I'm having a similar dilemma. I'm leaning towards the 64gig but I'm not sure what I would fill it with. Another user said app size limit is 200 megs and most apps unless a game won't be near that size. So this leaves me with tons of free space not knowing what can be stored on it.

Apple never came out and said we can use the storage for video, music or pictures like how it was on the first Apple TV. So I'm stuck wondering if we can. I don't want to get the 64 gig and it ends up being only for apps, screen savers and the OS.

I want to know if we can actually store multimedia on it. Does anyone have this confirmation? Or someone who has a dev kit can confirm?

I've not seen anything confirming it yet. I personally think it will be apps, music, videos which I wouldn't store on there, only apps to be honest.

What?
Why do you buy atv if you don't want apps on your tv? Ain't that the point?

What speed? Speed of the time apple releases new atv?

I've had in my tv Spotify, Netflix Hbo, Photos, streaming from computer, MKV support from usb, etc for years now. I doubt that atv2 will support MKV that happens to be de facto standard of online video ;) Can you plug usb to it or do you need computer to stream files?

If you read the post I was replying to you wouldn't be confused. The original poster said smart tv's have apps. I said we don't want the apps on tv, which is why we buy streaming boxes for this purpose. It's faster and have better app ecosystem, we love the interface etc. And when it's time to upgrade we change the streaming box and not the entire tv. It really wasn't that hard to understand.

I said: Siri play Be yourself and get:

So, for me Siri keeps picking different names from my contacts for face time.
Doesn't matter which song I ask for.

Ok this is even more hard to believe after looking at your picture. The picture just doesn't look like what Siri looks like in iOS 8 or 9. Also it looks like the bottom of the picture is cut off.

I really get the feeling like you are trying to tarnish Apple and Siri reputation.

What does the space matter? 32gigs or 64gigs? When streaming movies or tv shows and buying stuff on iTunes doesn't make a difference!

That's what I'm trying to figure out too!

My only concern is are they removing the ability to stream things from your primary Mac? Are you going to have to "sync" content instead, i.e. all your music like an iPod rather than stream it?

With the original Apple TV you had the option to stream from your Mac or sync to the built in hard drive.

Ok so iOS 9 on my 64 gig iPhone 6s Plus takes up about 8 gigs. That's the OS and format etc. on the new Apple TV it will be a bit less since it's a stripped down version without all the things required for a cell phone that a tv OS doesn't need.

So I'm guessing the OS and format on the Apple TV is around 5 gigs (just an estimate). That leaves us with 59 gigs free storage if we were to choose the he 64 gig version. Minus 500 megs for every high definition screen saver we install or something like that, plus a few apps a max off 200 megs per app (most apps you download will be smaller, but you can download additional app content up to 2 gigs) Minus another 6 gigs reserved for movies buffer. Also maybe a gig to store images from the music app, App Store, movie store and tv show store etc, sort of like a cache so things can load faster.

Either way the 64 gig version will leave us with a lot of free space I don't know exactly what it will be used for. I understand now it won't be for Apple content since you can stream it, so no movies, tv shows or Apple Music. So that leave pictures or iCloud photos stored locally? I'm just guessing here, feel free to help out.

I don't think any syncing of Apple own content or firm their apps will be allowed since it also supports home sharing as I saw in one video on YouTube. You just leave your computer on and running with it enabled and you can browse it from the Apple TV. With most newer macs with flash drives or ssd, the power of the new Apple TV and newer and faster networks. I'd say this should work very well and smooth even for people with large libraries doing home share.

It's clear that there's something wrong with your setting. You should restore your device as new.
I am waiting until there is ample supply of 6S Plus space gray with 128GB and give it another try.

At that point my 4S will become an iPod.

Haha. The sky is not falling and whether I have problems with Siri doesn't hurt Apple or Siri.

You assume I have the time to make up pictures like that or post something that isn't true.
I am an "objective" Apple only fan since 1984 and bought many of their good devices and left the crappy ones alone. (Or waited until they were worth buying)

It's just that Apple isn't god like or I am pumped full of their cool aid. They are mostly excellent for a large corporation, but not everything always works as advertised. (Nor do I expect that or a perfect world)

For now Siri doesn't work for me and I will give it another shot when I buy the 6S plus as soon as there are plenty in stock.

In Siri's voice: Sorry Thunderhawks I did not understand what you meant by "It's just that Apple isn't god like or I am pumped full of their cool aid"

Anyway a I see now above in another post you stated you have a 4S. Maybe the microphone is bad or maybe you're not running the latest iOS. My old 4S running iOS 9 works very well with Siri, not as fast in processing but it is just about the same in listening and accuracy.

4K content isn't something needed, it is something people want. Which is why I'm going to buy myself the 55" 1080p oled tv from LG. The one that cnet said was the best tv they've ever seen last year and they recommended it over the best 4K tv they've seen this year which is also another oled LG TV, simply because when you sit a distance away you cannot really tell the difference in quality with moving videos and the price is cheaper.

If you plan on sitting really close to a 55" or other big screen tv then sure get your 4K. You'd probably get tired of sitting so close to your tv real quick. It's like sitting all the way up front in the movie theater, the experience isn't best when compared to sitting a little distance away.

An Apple TV isn't something anyone NEEDS either, it's what people WANT. An TV isn't something people NEEDS, it's what people WANT...

Yes, that one particular thing. But then we'd be missing out on all the other Apple TV-only features, like AirPlay and Apple Music.
Nope. Roku does Miracast (as does my TV), and it works better than Airplay, so I have been using that instead. I do have a low end $175 Windows laptop that does Miracast, so I use it for anything I need on the big screen. But for those who are Mac only, AirPlay is greatness. For those of use who have Mac, Windows, and Linux, Miracast works great as well, actually better in my case.

With AirPlay you can either mirror the entire screen of the source device or specific things like just a video or picture without showing what's on the source screen. Also AirPlay uses no compression and can stream at the source resolution or target resolution Can those other devices do that as well?

As a Roku and Apple TV owner, I'm finding myself using other options even for those "Apple only" things. For example, I used to use AirPlay a lot to stream web video content to my TV. But hand-off/buffering is slow, fast forwarding lags, freezes, etc. Sometimes I can turn off the iPad screen and the video will continue, while other times the stream will quit. The whole process is inconsistent.

Meanwhile, the TV Cast app for Roku is a way better experience. I browse to the video and "cast" the URL to the Roku and everything is much faster and more consistent (especially restarting after FFwd). Also, using the iPhone or iPad or turning off the screen has no effect on the video stream. For Apple Music, I just Airplay directly to my A/V Receiver which means I don't need to use the TV at all.

I will buy the new ATV on day one, so hopefully I'll be pleasantly surprised by improved Airplay streaming, and the app support will no doubt grow over time. But I wouldn't be surprised if Roku remains my primary streaming box and I find myself using ATV 4 mostly as a casual gaming console.

Then you don't need this product. Why are you wasting your time talking about it?

We use our Apple TV every day. Our family is VERY excited about it, and how we can do things like have family game night where we can play games like Crossy Road with multiple people on the TV so everyone can watch.

Easy, to let people know that are looking at the Apple TV that they have not been equal to the competition in the past. Not everyone blindly follows Apple. Most products are great, but Apple TV has not been one, and I think it is good to let people know that before they buy. Devices like Roku have Miracast, and something like 1500 channels as well as games. I am glad Apple is making inroads, but they still have to prove to me they are as good as the competition before I look, and I think others should as well. If you buy products only when they are at their best it will help us to get the best products from Apple. If all you need is AirPlay and Netfix then the ATV will be good for most, but if you want the tons of content like free cooking channels, 3D channel, free Westerns, etc. ATV has not delivered. If they do it in the newest one then great. It is good to see them add games like Roku, Amazon Fire TV, etc have done. I don't use that feature, but some might.

There... I wasted some more time in order to educate. If you love ATV and it works for you then great, and I will be glad to sell you my ATV gen 3 if you would like.

I know this already, not sure why you're telling me.

Because in your post your were being arrogant in defending Apple by telling people they don't NEED 4K TV because it's what they WANTED. Just because YOU don't NEED 4k, doesn't mean others wouldn't want it or need it.

I'm with you.. Would like clarification on what the storage space is exactly for

I meant that I am not a blind "Apple can do no wrong" fan.

Yes, 4S and lagging a little, but even when the phone was new it never did Siri right for me.
I will try again when I buy the 6S Plus. We'll see.

Clearly you don't know the difference between a need and a want. I'm not defending Apple in any way by saying people don't need a 4K tv. It is something they want and that's the plain truth. Don't try to take what I said out of context and twist it to your self benefit, whatever that may be.
