Why would a CEO of a huge company be the one to introduce a product? Their job is to run the company, not to be a mascot and salesmen.

Don't most companies just have marketing execs do these type of events?

I don't see how having Steve doing the keynote could be a bad thing if he is feeling up for it. I don't think that will undermine Cooks appeal as CEO, I don't think apple wants another person to be so closely connected to the company that if he leaves their stock will drop. Cook is a good business guy but he doesn't have to be the salesmen and visionary that Jobs is, he can hire other people to help with those roles.

Really Apple could hire anyone to do the keynotes Jobs, Woz, Schiller, pee wee hermen whoever.

What satisfaction and delight this would bring to Apples loyal customers, investors, fellow employees and I think even Tim Cook.
For those that believe that this would be undermining Tim Cooks authority don't even think twice about it, Steve Jobs knows his place and would never undermine the authority of Cook.

It would be awesome for this to happen, and frankly, isn't that far fetched. I think it just depends on whether or not Steve is up to it (health-wise).

I still have much for respect for jobs.

Who cares if Jobs undermine Cook and presents the event,

Jobs is still Apple's iconic man.

If Steve Jobs comes out in the shape he's in, it will be in a wheelchair. It will ruin the mood of the Keynote and all anyone will be talking about for weeks is how much worse Steve looks, not about the new iPhone. This is not what Apple wants. They moved him out of the lime-light for a reason.

Now, I do think they need to get someone with more charisma than Tim Cooke to do the Keynotes though. This guy has a snooze factor of about 9.5.

I do really think this will be Steve's last keynote if he is there. It's interesting to go back and look at the pictures of him since Apple started long ago. It's sad to watch how unhealthy he looks now.

I think maybe they could spread the keynote out over a few people, but the main figure should be Cook. I feel Apple needs to show the public that he is the strong figure they have chosen to take the helm, and what better way than to put him in charge of the keynote for the public to see.

EDIT: I do agree that Jobs should definitely not be the one doing the keynote.

-New scenario Apple event-

Tim Cook:"Oke folks I've got One more thing, Mr. Steve Jobs"

Steve Jobs:"Thanks everyone, you you are to kind, Oke...every one of you now would think I would reveal the iPhone 5. Yeah I know, sorry but I have One more other thing. "Ladies and gentleman I present you Mr. Yoon-Woo Lee, give him a big Apple applaus"(the CEO of Samsung enters the stage with handcufs and a big red Apple in his mouth.

Steve Jobs: (takes the Apple out of his mouth and uncuffs him)
"Well Yoon-Woo I heard you have One more thing to say

Yoon-Woo Lee:"ehh that's light, Ladies and gentleman, I give you the iPhone 5!

He resigned as CEO. He is still Chairman of the Board, Director, and Employee of Apple. No issues with him bring involve in keynotes. It isn't like he is leaving Apple completely - he is changing roles.

"Employee of Apple"!
Most often, board members are not employees. Except for CEO and/or president.

So he's still an employee is interesting. I wonder if he still makes a $1?

Completely agree

Hopefully Apple has an opening for such a role, i'd gladly apply!

Steve will do the keynote I think

I have felt for a while that the delay in the unveiling of the iPhone 5 has been that they are waiting for Steve's health to improve before announcing it, if he is undergoing a course of chemo ATM for example he is not well enough for the keynote but when there is a break in his health they will announce the iPhone 5 with Steve doing the keynote and be lead news headline all over the world

99.9% sure steve will do the keynote

I'm afraid you haven't been keeping up with how much his health has deteriorated in the last 6 months. The poor man can barely walk on his own. And is getting worse, not better.

He is probably undergoing chemo or radiotherapy, that weakens people considerably, look how gaunt and weak Michael Douglas was when he was undergoing it so Jobs' appearance is consistent with that, I think Apple are waiting on the iPhone 5 launch to coincide with Steve finishing his treatment so he is well enough to do the keynote.

Holding off would not cost them sales as Steve's keynote and the resulting publicity would sell more iPhone 5's than if Phil Schiller launched it tonight

Apple isn't going to bring out a dying cancer ridden Steve Jobs regardless of what those rose colored glasses tell you.

I could see the following scenario, though: Show opens up and on the big screen, Steve Jobs live feed from his living room where they can show him from the shoulders up. Huge applause as the crowd sees him. He gives a short introduction and then introduces/hands off the Keynote to Tim Cook and thanks everyone for all their love and support.

I don't think Cook would do the keynote, he is a good businessman but is a very poor orator so if anyone did it instead of Steve it would be Phil or Jonny but I still think there will be a big surprise and Steve will do it even if it is for a shorter period than usual before handing over to Phil

In Feb the National Enquirer published pics of Jobs haggard and gaunt and saying he has 6 weeks left, 6 weeks later he gave a brilliant performance launching the iPad 2, I would not bet my house on Steve doing the keynote but I think it will happen

I want Steve to at least introduce one more Mac, Preferably a new iMac, so he would return to Apple with the iMac and leave Apple with the iMac.:D:apple::D

Yes, Steve Jobs is still an Apple employee. That was mentioned in the letters that were respectively put out by Steve and by a representative of the board of directors on the day he announced his resignation as CEO.

For that matter, Steve Wozniak is still on the books as an Apple employee, despite the fact that he hasn't had any direct role in the company for many years.

If we look at the history from other high profile companies, we see that Steve Ballmer is the (not so loveable) face of Microsoft, and he is present at most public presentations. But its Chairman of the Board, Bill Gates, is still very much the more identifiable personality, and he does occasionally still give personal appearances on behalf of the company.

Haha, as childish as your post seemed, I must say, that's the kind of thing that would make me smile. I mean really, I'd have a big grin on my face!

If it would make you smile, why did you feel the need to call it childish...

Tim Cook needs to be seen as taking the reigns. For that reason I doubt Steve will be there. No doubt his name will be brought up and something will be said about him, but I don't think he will be on screen or their in person. Keynotes are a CEO's job, Jobs isn't CEO anymore.

Still a chance it could happen. The red 1 is the one more thing section I hope. If it will happen, that Townhall is going to explode big time.

Steve is in no fit state at the moment. With the greatest of respect, his health is far more important than any bloody phone or AAPL stock
