to have the OLED touch strip as well? Why should iMac users be left out in the cold?

And I have no problems with people who complain that they legitimately have a need that Apple isn't filling. The nMB was perfect for me because I need a portable machine and have no need to connect it to an external display.

I do get frustrated when they complain about a product that clearly wasn't made for them. It's like me complaining that Barney and Friends is boring and irritating. Well, it wasn't made for me and it works perfectly well for who it was intended for.

For people who need to work on 4K monitors, is a nMB the right choice? Anything that needs that resolution is going to require more CPU ability anyway.

I am actually quite surprised that people haven't taken up my challenge to explain why they need new machines, other than they don't like paying for older technology, even when it is just as capable.
