Torn between SB SS vs Titanium black.

Upgrading from SB SS Series 2.

I love the glossy nature of the SS. Weight isn't a factor to me.

Torn between the SBT and SBSS myself. I’ve had SS for the past two years. Didn’t expect to upgrade to Series 5, but it has gotten to me again this year. Definitely want a Space Black this time around.

I think I'm going to stick with my S4 for this year, but I would opt for SS or SBSS if I were purchasing. Titanium is really nice, but I like my watch to have a bit of glossy bling to it.

Sadly the Dutch telecom providers don't support the e-sim, T-Mobile is making an attempt. So we in the Netherlands can't choose between the watch, edition or the hermes version, we only have the standard Nike and Watch edition all without cellular.

Love the Titanium version.

Titanium is lighter than steel and usually stronger than consumer steels. It's also very corrosion resistant.

What I'm curious about is the finish. I hope it looks like brushed steel to go with my link bracelet.
Don't know if this may be true for Apple watch, but for Panerai watches their Titanium watches were less scratch resistant than SS, although much lighter.
I would not purchase a titanium Apple watch until tested & proven.

Hodinkee's shots are great, but we really need alu, ti and ss, all in the one photo so the light is the same in the one shot.

Initially I thought the ti silver was aluminium in some videos I'd seen which worried me, thought maybe it was a bit cheap looking. Having a better look at it now I'm thinking it's quite nice and with some subtle interesting hue bands it's going to be good for a lot of people.

Couldn't see myself buying ti silver though, just don't think it distinguishes itself enough from alu to be worth it. Will see though as more pictures of it emerge.

Black ti version is maybe a richer looking option, though unsure again. Either way, there's definitely no wow factor here for the price. It's almost a process of convincing myself I like them.

Stainless steel looks class in both colours to me. Huge upgrade aesthetically over aluminium.

In iJustines videos the silver TT looks the best. In the photos above the black TT looks better

I have a Titanium Omega and love it for the weight and how the watch never feels "cold"
Titanium always feels like skin temp when you put it on.
Seiko puts a nice coating on their Titanium watches that make them much more scratch resistant vs SS. My Omega also is wearing better than my other SS watches...

Same here. 46.5mm Planet Ocean. It’s a giant watch, but the weight makes it very wearable. For those considering the Ti Apple Watch, it’s a little like steel but a darker hue. I think the brushes finish will look really good.

Went with space black titanium, 44 mm with space black milanese loop.

I never liked how the SS space black was so shiny and reflective. It made the 'black' look more 'grey' in the sun or in any brightly lit room.

The brushed titanium looks a little too close to the space grey aluminum color, although i do like the textured look of it.

The space black titanium is a matte finish. Been waiting years for that!

Hodinkee has some nice close up shots. The rest of the sites are just regurgitating specs.

I’m also torn between the two. Wondering if the titanium finish will look good with the Hermes single tour and the stainless link bracelet

Thanks for posting this.

So the SBT is a brushed/matte black finish. Not sure what I think - I've really liked the glossy SBSS.

Do we know when they'll have units on display in the stores?

If the titanium were also glossy, it would really be no different than the SS space black

what will be the better/more popular option? Isn't titanium heavy? (probably a dumb question)

I know I'm a Debbie downer, but I say neither. Unless money is no issue. To me, the AW is a functional piece of tech and not a fashion accessory. Those that spent 10K+ on the Series 0 gold, I gotta feel sorry for. I had a SS, returned it for an aluminum as I knew my watch would be outdated in a few years. My daily is an AW for its functionality. If I need to fancy myself up for an event I'll wear my TAG or Omega.

As always, it just comes down to what you can afford/what you value. There's no 'wrong' answer.

Think the point is people want things to be functional and good looking at the same time and are sick of the endless false either/or game compromises we consistently have to make, and that so many people sadly still buy into.

Companies can make amazing high end tech, and that is where the future is.

The greatest advantage here is for men. There is less guilt around having a good looking bit of tech on the wrist than there is when buying a premium timepiece. Even bankers are starting to baulk at the thought of an expensive status symbol like a Rolex on their wrist. It's plainly a status play, whereas a SS Apple Watch is good looking but functional. Bit pricey, but nothing anyone with a national average paid job couldn't afford. Not quite the case with a Patek or whatever.

I get your sentiment. But there is something to be said about a well made timepiece in high end materials. They are heirlooms and won't be outdated in a few years. My Omega was passed down to me, and it's beautiful. Apple Watches, like I said, if you have the money to burn, do it.. Apple will never make a polished aluminum, or it'd cannibalize their SS sales.

What is happening to the case around the crown? It looks like it has been scuffed up. :(

Anyone find anything on relative weights between the two?

Apple site seems to claim same case weights of 39.8g / 47.8g for the 40 & 44mm watches whether choosing stainless or titanium?

That is my question as well. It appears from the Apple web site info that the DLC coating on the titanium results in the same weight as stainless.
