According to the announcement, Cook is being recognized for both creating technology with a "profound impact" on communication ...

What horsesh... What technology has he created with a "profound impact" during his tenure? Beats headphones? Oh wait, headphones already existed. Apple Music? Hmm, nope, music subscriptions existed too. iPhone? iPad? OS X? Nope, nope, and nope. Oh, I got it, it must be the now ubiquitous Apple Pencil, compatible with all current Apple devices. Oh wait....

Sounds like the Newseum is trying to butter a certain CEO up for a $ or in-kind donation. Surely he doesn't deserve an award for bringing new technologies to market. This is the equivalent of a participation trophy AFAIC.

Please refer to any history book written in the last 75 years for even a quick primer on the life and times of Adolf Hitler, before equating people to him so casually.

Amen. So tired and annoyed of everything being compared to Hitler. It diminishes what he did and the carnage he wrought. People who compare him to any modern western politician are ignorant of history.

So, one angry reporter says "Make America Great Again" is double speak for "Make America White Again" and we should just all believe it. Got cha.

Again, though I disagree with many things about Trump, I don't see anything that he is saying that is disproportionally aimed to help white people.

Bringing jobs back to America
Enforcing America's Borders
Appointing a SCOTUS nominee who is a strict constitutionalist
Rolling back regulations
etc.

Again, I'm not saying I agree with everything he is doing and certainly not how he is doing everything, but just because you and some reporter says there is a white agenda doesn't make it so.

Right or wrong everything he's doing is intended to help all Americans and unless you can provide some specific examples of this mythological "white agenda" I'm calling BS and knee jerk liberal reaction on you.

...

The actual quote (from the link) was:

"Cook, who has led Apple since August 2011, will be recognized for his leadership in creating technology that has had a profound impact on how we communicate. Further, he has used his spotlight to take a public stand on major societal issues, including racial equality, privacy, protecting the environment, access to education and LGBT rights."

I agree he used the spotlight to take a public stand, not too sure about the first part. Maybe they are referring to iMessages? not sure.. (maybe just a generic blanket for continuing the iPhone??)

I love the Newseum... haven't been since they moved out of Arlington. Time to go back.
It's beautiful. I was there for a gala a couple of years ago. It's definitely worth a visit but I don't know how it compares to what you saw because I didn't visit it while it was in Arlington. I wonder if they've added much to it since I was there. I wish I could remember more of what I did see. I was distracted by the socializing I had to do.

Wow. Way to minimize what those millions of people suffered through. You just sh*t on the graves and memories of all those people. Unbelievable. Mao is probably the only person in recent history who should be compared to Hitler. Just gross.

And yet, you want Hillary in jail. Hmmmm

Really. "Free Expression?" I guess it's based on who he is in the room with. Of course it could be for his most noted expressions: "Magical", "I'm so excited", "You're not going to believe this", "We treat all our employees as family" (except retail), and finally my favorite: "He’s not given credit as a teacher. But he’s the best teacher I ever had by far. There was nothing traditional about him as a teacher. But he was the best. He was the absolute best."

Then why are you still running Apple as a COO?

Good God, if the mans head and ego gets any bigger he'll begin to believe he's the second coming.. oh wait....

I would NEVER give him this award. The way he has 'expressed' himself is through the Apple brand name. Has he done expression through any other way?

As for the environment! Seriously! All he's done is hire someone else to do that work and carry on from what Steve did, and that's only done so they can reduce fees and taxes due to carbon emissions and reduce energy bills, don't get me wrong it's good work, but it's hardly in the name of the planet first.

Don't let facts get in the way of a good rant!!!

I remember the shareholder meeting when a large institutional investor got the floor for his question & called Tim out- basically: "the tax and electricity savings don't even come CLOSE to covering the exorbitant costs of your environmental efforts... we the investors want to know why you're wasting company $ in this way"... Tim let him know in no uncertain terms- "we're doing this for the next generation, NOT for profit" & even said "I don't think this stock is right for you; you should get out of it".

"Free expression" as long as you agree with Tim?

Kind of like the "freedom of speech protesters" in Berkeley last night who shut down a speech they didn't like. The irony is rich.
Oh I know, shutting down an absolute right winger so full of hate. Oh the humanity!!!
These alt-right people do NOTHING for anyone. They are self serving negative types who want to be able to behave badly and not be shown up for it. They are loathsome.

Well you could do that, but then you are attempting to deliberately sensor freedom of speech. You know that little thing millions have died over the years fighting for!
What makes your opinion or anyone with over 100 posts MORE valid then anyone else huh?

Oh brother!!!!
Here comes the social justice warrior!!!!

MILLIONS died to fight the sensor (sic) of free speech?
Lol, ok buddy.

Edit:
To be clear- I'm a lover of free speech; just don't like to see that right perverted as an excuse to act childish. We all want a CIVIL moderated forum. That's why there's mods here. That's why we're not on a less structured forum. Do people have the RIGHT to post spam or hate speech elsewhere on the net? Sure. We come here because we choose not to view that.

Please refer to any history book written in the last 75 years for even a quick primer on the life and times of Adolf Hitler, before equating people to him so casually.

What??
Both are INCREDIBLY charismatic petulant world leaders that rose to power on a stance of vitriol, hate, inciting violence, and blaming minorities for everything bad that has ever happened.
Just because Hitler's "final solution" is more extreme than Trump's "build a wall and shoot anyone that climbs it", and "assume every single member of a major religion, (that shares the basic tenants of peaceful coexistence of other major religions) are terrorists and discriminate accordingly", doesn't mean that no parallels can be drawn.
Ok, I'll give you: he is a LESS extreme Hitler-like demagogue. Happy?

Your avatar should have trump. The egomaniac is breaking ethics laws with his ties to business and being president.

Btw Tim Cook is standing up for the greater good of the world. Unlike trump who is pushing the white agenda

You are so misguided, and have no idea what's coming to Hillary and her cronies. Going to be such lolz when you and your ilk have to eat chit over all you've thought and said and it completely changes your own perception of reality.

Well, besides the admitted ***** grabbing, the walking in on beauty pageant contestants, etc... there's also:

  • Racial housing discrimination in NYC between 1973-1975
  • Trump University being a complete fraud, 2005-2010
  • Tenant intimidation (shutting off their water, power, etc.) to remove rent-controlled tenants, 1982-1986
  • His refusal to release his tax returns, and his lying about them being reviewed by the IRS as a reason not to release them.
  • His undocumented Polish workers in 1980 that he barely paid for work, and now campaigning against undocumented workers because he's a hypocritical liar.
  • Marital rape.
  • Breaking casino rules in New Jersey and New York.
  • Antitrust violations in Atlantic City.
  • His refusal to pay contractors for their work.
  • The Trump foundation never making donations, even after he's said that he has.
And that's all (and much more) before he was elected... now that's he's president, he's:

  • Selling off national park land to drill for oil.
  • Lied to the American people, saying that Mexico is going to pay for "the wall".
  • Told the GOP to "go nuclear" and change the confirmation process for a supreme court justice nominee.
  • Threatened to invade Mexico for literally no reason whatsoever.
  • Had Sean Spicer reveal the name of a fallen Navy SEAL in a press conference.
  • Is working to nullify the Stream Protection Rule regarding pollution from coal mines.
  • Worked with the GOP to change committee rules to approve two of his nominations without any democrats voting.
  • Imposed a "Muslim ban" on countries in the Middle East, EXCEPT for those that he has business connections with.
  • Has made an oil executive billionaire the Secretary of State
  • Has nominated a billionaire as the head of education only because she's donated $200 million to his campaign.
And so much more. And yes, while I realize that *some* of these aren't technically crimes, they're cause for concern. But hey, call me a snowflake, say some nonsense about a safe space, and go on thinking you're right about everything, all while ignoring what's really happening in the world.
[doublepost=1486069109][/doublepost]

They said the same thing about Hitler... then when he rose to power, there was a second world war.

There's a reason why some things aren't just passed off as "freedom of speech".

lol! Imagine the sugar coated list we could make about you by asking a few of your friends and enemies what you're like. I bet it would be a war and peace sized bullet point presentation.

is the new MacMini or MacPro the next Tim Cook announcement ?

no. a BLM award together with Jack Dorsey

"I may not agree with what you say but I will defend to the death your right to say it". I guess the left only believes this when they are feeling oppressed. When they hear things they don't like it becomes " I may not agree with what you say, and when you try to say it I will protest and limit your 1st amendment right to free speech. Then we will start fires and call anyone racist who tries to defend the constitution."

"the left". There is an "us" and a "them".

But there isn't. You still live here. I still live here. You love this country and I do too. You want a job, and a good education, and a healthy economy, and opportunity. I do too.

I haven't said how I voted. I haven't said who I love or hate. But I know we're both going to be here to share in the success or failure. Our children will inherit the success or failure.

We need to stop falling for the "us" and "them". That's an illusion.

A couple of letters? Seriously? Are you really that ignorant with respect to Cook's stance, commitment, and actions taken with respect to the social and environmental issues listed up above?

Don't taxes pay for many of our social and enviromental issues? Talk is cheap, supporting initiatives is another thing .

Freedom of Speech is a protection against the government retaliating or censoring what it's people say. Last I checked, no one has died fighting to say whatever they want on a privately owned tech forum and agree to abide by its rules or be banned. I never said my opinion was more valid... but I only mentioned the 100 post threshold since thats what it currently is set to for whatever reason.

So wrong and an extremely narrow minded opinion of freedom of speech. If the Nazis won you wouldn't be on this site allowed to chat openly and freely about political issues or Macs or anything else. China still heavily sensors its internet.

This is an open 'public' forum. It is an expression of freedom of speech.

Are you really saying TC has not been actively supporting and engaging in any initiatives?

Are you really saying TC has not been actively supporting and engaging in any initiatives?

I'm saying talk is cheap. And the tax avoidance could really help fund these initiatives

Doing a quick google search for "Tim Cook funds, funding for fundraiser " just keeps coming back with him helping his mate Hilary Clinton , for a guy who says a lot, I'm seeing little action. As with politician BS while sounding great means little ...

wonder if this means I'll get a chance to meet Tim since I generally get invited to most events at the Newseum. Very nice spot for events :)
