They need better quality control for launch products. My iPad Pro 9.7 was visibly curved upon arrival.

All current iPads have a very slight but noticeable curve along their length. I believe it's by design, and probably necessary to maintain strength. To 'pre-stress' it, if you will. I know what you mean though, as when you first see it the reaction is that it's bent, but they are supposed to be like this. It's not a quality control issue.

You need to ask yourself a single question: why does your computer have a larger screen than a smartphone?
Because it does much more complex tasks than a pad or phone and requires more room to deal with the increased data dusplay needs. iPad are just big iPhones that do the same thing, just bigger.

Was it my imagination, or did Apple say that a MacBook with touch screen wouldn't be ergonomic, would cause pain in your arms, etc? This picture is one of the most ridiculous and PC-ish I've ever seen from Apple.

I know that Timmy hasn't got much time to spend on products or customers' thoughts on products due to some political complications, award ceremonies and because he's playing with his big boy pants in India and China for bits and bobs, but I'll break it out for him and his umpalumpas anyway. Last week I had to work with iPad to finalise a single markdown file during my commute. The edit I did was a 5 minute job in mac and I had to spend 30 to get the same job. As a result, I now have 5 different copies of that same file in my iPad. Okay Timmy, let's open it up more. I use Onedrive even if I am totally in Apple Ecosystem because iCloud sucks. You know you have your file in there in a folder of some application and you can't see it in your mac because you're not in that application. Well, then there is OneDrive that cannot extract zipped files for some strange reasons, and since ios hasn't got any built-in functionality, I had to use another app that is basically a puppet finder. Luckily that application didn't have preview functionality for markdowns so I had to use another one to edit and preview. You know where this is going Timmy, right? Now tell me about your exciting Pro iPad line again, Timmy. Because...

It'd be pretty exciting if they just dropped the device and put their focus back into making a good computer.
No.

Remember, Timmy said.

“I think if you’re looking at a PC, why would you buy a PC anymore? No really, why would you buy one?” ...
“Yes, the iPad Pro is a replacement for a notebook or a desktop for many, many people. They will start using it and conclude they no longer need to use anything else, other than their phones.

What an idiot.
For many people he was right. Many people use laptops solely for email, article reading and social media. All things the iPad provides in streamlined apps. Pretty ignorant to think you know everything when all you see is extreme tech users on macrumors.

Only 1 out of every 10 iPads sold is a Pro, and yet Tim Cook is still spinning it as a positive. There is an obvious reason why the iPad sales have been declining 20% each year. It's the price. They are outrageously expensive. Tim added the Pro moniker to the 9.7 iPad, even though it only came with 2GB of RAM - the same amount found in the iPad Air 2, and 2GB less than the iPad Pro, and then charged $150 (or 40%) more for it. That is why no one is buying them.

The iPad pro could be a computer replacement. All it really needs is a file system and for USB C to replace the lightning port. It already has a touch screen, it already has a pretty good OS, it already has keyboard support, it already has stylus support to replace a cursor for more detailed interactions, and an accessible file system could be so easy to add since you can already have it easily if you are jailbroken. There really is just one thing keeping the iPad back and ironically that is the success of the app store. Arguably the app store was the thing that made it take off in the first place, and now is the thing that is holding it back from full potential

The myth of Gorilla Arm comes from the idea of reaching out far. According to people who believe the myth, reaching out to hit the iPad isn't as bad because of the lessened space from a lack of trackpad area.

Uh? All of my iPad apps are perfectly optimized and use all the real estate of the screen.

No he's right. He means that iOS is designed for an iphone and shoved onto an ipad...not the apps themselves. The apps are fine but the OS which limits how many icons are on the screen at a time and how many are in a folder page at a time to some ridiculously low number with huge amounts of vacant space is what he was referring to

Unfortunately, this market is becoming saturated. Making something thinner, with less bezel, or with incremental increases in power leaves little impetus to upgrade. What about creating new product markets? What about upgrading the other products like the iMac, Mac Mini and Mac Pro? I think that dropping the Cinema Display was a mistake (if even for the purpose of perception).

Likewise, you could technically operate a PC with a smartphone sized display. So what is the actual reason for a bigger display? Greater functionality. It isn't really as practical to do certain types of tasks on tiny screens for longer periods of time.

You watch DVDs on your Mac? Why! Rip it and put it in your HDD. You can have thousands. I have ripped all my Blurays and put them in my 5TB HDD. I use plex to stream them around the house including the AppleTV 4 in the living room, iPad, and iPhones, etc.

Coz every once in awhile I like to get the heck out of the house and go to the beach and watch waves rolling in and crashing on the shore in real-life HD. Try it sometime.

you are a lot closer to the screen here than you will be on a laptop with full size keyboard

Tim: I am still in washington lobbying, wheeling and dealing so I'll not be back for a few more months. I'll just tell the left press about the usual pipeline....

jony: don't worry I'll take care of making everything thinner so I can show my fellow designer how cool I am

Phil: promise me I'll become secretary of marketing when you are elected

I'd be happy with simply adding multiple logins... just sayin'...
Yes! This way I can have profiles for work and play. However they want everyone in your household to personalize their own rather than share.
I would like this too, but it will never happen. Most families by extra iPads to their kids to keep their stuff private.
The only reason I don't own an iPad right now is because I want one for the whole family to use with their own profiles/logins. Multi-user support is already a reality for Education. Now bring it to home users.

We should start playing Tim Cook Bingo. We already know what some of the spaces will say:

"Couldn't be happier"
"Couldn't be more excited"
"Pipeline"
"Exciting things"
"Through the roof"
"Runaway success"

Sounds like you're more focused on tallying Cook quotes than you are the actual product. Which tells me you're the type of person who will find something wrong he says no matter what. What about focusing on the positive aspects of the actual product, not hanging on every word Cook says.

Please add "We are very committed".

Do you mean the actual product in the pipeline, or the actual product full of exciting things? It's easy to get lost among all the actual products if one (i.e. me) does not have enough courage. And $$$.

people aren't buying them because most gen ipads are good enough for what people need and don't need upgrading.

All I can ask for is an premium product that delivers an experience that excels my work and personal experience. Apple delivers that to me. If Apple continues to provide me the quality and Software, incorporating their eco-system, then I'm satisified.
