Uh, I believe it was you only in slightly different words. As I said and I quote: "I don't need Apple wasting engineering resources coding software that already exist".

And I replied, why not? With your thinking the world will remain in a Microsoft monopolized world. That's an ignorant response IMO and it does nothing more than stifle innovation.

I'm going to close this and I will no longer respond no matter what you or anyone says because I know who and what I am dealing with.

I'd still like to respond to say....

That's exactly it and exactly what I said. And then you went and took the statement out of context to mean some ludicrous thought that I think Apple shouldn't make anymore software for anything.

This was in response to people seeing iMacs on the manufacturing line running Windows. My reply was about iMacs running Windows on the assembly line.

Clearly you needed more help understanding that.

Thrice the salary for the workers, thrice the quality of life, thrice the quality, and thrice the average age of the workers.

Let's face it, having 12 year-olds work for 15¢ an hour near factories that spill toxic chemicals into rivers and spew toxic fumes into downwind major cities is not a sustainable way of doing things. Cheap, fast, good...pick two.
I agree with you!
Wish the UK would bring more manufacturing back from overseas.

If anything to help future generations - not sell them down the river to the highest bidder.
Sell us to the commie enemy.

They are just assembled in the US. All the components are still manufactured in China.
Not all the parts are from china.

Let's be honest, this made in America is really just a small PR exercise.

It could be - like the miserably failed Moto X "made in USA" stunt, although I think they've made a good pick with having the Mac Pro assembled in the US, since it's relatively low volume.

Surprised to see Tim Cook on the factory floor without a hard hat. Usually any photo opportunity shots with a high level official at a factory of any sort require a de rigueur hardhat, even if it is a factory that hand packages marshmallows into cotton wool.

Wow, I hope you and your thumb-uppers don't represent what our schools are pumping out these days.

The drive is a little over a hour. I have done it many times when I lived in the Austin area.

Good to see Tim out pressing the flesh. Wonder if he met Austin brass to discuss why nMP deliveries were so bad?

You'll be glad to know I didn't come from "our schools."

My apologies though -- lots of people have said that the drive isn't three hours -- it's just that the last time I went there that's what it took.

That said there may have been construction, or what not. It's been a good fee years since that trip.

I'd edit the original comment but that would look cowardly.

Must be pretty stressful to have the CEO watch over you while you serve an Apple Care customer. I would hate to be the guy who makes a mistake.

Tim wouldn't have visited Fox-con in any way.. but he can do it just because its "an American company" ?

ahaha...

You are home, running with the bulls..

It will be a welcome visit more often, only because its U.S.

I like it

"Made in USA":

Thrice as long to manufacture thrice the MSRP. :apple:

The MSRP of Mac Pro's seem to be on target, though yes the production rate does look a bit poor. They should eventually get it up to speed though. Wouldn't be surprised if they shipped more back to the US - I'm sure Apple is getting tired of Chinese leaks.

Firstly that's not true, in 2012 they pushed wages up to $1.50/hr, secondly how is taking jobs away from them going to help them? People need jobs to get out of poverty. And having them manufacture is a few steps up on the skill levels than subsistence farming. Yes it's not ideal, but it's an improvement.

Would his mean that everything could be "Made in the USA"

I would like iMac's made in the USA.

however, apart from price, how exactly is the Mac Pro being made in the USAany better than at Fox-con ?

It would have been fun to be the person who called AppleCare and got Tim Cook and Eddy Cue on the line!

You're post shows so much ignorance, Seriously. With that type of attitude things will remain the same. Is that what you want, to be monopolized by Microsoft? It's not like Macs are just a hobby. That's exactly what you're suggesting.
There's absolutely nothing about Windows in general that can only do that type of work. It's lazies that refused to create and consumers with your type of thinking that will keep everything the way it is. Very poor.

I'm guessing it's ok in the areas where Apple dominates?

Apple deliberately keeps lot of machines running xp and then uses that number to take a dig at Microsoft in Keynote presentations. 9 out of 10 mac are using latest os while only 1 out of 10 pc's are using latest OS from microsoft. :D

Why do you think he wouldn't visit a Foxconn factory?

I like "made in the USA" initiative. Many technology firms invested thrilions of dollars in China in the last decades providing better life for the people who lives there, and thats a good thing. Imagine having country like China with poberty like Somalia, Afganistan... It would be a horrible world to live in, both for China and rest of the world. However, since China is now the biggest economy in the world, so they must find a way to make their lives without or less western money and must start to compete on quality and quantities, not only on low workforce basis. Id be happy to pay 100$ more for my iProduct knowing its was produced with cleaner and more sustainable manufacturing process providing fair wages to the workers.
