Yep. I’m officially out. My Ti will arrive on Wednesday and I was still thinking about trying it out. But instead I’ll just roll with the Hermès SS that’ll be here on Tuesday.

My last 2 AWs were SS and I never had any major issues with wear. Figured I’d try something different this year, but it sounds like the Ti just isn’t for me. If it scratches this easily from regular day-to-day stuff, that thing will be destroyed after a few weeks at my job.

It sure is damn pretty though! Makes it tough to have to choose something else!

Yikes. This reviewer got scratches on his Titanium on day 1 when taking photos:

One question that remains is how the titanium will age: the first thing I did when receiving this watch was put it on next to my stainless steel Series 4, for a comparison. When I took them off, I noticed that just a few minutes of occasional contact from being next to the crown of the steel watch had made some light marks on the case.

There are light scuff marks just above the top speaker hole, and down and right from the bottom. Honestly, probably no one other than me will notice these, but I still know they're there…

@wileycoyote probably just another fluke, right ? 🙂

I got Titanium today for 14 day trial while my Hermes arrives so I can decide which to keep. The Titanium is so much lighter and comfortable than steel but I think I can tolerate a scuffed up SS (my S4 looks like it’s been on some adventures) more than the Titanium
I have my SBT S5, but considering how my SBSS S4 remained pristine for a year I’m considering my options. Weight of the SBSS was never an issue for me, even when running.

The whole reason I bought the SBSS S4 was that I hated how I’d end up scuffing the aluminum on my prior watches. If the SBT won’t hold up, there’s no point in it for me. Each to their own but I don’t give a —— what kind of watch other people think I have.

so you’re happy with the space black stainless ?

I’m picking up a series 5 this week. Obviously not getting the titanium now , and was contemplating between the black and gold stainless. It’s been a tough decision.

also, you would say the stainless is definicely worth it over the aluminum durability wise right ?

Yes, I was very happy with my space black stainless. I was trying the titanium is something a little different.

Asked for stainless versus aluminum, I get cellular for either, so only a $220 difference. That has been worth it to me to not see dings every time I looked at my watch. I am a bit of a klutz at times, and sometimes hit doorways with my watch. 😎

Welp, I can also attest to seeing scratches on the Apple Store Demo models. This was 5 hours after opening on day one. I wasn't going to order one until I saw the comparison between Ti and Alu (I really hate the reflectiveness of the SS and I'm not prepared to hand brush it in fear of ruining it)

I'm glad I waited now...

Hmmm... I may be returning mine... I was hoping the Black Titanium would be immune.

the speed and severity of scratches being seen here on titanium and now even the DLC coated space black titanium models, especially considering how few of them are out there compared to aluminum and stainless models is deeply, deeply concerning.

The amount of reports of scratches are worrying. I have a Ti coming in on Monday. Looking at the marks on my current Alu after two years there’s no way a Ti will hold up if it’s this delicate. I bang it into stuff all the time. Might have to return it for something else. Too bad as it looks absolutely amazing.

Went ahead and bought the Titanium today, got one of the last models in the store for a walk-in purchase (and unfortunately it is true they're only stocked in flagship stores! alternative is, order it online and wait a couple of months for it to ship to your house).

As for which band that came with it, I opted for the Alaskan Blue Sports loop.

First impressions:

Ok I definitely see a clear difference from Stainless Steel. It's much more 'sharp' whereas Stainless Steel is much more glossy/shiny. It does look noticeably closer to Aluminium than the Stainless.

I like the reduced weight on the wrist, that really is great.

In regards to bands - haven't yet tried on a Stainless Steel band on it, the exclusive Light Grey Sport Band that comes with the Watch (in addition to one of your choice from the store) really is quite nice. It looks very similar to the Pebble Sport band from a couple years back. However, I immediately notice trying on the Cornflower Sport Band I recently got, that one doesn't go as well with Titanium as it does with Stainless and I'm reminded one clear advantage of Stainless is that it looks good with almost anything.

No scratches yet.. Will keep a close eye on it.

Shipping dates have improved, they now say October 2-October 3 delivery

Guess i‘ll stick with SS SB. After one year of daily use and using it in the gym there is still not a single scratch on it.

You showered wearing the watch? Not worried about getting soap, shampoo, and other stuff on it? And slept wearing it? When do you charge it? Not judging, just curious lol

All my Apple watches have been SS. I banged them on everything from concrete to golf clubs. Maybe once a year I polish it with a cape cod cloth and my series 3 still looks great. I was looking for a change and happen to Really like how the titanium looks. I see it as a 14 day trial to decide if I keep it. Today will be the first full day of typical use. BTW The brushed SS bracelet in that pic I posted, has been worn since the original Apple Watch.

I have read that you can get the scratches out Of Titanium bracelets with a pencil eraser. Has anyone tried that?

please would the titanium owners keep us updated on how their watches are looking with daily wear?

Sure thing. Will be wearing it today while mowing the lawn, doing yard work and working on the pool. Will post tonight how it holds up after day 1 of daily wear.

Umm, let’s be clear.

Anything will scratch. Aluminum, SS, Ti, it will all scratch. The question is how much force is required to do so. That is the only question here.

My point is there is very little to no data yet, from actual owners. Not reviewers looking for clickbait, not people seeing watches at Apple stores that may have intentionally been damaged - actual owners. And yes, I am skeptical that the earlier posted damage just materialized all by itself, lol.

Yep, have always showered with my Apple watches. I'm an ER doctor, it would be disgusting to wear this thing at home after working and not thoroughly clean it. i track my sleep with Autosleep. I generally charge it for 1-2 hours after i wake up, while i'm having coffee and that kind of thing. Been doing this for years.

Going to hardwire a dashcam in my car tomorrow. i'm sure i'll be banging the watch all over the place.

I believe the watch will be fine. A lot of hysteria on here with just a couple of reports. People already canceling orders for watches they haven't even received yet. People need to relax a bit.

Have been wearing mine for two day, and unfortunately it’s true the watch scuffs extremely easy. I already have multiple on both sides and I’m extremely careful with my gadgets. I’m torn if I should exchange it for a SS one as I can buff out scratches on that one easily.

This, I have owned every Apple Watch since series 0 and have always showered with them. That’s why I prefer my link bands, they clean up real good.

Haha awesome... I’m a Psychiatrist, so my job isn’t quite as filthy as yours. At least not on the outpatient side. If I was still doing inpatient psych, I might do the same though. :)
