I wrestled with this myself. It’s the reason I’ve always bought SGAL. The resale on the “fancy’ materials was always horrible. I don’t need sapphire since I don’t scratch ion-X, didn’t need the extra warranty since I trade every year (since S0 no less), I buy knock-off or NoS bands from ebay, etc.

But...I’m a sucker for natural Titanium, haha!! And I’m loving this watch. It just brings a smile to my face whenever I interact with it.

I know for a fact that I’ll be buying the AWS6, along with the 2020 iPhone Pro and the new AirPods. If they drop Ti next year, I’m sure I’ll go back to Aluminium. But for THIS year, I’m stoked haha!!

... and that is what really counts, isn't it?

I went with SBSS for my S4 simply because I disliked seeing the display scuffs and casing dings I managed to put into my SGAL S2 and S3 watches. (and that was even with putting on a TPU case before DIY projects) Of course by then I had no fantasies of ever seeing the added cost come back to me; I considered it the price of having the greater durability _I_ apparently need.

I had and returned a SBTi. I have no regrets switching back to SBSS.

My thoughts - which apply only to me, and may not apply to others:

Extra "exclusive" sport band added no value for me as I didn't care for the color. Since I wouldn't have bought the band on its own, its inclusion conveyed no value to offset the price.

Extra year of warranty might be worthwhile if I had a realistic expectation of retaining the S5 for more than a year. Given the S5 has no processing power bump and is the initial foray into always-on-display, I'd wager the S6 will pique my interest. Resale values are pennies, with effectively zero recovery of the extra cost of the non-aluminum models. Perhaps the extra warranty might provide some additional resale, but I doubt it would be more than a small fraction of the price difference.

I agree Deeddawg with your comment totally.
Because of no spec bump, I feel next years will be a big enough jump to want to buy it. They may even perfect their titanium material even more.
The series 5 feels like a stopgap.

Exactly why I’m waiting for next year. Still happy with my SBSS series 4.

You guys can add me to the list of Ti casualties. A little over a week with the regular Ti, I have not hit anything in that time and it somehow got some weird scratches on the top part of it. The things it has come in contact with are my watch stand (the apple doughnut one) and a jacket (cloth, no metal parts on the sleeve).

I think it looks amazing and better than my SS, but that's enough for me to be out. I don't want to imagine what happens if I actually smack into a door knob or something. Not judging anyone who wants to keep theirs! Just sharing my experience.

I’ve had my Ti for 5 days now, no weird scratches or battery life problems to report. I have walkie-talkie disabled because I don’t use it, as well as background app refresh. Using it with a nike anthracite black band.

im loving my Ti watch that I’ve had for the past 2 days but these posts are getting me a bit worried...

I've been wearing my regular Ti for a few days now. Just noticed a very, very small scratch at the bottom of the watch above where the band slides in.

They had a SBTi at my local Apple store, so picked it up today. Not sure which one I'll keep, but need to decide by tomorrow.

Almost a week with mine. Swimming, running, etc. I never baby my Apple Watches (probably because I grew up with G-Shocks haha!!). No scratches in sight.

I really like the natural Ti. I’m thinking a Hermès sport band (knock off of course haha!!) would look awesome.

So is the exclusive watch color different between the two titaniums? My natural Ti has a white face, but I saw a video that looked like the SBTi had a gray face.

Had my TI a week now. No scratches yet

haha yeah the only thing with the Hermes is that the lugs are polished SS I think?

Def looks amazing :D
I'm still debating if I want to swap mine to the SBSS or the SS before my return window ends... just worried about the scratching aspect of the Ti and not being able to polish it like the SS
You’re in same place as me. Apart from that I have the SBSS as well. One of which will be gong back. I’ve told myself I have this weekend to make a choice 👍

Another photo of the standard titanium. The way it reflects ambient light in its sheen, especially in the evening, is quite pleasing. Really enjoy looking at this thing. I do have one small scuff on one corner that happened after 24 hrs of delivery but that is to be expected and does not bother me at all. It is to be expected. I’m 51 and have learned over time to accept these things as badges of honour, so to speak. I understand that the casing will patina over time and that’s the beauty of this material, so I’m leaving all wounds intact.
I’ve had several smartwatches including Suunto, Garmin, Tic Watch and a Fitbit but this is my first AW, a watch I was never a fan of until it dropped in titanium with an AOD. I’ve been wearing a gold SS S5 for the past five days to try out. SS is a beautiful, resilient material but the weighting when compared to the titanium was quite noticeable after switching over. The weighting on the Ti is near perfect. Really looking forward to my black link bracelet arriving today which I think will complement the white titanium.

I think the S5 should tide me over until something interesting drops. Sure, we’ll most likely soon see things like built-in sleep tracking, a micro LED display, a new chip, longer battery life or a new sensor but I think I’m just going to hold onto this and wait until until something compelling comes along with a slimmer case design and some new bells and whistles.

Overall, I’m very happy with this purchase. If any of you want some pics of the white titanium with a black link bracelet please let em know and I’ll try and snap some pics this wknd.

If you got yours from apple.com on launch day today is the last day to initiate a return and they will give you until Oct 18 to return it so pretty much another 2 weeks to decide :)

So after a week... Had to return the natural Ti. Scratched up like no tmr randomly within one day. Sticking to SBTi even though i like the natural Ti more.

If I were to opt for an Apple Watch without the DLC coating, it would actually be the stainless, because that way you can still remove the scratches with a Cape Cod polishing cloth. But in your case, (as I also don’t want to see scratches), the space black with the DLC the coating is the only way to go. (Unless of course, you decide to use one of those hideous bumpers that surrounds the watch.)

I personally don't like the look of the Titanium, but I appreciate Apple adding new case materials. Make it feel more like a real watch to me. I typically do Hermes, but went with Ceramic this year (still unsure of that decision).

Anyway, based on feedback in this thread if you are the type where scratches bother you (and we all know if we are that type - I am haha) you probably need to opt for Stainless or Ceramic.
