In other news... Apple employees fired for being honest.

It reminds me of the disparity at my local Apple store between the employee you could find who would actually level with you and admit the Butterfly Keyboards were coming back in all the time with failures versus the front of house person who “had never even heard of that issue… That’s really strange!”

Maybe it has to do with how recently you watched an employee training video and sucked up all the dogma?

Apple employees _should_ be transparent with the customers, but even if that means they give their honest opinion one way or the other. They’re not ‘forced’ to read off a script every time a customer comes in, they should be a realist in terms of talking about their experience with a certain product, service, etc. Are they trying to upsell customers for certain things? Sure, but if a customer doesn’t feel right about a trade-in, there’s nothing wrong with an Apple employee telling them you might have more lucrative options elsewhere. The Customer should be comfortable in making the most appropriate decision, even if that means they don’t give Apple business. It happens, it’s called the customer service industry.

Timmy is spinning this an an environmental thing? Like somehow trading an iPhone in to Apple is good for the environment but selling it on craigslist or passing it on to your parents isn't?

It amazes me that anyone still gives this bozo any credibility.
How little ability for critical thinking do his fanatics have?

Huh? Did he even suggest or hint that? No. That's your spin gateway to trash Cook.

Either people are lazy or just stupid. However I wish to give them the benefit of a doubt and go with the first option ...

Or... they're productive with whatever money-making or artistic endeavors they're engaged in and it would make no sense screwing around with CL or ebay.

No, it just shows that Cook is a crackpot that doesn't care about the environment or basic human rights despite Apple trying to present themselves as champion of the underprivileged and environment.

Little Timmy deserves all the trash talking he gets. Apple actively fights right to repair but will not offer to repair computers or devices that non-certified Apple techs will do.

If Apple cared about the environment, they would advocate for component level repair and provide parts to non-authorized vendors, or set up an "affordable" process for vendors to be low level component repair shops in order to save the environment from hazardous electronic waste.

OK... Apple having a trade-in program for iPhones shows all that. That's so funny!

1/3 of customers are getting jipped

Indeed they are. 😆
Gazelle offers more money for their trade-in than apple.
BuyBackWorld offers generally more than Gazelle.
I sent my iPhone Xs Max to ItsWorthMore and got 723$ for it. that covered a lot of the cost towards the new 11 Pro Max.

I wonder really how accurate 1/3 is, that number seems a little over exaggerated to me. I would hope that others are shopping around for the best buy back price rather than saying "Ok Apple, Heres my old gear hook me up!"

I personally wouldn't feel comfortable buying or selling my phone on Ebay, Craigslist, NextDoor, OfferUp or LetGo. 3 Reputable companies the that i know of i listed (because i have used each many times and never had an issue). I would strongly encourage people to look at these options rather than take less cash for convenience. I do it so i can leverage the maximum trade in value so i am not spending a huge out of pocket for the new phone (mean you still take the hit somewhere, but at least not too repeatedly.. lol - like that really helps lol)

It’s probably accurate.
I have no trouble believing there are third of people who have enough money where they just don’t care.

Apple basically caters to the “I’ve got so much money I don’t care” crowd now

I'm pretty put off by the fact that the trade-in value for Apple Watch is basically nothing. They'll give you $100 for a stainless steel series 4 right now.

It's like they keep testing the depths (and heights) of how much ripping off they can get away with..
Still testing - still going - no signs of stopping.

I think they could charge a base price of $2k for iPhones and still get people justifying it left and right (here included)

Testing the limits is a very good way to describe what they've been doing.

They certainly found out last year that they couldn't release the most minor Y-o-Y update in iPhone history, charge more for it than ever before (XS Max $1099 starting price, XR $749 starting price), and still be anywhere near as successful as they projected.

Of course...the only result of that "learning" was $50 less for iPhone 11...

I agree with your point, because you’re right. However, it’s gypped and it’s a derogatory reference to gypsies being assumed thieves. I feel safe in assuming that’s not the message you were sending, but I wanted to put that out there.

How much money should Apple offer for a used Watch? Let's say a Series 1 aluminum.

I would agree with you, except I think right to repair is complete joke. To me thats a very political, amateurish standpoint that is negated by engineering knowledge. To suggest that a company should change their design practices or product development around some generic concept of "repairability" is frankly a joke.

While you're right about the term gypped, the word gypsie is also an offensive term applied to the Romani people. Calling a Roma a Gypsie, is on par to calling an African-American the n-word. So if you insist on calling people out for unintended racism and trying to educate them, please be a lot more careful. It's ironic that you're helping spread racist terms yourself.

And yet 99% of Apple's customer service agent know nothing about the program including how to pick up the new phone and trade in the previous at a different time. Or, that Apple cannot ship a trade in box to anyone who picks ups phone in the store. Or even that a store will take the trade at a later date (no one I talked to could actually confirm this tidbit, except a store).

So, Tim...you got some work to do. First step, inform the call centers since they are not staffed with Apple employees.

This benefits to nobody but Apple:
- Customers get from Apple less value compared to selling their used devices.
- Apple reduces the used devices market, which is "dangerous" as erodes value on new devices.
- Apple gets more profit.

I don't think your fist premise is based upon and facts. Its hard to sell on Ebay and after fees get a fair value.

What percentage of apple customers ever step foot in an apple store? Maybe 30%? That would mean 10% of apple customers...

I never have been to an apple store, and i probably never will. It is just a shrine to the ideology of apple.... i mean, just look at their renderings they publish when they open a new store! Reality just isnt like that!

I wonder what they do with all the used phones. Ship them to India to sell?

From watching youtube repair videos, it seems that atleast some customers who get replacement devices from Apple get devices that were damaged and repaired by Apple. Some have evidence of water damage. Atleast this is what is portrayed. I dont have direct experience.

And there is a business case for buying up used devices so used devices are not available to the general public. This leads to increased new phone sales. It can be argued that the trade in offer leads to the sale of 2 phones for each trade in. People are more likely to upgrade because it costs them less, and people who want a used phone end up buying new, due to limited supply of used phones.

I saw that too, i was looking around and went to my three basic places i always use and ItsWorthMore offered me 325 for mine (But offer went done 25$ by the time i went back the next day). so traded in with them.. this was for a 44mm Apple Watch SS Series 4 Gold in flawless condition I feel almost what you get thru apple is insulting.
