I'm all about the best of both worlds. I'm betting that come next fall, the best of both worlds will still be the best option.2017 will be very interesting for me. I bought the 2013 27" iMac literally when it came out. My plan is to have it for 4 years(fall 2017) and then decide whether I will buy a new iMac. If MS can blow me away with their upcoming 27" Surface AIO that may change my purchase decision next fall.
Thing is I run W10 Pro in a Parallels VM and it's good. I do like having access to OS X because I use iPhone and I can use Carbon Copy cloner, iMessage and Facetime for calls. So it's like the best of both worlds.
Our own Mac Buyer's Guide shows that it has been 479 days since the MacBook Pro was last updated, while the MacBook Air has not been refreshed in 550 days. Similarly, the Mac mini has not been refreshed in 694 days, while the Mac Pro is five days shy of 1000 days since its last update. iMacs stand at 332 days.

Jony Ive is scratching his head trying to imagine how to make this tube thinner.I look at the ancient Mac Pro... yup, sure seems like a priority to me Tim!
Yet the most expensive Mac, Mac Pro, is getting the least amount of love.
Fair enough, but I have the nMB and an adapter that allows me to do just that. It seems like a lot of handwringing because someone wants ports in the machine versus on a dongle.
At this point it has been so long that I'd just rather them wait for Cannonlake, at least for the iMac. But hopefully they at least have Kaby Lake. And in my dreams they have a 8-16 core A-series Fusion processors running at higher clocks, manufactured by Intel with their new ARM fab process with a special Intel instruction set for easy emulation of x86 apps. In this fantasy, macOS would be able to run iPhone apps as little widgets and full-blown professional apps can get universal binaries between the Mac and iPad Pro with UIs that adjust to the input method on each platform.
For Apple. But way more often for companies that are trying to be bleeding edge.I mean, duh? They JUST announced a bunch of iWork improvements - of course they're not pulling away from the Mac. Computers just aren't on the same upgrade schedule as phones and tablets.
I hope they don't get rid of the headphone jacks in all new macs, cuz you know, they have courage.
Regardless of whether or not you think it's mainstream, professionals/power users need current hardware in their workstations with room to expand/upgrade, and they're willing to spend a lot of money to get it. Posts like this completely miss the reason there is a Mac Pro to begin with. The Mac Pro was never going to be a mainstream computer so it was never going to sell in huge numbers to begin with. However, if they can make a Luxury class iMac in colors then they have something to sell to those who buy the high end watches and laptops they make. It wont matter that it wont sell as well as the current high end (which would become the midrange). They will be able to say the iMac can do this and that and how fast it is without mentioning that you must pay a huge sum to own one. Their macbooks are turning into luxury brands just as much as the iPhone has (on the high end). They will probably go in this direction with any new iMac redesign.
I've BEEN tuned! Where have YOU been?
They will come with a new 3.5mm -> Lightning adapter. The real question, will the new macs come with a lightning port? Or do I need an adapter for my lightning headphones?
When I last looked at this it was something like only the second nMB could do 4k @60hz but the OS needed patched, or maybe it was something to do being the right gen of USB-C. Then for the dongles I think its possible to use HDMI and power with a certain combination, but no way to get power and display port (which is needed for 4k). Sorry its been ages since I looked into this so probably not clear on the details, anyway the result was I totally skipped that model.
