I took some other photos from a different angle. They aren’t deep scratches. It seems like something on the coating? It’s hard to explain/show in photos.
Take It to the Apple Store and let us know what they say as it does look like the coating.

They had no idea. They said I could return it for refund and rebuy another watch since they can’t do exchanges. I posted it on Twitter and it seems like it’s not an isolated issue.

Thanks- this is a little worrying. I will keep looking here for others experience and if it is not isolated I will return mine within the 14 days as I don't want to have the problem in future. I would go back to the SS as this was great for me in the past.

I cancelled my Ti order and switched to ceramic... good luck guys! Hopefully the scratch situation is overstated and/or not widespread. Otherwise, I guess you can think of it as “patina” that adds character...

This is hilarious, one clearly maimed or defective watch and everyone is up in arms.

I am sorry but that doesn’t happen from normal wear and tear. 1.5 days now on my Ti, no scratches:)

When I took it to the store I checked the display models (under glass) and both had some kind of abrasion marks on them. You don’t have to believe me but I am 100% sure that I haven’t hit it or otherwise rubbed it against something that would cause this. Maybe there is just a defective batch? But other people are reporting the same thing.

In all fairness that titanium looks awful. I realize it’s the new style so people have to get it to be noticed. I say get the Ceramic. It’s new, virtually not scratchable, and classic Apple white.

Who? I have only seen your pics. It’s just a little hard to believe that something like that would just materialize on your watch:)

I can picture this maybe being an issue on the silver titanium but the DLC on the black titanium shouldn’t be an issue at all.

We’re just trying to understand what happened.

Metal doesn’t get messed up all by itself. Either something was next to it and caused wear, or it banged into something. Or it came out of the box like that.

What do you suppose caused it?

So they only carry the edition watches at Flagship stores.. wtf Apple.

Why would I need to travel 45 minutes just to buy this watch? We have one in Scottsdale but I hate going to that store as nice as it is. I have a store in Gilbert 5 mins from home
Don't bother going. I know which store that is, I went there today and they only had them to try on, they had none in stock for sale.

The only thing I can think of is that the watch rattling while on the Watch charging dock caused the abrasions.

Goes pretty good with my brushed SS band.

Now y'all got me worried. I got my TI on Friday but haven't set it up or worn it yet. I just took it out of the box and looked at it for a bit. If this thing is gonna scratch like crazy I'll probably return it for a SS.

I can picture this maybe being an issue on the silver titanium but the DLC on the black titanium shouldn’t be an issue at all.

that perhaps is true because the DLC on the Space Black Stainless is like a miracle, after a full year of wear I don't have a mark. the problem of course is that Space Black Titanium looks nearly identical to Space Gray Aluminum... I expect at Edition prices to have a color / look that is very unique and frankly the only person who will ever know it isn't the Space Gray Aluminum is the wearer themselves who perhaps can see the slight brushed texture and hint of extra glint off the material in some lights. To each their own.

Let’s clear up a couple of things for those of you that aren’t aware:

- Titanium will absolutely scratch (although not sure about the DB version), as we have seen, and it won’t require much to do it. Ti is softer than stainless steel and only difference is that the brushed finish will help it appear more durable than the SS models, but in reality it’s less durable.

- DO NOT attempt to polish it. Someone else said it doesn’t polish, which is wrong. Ti can absolutely polish to a smoother finish and you’ll end up ruining your watch. If you do anything, you can a professional brush the finish to hide scratches. Don’t attempt if you haven’t done this.

This is definitely concerning. Mine was delayed again, so I won't see it until Monday, I hope. I don't baby my watches at all and SS models have held up incredible well, guess that might not be the case with Titanium, guess we will see soon, but not looking promising.

Yikes. This reviewer got scratches on his Titanium on day 1 when taking photos:

One question that remains is how the titanium will age: the first thing I did when receiving this watch was put it on next to my stainless steel Series 4, for a comparison. When I took them off, I noticed that just a few minutes of occasional contact from being next to the crown of the steel watch had made some light marks on the case.

There are light scuff marks just above the top speaker hole, and down and right from the bottom. Honestly, probably no one other than me will notice these, but I still know they're there…

Well that’s disappointing.

Well that’s disappointing.

I got Titanium today for 14 day trial while my Hermes arrives so I can decide which to keep. The Titanium is so much lighter and comfortable than steel but I think I can tolerate a scuffed up SS (my S4 looks like it’s been on some adventures) more than the Titanium
