Hey Apple, how about doing the right thing and paying corporate taxes? How about bringing some of your overseas wealth back stateside? What you do may be legal, but it sure ain't ethical...

That would be a very, very bad move. Besides, why should a multinational corporation pay all of its taxes to the US? Probably some tax dodging going on, but if they had to pay corporate tax at the rate of whatever country the HQ happens to be in, they would most likely move HQ.

----------

Well, that's kinda true. If there is one thing ole Jobs was undeniably better at than Cook, it would be screaming at people.

I always got the impression that Jobs ran Apple as a cross between a hippie commune and a 60's British boarding school. Everyone there probably wanted to keep him in the "everything is magical" mood more often than "HOW CAN YOU HAVE ANY PUDDING IF YOU DON'T EAT YOUR MEAT".

Wow, I've never heard such a vivid analysis :D
Hey, you behind the bike stands with rounded corners!

They are producing a product at China and selling it to Turkey.. They are perfectly paying to those who contributed to the product R&D and Design in USA and paying their taxes in USA as well.. So, please tell me, where is it not ethical???

Part leaks come from factories in China. Apple employees wouldn't have access to those parts. Apple can't hold Chinese factories accountable for part leaks like they would in the U.S. because China doesn't have the same laws we have.

The Mac Pro is assembled in the U.S. and nothing from that was leaked.
Correct. This memo had nothing to do with leaks. There are hardly any from actual Apple employees and most Apple projects remain completely secret- iOS 7 being a huge example. What does leak is parts made in China on devices where Apple attempts to stockpile millions before launch. The reason this wasn't an issue back in the day is because before the iPhone 4 Apple's products were all pretty low volume and weren't extensively stockpiled. There hasn't been any decline in the ethics or loyalty of Apple's own staff, despite the huge head count growth. The only solution to the part leaks would be for the devices to be made outside of China by robots. Incidentally Apple is heading that way.

With so much unemployment going around in the world, I don't think there's much added value of "robotizing" the production line for the world. Sure, defective production would be less than now, maybe less leaks too, but I dont think we need robots producing stuff other than industries where human health is a concern, like mining or textile...

Oh for gods sake why is this newsworthy? Where I work we get emails about this kind of stuff all the time. Heck we even have required computer based training for things like compliance, privacy and business ethics. Seems to me this is standard corporate stuff that 9to5Mac is making a big deal about. I'd love to know who leaks to them, as whoever it is should probably be fired.

This seems more like standard fare. We live in an increasingly regulated and litigious environment. Most large companies have codes of conduct and employees typically have to formally review it and sign something to that effect every year. This could simply have been the introduction to a required annual certification. I get a similar type of message every year, complete with a video from our chairman.

Exactly. This is much ado about nothing. Every big company has a code of condut that employees are required to follow and all this email/video is doing is reminding people to review it.

----------

Must be a slow news day.

...OH GOD! WHY DID I JUST SAY THAT? WHAT HAVE I BECOME?

No, just 9to5Mac showing off that someone at Apple leaks to them. And making a story out of a non story (anyone that works for a large corporation would know these code of conduct things are standard fare). Hopefully whoever is leaking to them is found out and fired.

oh... i guess i can see it on YouTube.

good slogan, but its actually wrong... I would have said "At Apple, we do the wrong thing."

Look at how many issues people have had with their products in terms of hardware issues on their new Mac's

That's nothing to be proud of

I know at the company I work for, its part of being a 'Quality Assured' company we have to be seen as being pro active on random distribution of company policies and 'safe work method statements' to keep staff up to date, whether they choose to read it or not we dont know but at least if an incident occurs and an employee takes us to court for unfair dismissal or a particular safety incident which caused injury we can bring up the fact that as a 'QA' company we are pro active on keeping staff up to date on how they should work safely and conduct themselves when representing the company so at least there is no recourse in that regard.

Maybe Apple are being pro active here so they can potentially fire people easier?

I could be wrong of course, Im no lawyer.

Most people wanted to do the right thing for Steve, but they don't have the same loyalty to Tim.

Are you implying there were no, or fewer leaks under Steve, as the evidence would say otherwise.

there's a key difference and it has nothing to do with newsworthy_ness.. with your employer (and others in the thread saying the same thing), nobody cares about what your company will be doing next year..

there's no drama if you told me your company sent you a reminder that you're in a workplace which requires confidentiality.

it's entertaining when hearing about this letter/video from apple-- leaked parts.. stolen secrets.. steve vs tim.. heads rolling.. mystery.. you could literally base an entire movie around this one tiny incident (well, there are already probably 500 movies of the same plot but you get the picture)

news is boring.. people don't want news. we want entertainment.

Well said by the person with over 5000 posts, on a Macrumor site...

You are not being serious?

Where will you misspend your time if there are no Macrumors? In the same post you even state that this is not even a proper rumour, so you are contradicting your own statement surely? Because on one hand you are asking for a more serious violation of Apple's code of conduct (leaks) and then saying they should be sacked.

You also say that this is not newsworthy in your other post. So are you suggesting it is ok to leak the new Macbook Air with retina specifications, but not company codes of conduct?

Or anybody who does (and fuels your patronage to this site) should be fired?

Nothing to see here. Any major company has such a policy document. Any major company will have regular training so that employees behave in the right way. Not having such a policy and training would be incredibly dangerous legally. And most companies would have some kind of video unless the CEO is so hated that a video showing him would be a turn-off.

I wouldn't feel comfortable or safe working for Apple. The company is built around the values of a man who seemed to have some sort of anti-social personality disorder.

We all feel a lot better knowing you don't work at Apple.

----------

So no one spoke up when the plan to put 1Gig or RAM in the iPad air was revealed?

No, because Apple doesn't hire Samsung trolls :D

Most of the complaints about RAM actually come from some people with "just enough knowledge to be dangerous" who misinterpret the way that iOS works, and is intended to work. So if an Apple employee complained, they would be told (correctly) that they don't know what they are talking about.

----------

A casual yet sincere warning to all Apple employees. This is necessary to maintain security standards, code of conduct as well as credibility issues. Most large corporations have this to protect themselves as well as make people aware that they exist.

It's not a "warning". What I get at my company is mostly common sense and what I would expect any decent person to do anyway. Some is a gentle reminder not to get carried away when talking in public. And some things around anti-trust law are an explanation what is legal and what is illegal. So only the most anti-social people would have to change their behaviour because of this.

There are things where as an employee I would want a concrete answer. Like "what am I allowed to post on MacRumors". In my case: Anything about the company that isn't confidential, with my own name under it, and stating that it is my opinion and not the company's. Since gnasher729 is not my real name, nothing :D

Does this policy also apply to Apple employees cooperating with the NSA to spy on its users?

It applies to anyone, but I don't think there are any Apple employees actively cooperating with the NSA to spy on Apple's users. If you have any concrete reason to believe they do and not just stupid insinuations, tell us.

Actually, I'd like them to test their Mail app against, say, the most common email service in the world, before they release it.

That would be a start.

Yet another OS for Mac release with crippling Mail problems.

A little less self-congratulatory posturing and a bit more product testing, would go a long way, thanks Tim.

Anyone else noticed features added in Mountain Lion, missing from Mavericks?
Version control must be something only hipsters outside Cupertino do…

Now I know why Apple didn't dare charge for Mavericks.
