They are removing the keyboard in order to make it thinner. You will still have access to the touchpad (now with a taptic engine) and Siri. What more do you need?

You forgot the removal of all ports except one USB-C port, Apple has the courage to go wireless on this as well.

For people that insist on physically typing and not relying on Siri for text dictation you can purchase an Apple Bluetooth keyboard or use the included USB-C to USB-A dongle/adapter.
No displayport but want to add an external monitor? Just purchase an Apple TV so you can wirelessly connect to the external monitor, its so effortless and easy. o_O

:apple: = Courage

Well of course he's going to say that. he'd be committing product suicide if he said that the Mac was not important to Apple. People would leave the platform in droves.

I'm not saying Apple is or isn't committed, but obviously he's not going to give any details other then saying they're committed
Maybe there is a generational shift on the way for Mac. Something big.

With the delays between updates getting longer yet again, I am starting to wonder if the long-rumored (and usually laughed at) architecture switch of the Mac to the Ax chips is actually going to happen.

Just eradicate spinning hard drives from the Mac line, Tim.

That is the kind of "Courage" we are looking for Tim, getting rid of the "ancient", retarded and under-performing technology of spinning disks instead of the benign headphone jack!

The 5K iMac is a great Mac and excellent value with the 5K display built-in, I love mine. But an updated Mac Pro + Apple 5K display would be an absolutely killer combo.
It won't be long the high end iMac will have moved past quad core to 6, 8 or 10 core processors. Just look at Intel's i7 6800K to 6950X, or the new lower power Xeon variants. Once that happens is the Mac Pro going to stay relevant as it is currently designed? Even if it has an updated processor and graphics cards?

Around here Pro hardware means dual-socket, and a rack mountable option. I don't mind the Mac Pro as designed, but Apple needs to update it with modern hardware, dual-sockets, and multiple M.2 slots. Just my 2 cents.

If they do that, they might as well ditch the whole line altogether. But they won't.

I just hope they'll still have MagSafe and not USB-C charging.

The real question, will the new macs come with a lightning port? Or do I need an adapter for my lightning headphones?
You'll need AirPods for as low as $159. We'll get a single USB-C port and that's enough I heard.

If Cook cared about the Mac line (truly with all his heart), he wouldn't have the 21.5 inch fitted with a 5400 RPM laptop hard drive, he wouldn't have accepted the complete neutering of the Mac Mini, and he would push for a refreshed Mac Pro (and also one that can actually fit more than two drives).

Magsafe doesn't work on super light machines. Even if you put magsafe on the nMB you would pull it off your desk before it came out. If the MacBook Pros and Airs are heavy enough, they will likely still have them.

Here's what we'll get: One nice update this fall ... on some but maybe not all macs ... and then another couple years of crickets.

OMG will you get over this? If you aren't a total imbecile you would never buy it configured that way. This has to be the most over used trope it the world. Even worse than is Safari snappier.

The other two... well you've got a point

I literally laughed out loud when I read that. Needed the laugh, thanks!

But the "stay tuned" in Tim Cook's message does have me worried. In the past 20 years I've gone from eagerly awaiting announcements about software updates and new hardware, to being concerned and wondering what they're going to get rid of or make less user-friendly next?
I asked Siri how long I should wait with 'Stay tuned'. Interesting question

(Tim Cook is eating lunch, he is watching Eddy cue, who is dancing for some ladies to background music in the cafeteria courtyard, of the Apple Campus.

Phil walks by...)

Phil: Tim, the iPhone 7 numbers....

Tim: Ya ya, Phil, whatever. Listen, I received an email....someone thinks we've abandoned the Mac again.

Phil: Well that was what I thought....

Tim: Shhhhh! Damnit Phil! Just...just go find Jonny, tell him to take a port off the iMac...USB.....or Ethernet maybe. Something crazy. Add a gold color....maybe...I don't know.....he'll know what to do. Just get me something...I don't care what it is. Make one of those videos too. Make sure you don't get too involved with specs. It just needs to look cool and be pointlessly thin.

Phil: Okay, when Jonny gets back from his fashion show next week...

Tim: Jesus, Phil. Just get it done. .....(whispering and leaning in) I told him to stay tuned......you know......the pipeline.

Phil: But, the pipeline isn't real.

Tim: (slams his hands on the table) Sometimes Phil, its like you don't even understand what we are doing here!
Between you and Ricky Ricardo over there....it's amazing this company runs at all.

Dr. Dre (at the next table): Word Boss Man......Word.

Why is Apple even selling the 21.5" iMac with 5400rpm drive?

I hope they don't get rid of the headphone jacks in all new macs, cuz you know, they have courage.

I think the writing is on the wall for all headphone jacks. Tim will probably say just like with the iPhone 7, we decided to move forward with our MacBooks and eliminate the headphone jack in favor of USB-C. Maybe they'll include an adapter? Yeah, 2016 will be known as the year Apple killed the jack.

Actions speak louder than words, Tim!

So far, you've:
- taken talent from the Mac team to put towards the iOS team (without seemingly replacing them)
- lost many of the core contributors to vital components of OS X / macOS
- have gotten sloppy with many of the apps and UX/UI aspects of OS X / macOS (this applies to iOS as well, so seems to be a new Apple problem)
- haven't updated the hardware on a regular basis (yes, some of the tech has slowed, but the updates to Macs have slowed well beyond this)
- have gotten rid of, or have poorly thought through the higher 'Pro' end of the product lines (as more 'non-pro' folks move towards iOS, it's even more important to keep the 'pro' aspect of the Mac line!)
- made comments to the effect of the future being iOS/mobile (i.e.: iPad Pro), which I think is short-sighted if you think Pros are going there anytime soon... maybe true for basic users
- put like 95% of focus of recent presentations on iOS and social silliness (i.e.: emojis, Pokemon Go, etc.) instead of more substantive things, or things most Mac users would care about

We need some love, Tim, and more actions than just verbal (textual) assurances.

Apple has, what, 90,000 developers writing programs for everything from Mac Pros through MacBooks to iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches and iPod Touches. Overwhelmingly they write those apps on Macs using Xcode and Swift. There is no way in hell that Apple is going to abandon their developers, so they will _always_ develop better and faster Macs.
Yes they will - Every 3 years. And when they are released, they will be super expensive, non-user serviceable, and well behind technology wise.

Value proposition is causing the power users to move away, leaving only the prestige of the pretty logo folks, who don't mint spending $3k on years old technology.

Long gone are the days of a competitive mac, that is only a couple hundred $$$ more, but won out because of the serviceability over time.
