Does anybody know if this is gonna be portable is it gonna have a battery?

The iPod HiFI was a terrific speaker hat was insanely high quality and also expensive. This looks to be the sequel to that terrific product, only with an even better industrial design. Otherwise, this is a great looking product that will probably sound awesome. I don't get the hate at all.

Apple is a luxury brand. Deal with it. Pay up or leave.
I don't hate it, but I don't know yet that I want it.

When I build my dream house in about two years in the future (It's been a rolling two years in the future for a couple of years), I'd like to have one of these in every major room. But that's kind of expensive. I'd have preferred a lower price for modest sound.

Oh well, in two years maybe there will be a HomePod Mini for rooms where you don't need the full sound field experience. If not, there will at least be refurbished units in the Apple Store.

349? Who's gonna buy this? And besides that, people have no clue what good audio should should sound like anymore as everyone has been hearing severely processed sound for almost 20 years.

I think they want you to have TWO in every room, which will be quite expensive, but probably sound amazing. At each room at $700.... this will be quite outside most people's budgets. who's planning on getting two to have stereo?

Apple is becoming a bowel of Apple sauce ! Everything they announced is predictable !
I truly miss Steve and his " one more thing "

“Good audio” sounds like...whatever individuals prefer good audio to sound like. You or I are in no position to dictate that to anyone. It’s not an absolute.

Even if you try to reproduce the audio experience of a live event, you can only hope to reproduce it from one single point of “view”. What is important from a technology standpoint is that the speaker is capable of producing a wide range of sound components consistently and with minimum distortion or artefacts. The rest is subjective by nature.

I did and I wasn't. Never got the hype around Sonos. I can appreciate the convenience of wireless speakers, but they sounded very mediocre to me.
Like I said, it’s subjective. Although most people do like Sonos gear so who knows...

I agree. The price doesn't bother me. It's in line with Sonos. But Sonos supports many services, any NAS box, etc. Will HomePod be as flexible and open? The Siri features aren't compelling to me for the most part.
No, I don't think so, as Tim Cook introduced it with Apple Music in combination.

It has no battery, just stationary entertainment.

Is $349 expensive? I don't get it. What people are comparing this to? Many Bluetooth speakers are already on $200-$300 price point, and they are just speakers. $349 is really cheap.

Seriously, are people comparing this to $20 speakers or something?
It better be better quality than a bluetooth speaker. Bluetooth speakers are terrible. WiFi is the only way to stream music.

I like how there's a deal on these the same day Homepod is announced.

Been like that for days, now

I actually kinda like how it's called HomePod. I find it as a spiritual successor to the iPod. With the iPod line practically gone, and the heavy emphasis on music, this thing is essentially the next iPod. Pretty cool evolution IMO.

$349 is about what I paid for my Bluetooth Harmon Kardon Aura and it's incredible.
Apple is promising that much at least, and much more in the way of utility.

I agree and I think that, in combination with the price, will severely limit the audience. I can't see any reason to replace my Sonos system with HomePod. In my mind HomePod has two serious drawbacks. First, Apple service exclusivity. Second, the speaker itself. Apple should have followed Sonos's lead and offered a HomePod that connects to one's existing home hifi setup. I have built-in speakers. Why would I want a HomePod sitting on a cabinet? But a HomePod connected to my stereo system with a discrete little Bluetooth microphone somewhere in the room would be very compelling.

Uhhhh...... Apple was still predictable when Steve was alive. What "One More Thing" are you referring to?

Get over it. Apple is doing extremely well and is still and awesome company.
