No, not you or I either. What one would enjoy having and what one deserves can be quite different. I'm not disputing that Cook has worked tremendously hard during his time at Apple or that he deserves to be well-off. But has he worked hard enough to earn $750 million and is that a just payment given how Apple's engineers are being compensated in comparison and given the level of wealth inequality in the nation his company is based in? I don't believe so, but it's fine for you to disagree. Like I said, I support Cook as CEO and this isn't a criticism aimed at him directly. I think it's part of a much broader issue.

Did he earn $750m or did he take his options and turn them into $750m?

He's clearly doing his job: earning revenue and returning value to shareholders.

I just don't like what Apple has become as a consequence of his excellent execution of that job.

Of course, achieving your aims doesn’t say anything about the correctness of your aims.

Rather than giving his “wealth away” after sucking the company dry, PAY EMPLOYEES MORE!

It is all so altruistic to take so much compensation that you can live a life of extreme luxury entirely on dividends and tax free bond interest, while your store employees struggle.

I don’t adhere to socialism, but this is just corporatist fascism, with super huge corporations doing the government’s bidding in exchange for power and wealth beyond the common man.

Unless it's you or me, right? Then of course it's ok 🤣 I'm sure you'll deny that, but come on, you know it's true. It's simply envy that leads people to say things like this. If you read the article, you would see he clearly deserves (and is owed) this based on his performance and the agreement he had. He's worked hard to earn his success.

I've never had the option to earn that much - but I've turned down jobs that would give me a large pay increase because I knew that the job was against my professional and personal ethics.

"He's worked hard to earn his success." - so that assumes that he works 7500x more than the average engineer working at his company? (sake of argument that he can cash out his stock options at market value)

Or 15000x more than the cleaning staff?

Fully agree that it makes sense to have different salaries to people which - through luck, genes or hard work - make their mark on society - but telling his workers: "hey, make the iPhone 13 faster and better" - is not prescient skillz!
And he's not putting in 900 hour days...

After receiving his stock, TC said he was "proud" to be working on such initiatives. He's laser focused on improving, doubling-down his options and handed over his presentation to several other very proud Apple employees.

But in all seriousness, he’s going to give away much of his fortune to charity, which is fair enough.

Agree with all this. Someone just saying he worked hard is ridiculous in its own, how do they for one know what he would consider working hard and then how can they confirm he actually did this. Anyways all i gotta say about it now after my other pieces is Whatever.

Well he's doing a great job for the stakeholders and increasing profit margin. That's not necessarily great for a customer perspective.
If it's only good for the shareholders...it's not "well deserved". Also, the person who made that comment, is constantly praising Apple...from a customer's perspective. So, to make that comment...o_O

I would never accept that amount of money for anything. Ever.

You say he worked "hard" to earn his success. If working "hard" is the yardstick for determining compensation, then this discussion is a non starter.

He is owed the compensation as per contract. No one is denying or arguing that. From a moral and ethical standpoint, it's criminal.

I have always felt the same way about celebrities, professional athletes, and politicians. These people make obscene fortunes of the backs of a society that props up the ability for them to do it.

How about giving the garbage man or a crossing guard a raise?

There are a LOT of people who go into careers who do so to make things better for other human beings. The compensation is usually very poor, and most of them struggle to make ends meet, but they do the work necessary to keep society functioning.

We put people like Tim Cook on a pedestal, when we really shouldn't. His value to humanity/pay ratio is very very poor...

So he negotiated the number of shares 10 years ago, executed extremely well, so that’s where we are today.
I’m not sure that I like the actual numbers that a lot of these CEOs make, but that is reality today and we have to thank Wall Street for that
