Not to defend Tim Cook, but you guys are complaining "yawn, nothing we haven't heard before"
But then, you're on MacRumors. Of course you'll hear all the latest and rumors of Apple...
Try not accessing this site, or any tech sites about Apple for 1 month, see how much you'll miss.

Tim Cook has been coasting on the legacy of the products that were created when Apple wasn't a parody of itself.

Now, it has become Microsoft of the 1990s. Living off the fat off of one product, it's innovative days long behind it. It won't be long before they introduce the iPhone equivalent of Windows Vista. It might even be the iPhone 7.

I think people are starting to suspect that perhaps Tim Cook has nothing up his sleeves, and all the "moonshot" projects are a smokescreen for the real problem at Apple.

Okay, well I'll just mark your response as ambiguous dislike for something with not much to back it up.

Now that I am home on my computer I was going to elaborate on some of the disappointing thing about the ATV4, but it seems others have beat me to it. Maybe I can add a few for you.

I have had an ATV1, and ATV2 and ATV3 and now the ATV4, and anyone who says that the ATV4 doesn't have anything compelling enough to make it an upgrade over the ATV3 is just kidding themselves.

This is very subjective. My statements are saying that I was disappointed by the ATV4, while most of yours are taking subjective statements as fact. Also, I have ATV1, 2 ,3 and 4, so does many others.

First of all, there are plenty of good apps available.

This is debatable. Personally, I use Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, Weather, NBC, HBOGo, Showtime, Music, Computer, Trailers and on occasion I play some bubblegum games.

Besides the games, the rest of the Apps were available on the ATV3, and I think most of the apps have a better UI on the ATV3, especially Netflix.

While there might be some good Apps out there, for me, the best ones are already on the older device.
Amazon Prime is on its way soon.
I look forward to this, but I also heard this for a while. There was a rumor on this site that it was suppose to be out before the end of 2015. So, I won't hold my breath.

And the advent of the App Store means that more great apps will come when developers finish and submit them, instead of when some big name negotiates a deal with Apple.
But, the apps are not here now, and may not be here for a while. So the ATV4 has potential to be great, but not yet.

Not sure what you mean about the remote being disappointing, but I find the remote to be one of the best things about the product.
It is nice that you like the remote, but many people don't. I think that many would agree that it is not good for games, does not feel natural when using, and searching with text is just silly.

But the ability to search and navigate content by voice is such an upgrade over the ATV3 as to make your comment laughable, IMO.
The voice search needs work, and depending on it is laughable.
Searching with voice is a hit or miss type of situation for me. Sometimes it works, but many times it is useless. Try searching stand up comics for example.

It does a ton more than the ATV3. That's a ridiculous statement. Voice searching and navigation. Developer based app store. Apple music voice control, among others.
The ATV4 has more features than the ATV3, I don't think anyone is denying that. Whether the new features are worth the added cost to upgrade is the debate. The App store may take off one day, but as of today, it still is not there. The voice and nav is also a debatable subject because many people on this forum dislike the new UI, the apps UI, and using the voice search.

And you may not find the games interesting or compelling, but a lot of people do and will. I've never been a gamer myself, and would never dream of buying a PS4, Nintendo or any other game console. But for the casual gamer the ATV is a great source for a short distraction of a game.
I am also not a gamer, beside WoW, and the occasional Mario game with my kids, I do not play. But, I was really looking forward to the ATV4 when it came out because of the game potential. But, now that developers must use the Apple remote for the games, I doubt we will have a rush of decent games coming to the ATV4.

I am amazed how creative the developers are getting when it comes to making game that use a 1 button controller, but these games seem like they are all bubble gum games and nothing that I was expecting.

Not sure we bought the same device. They delivered everything they said they were delivering when they introduced it.
Apple's press release called using the ATV4 a "revolutionary experience". Even if someone really likes it, they might find it hard to call it revolutionary.

Spot on - please note my signature for the past few years

You nailed.
As a professional that uses Macs everyday is pretty disheartening that Apple put Mac software and hardware on the back burner. MacPro and TB displays are a joke how long they are outdated.
Add to insult 5400rpm drives small amounts of RAM and many other things.

That's why I don't care about an Apple car, watch, Music or producing media content. Focus on Mac and iOS.

2. No 4K. Now I am not a crazy 4K purist, but the fact that Apple have Computers and iPhones that are supporting 4K and you cannot apply that to the ATV4, is unacceptable. Streaming services also now output 4K (ATV is a streaming device right?) and is all evidence that ATV4 is a crippled device IMO.

This part makes no sense to me. The IPhone itself records 4K video, but we can't watch it on our 4K tvs?! What am I supposed to use to watch my 4K video? Oh right. Something other than the streaming media solution Apple gave me!

Just strange to me...Apple always makes a big deal about retina screens and the 5k iMac and now the iPhone recording 4K, but now we are limited to 1080 for viewing things. What???

Psssst..., Tim...
Hoenestly, even if they upgraded the whole Mac lineup, that wouldn't change my personal buyers guide. The 5K iMac is really nice but far too expensive for me, so neutral. And I remain cautious if the Skylake upgrade will solve the performance issues with the MacBook. The rest is too big and too heavy for me compared to an iPad. I don't see me buying another computer with a fan in it.

*YAWN* the fact that Tim Cook (wow!) shows it all… *roll eyes* The pipeline is empty - iPads are victim - streaming market: apple is the LAST to enter. Too late. top Smartphones: Competitors already chasing apple car: Responsible left apple. after having failed means: "We are too late" means: "We had a big sleep." they have less money ---> Huawei.
You are suffering from mustbefirstism. o_O

On an unrelated/related note, does anyone with an ATV4 have to restart their devices frequently because apps won't load? It's driving me crazy!

Yes. Or for the iTunes Store to update. I'm restarting my appletv so much lately there should be a dedicated restart button on the remote

Nope. Apart from playing around with the DNS, and the initial software update when I got it, I haven't had to restart it once. Been very happy with the experience.

From Tim words I can say, that probability to see the Iphone 5SE, is minimal to none.

So it gives me a bit of hope for the March event.

Anything about new MPs? Minis? I need a new server. Tim? Hello? My Xserve is not long for this world. Please don't make me switch my server room to some sort of Hyper-V nightmare.

Low production costs, higher profit$. Any MBA knows that.

Well…. this is correct. BUT:

You win a lot of money (about 800-1000 USD) if you buy one of the (still available) MBP 13" models for 899 USD and upgrade it by yourself! Just buy it, take a 500GB (less than 200 USD) or better 1TB Samsung SSD (about 330 USD) , buy up to 16 GB RAM for less than 100 USD) - and you have a fast machine - only about 20% slower than the LAST 13" retina MBP! The only remarkable difference will be the screen. But you have still enough money to buy a DECENT external monitor, can use the original HDD as backup… and even then you did spend less than for a retina MBP - AND you stay with something you can upgrade od modify just as you like to do, even without glued Batteries and without soldered RAM and SSDs… nice!

Is there something wrong with the 5400RPM drives?

Here is a sarcasm-free response to this.
With everything else being equal between 2 HDDs, the higher the RPM, the faster the drive will read and write.

If you play games like WoW, you will notice a big difference on the load screens.

There are some downsides to having a higher RPM on a HDD, one being it cost more, another being it uses more energy and causes more heat.

I never heard of having a lower RPM being less reliable than higher, if everything else is the same. Although, some of the really fast drives, 10,000 and 15,000 RPM ones are considered more reliable, but that might have more to do with quality of parts and design than do to the RPM.

You can have a lower RPM and still have a fast drive though. Some hybrid drives use a slower RPM drive and have really good speeds.

I think everyones complaint, mine included, is that Apple is only putting these drives in the desktops to save on money. They are purposely gimping their product, and now it is hard to upgrade the HDD on some of the desktops. I think these type issues have become more common in the past few years.

Although, I think it is worse that they made a 24GB SDD in the Fusion drive to save on cash, it use to be 120GB.
